20200901 Regular City Council Meeting - Packet (5) September 1,2020 Item Public Comment J. Lopez Dolson, Sandra Subject: FW: September 1, 2020 City Council Meeting Public Comment (Non-Agenda General Comment)) 8/31/2020 5:20:16 PM From:Jaime Lopez [mailto:jaimeilo@usc.edu] Sent: Monday, August 31, 2020 4:47 PM To: publiccomment<publiccomment@ci.vernon.ca.us> Subject: September 1, 2020 City Council Meeting Public Comment (Non-Agenda General Comment)) Dear City of Vernon, I've tried calling repeatedly since last week to inquire about non-agenda public comments. I hope this email will be enough to be read at tomorrow's meeting. Thank you. Good morning, I'd like to know where the city council members in the 40th congressional district stand in terms of Black Lives Matter. I understand that the council may have previously made comments acknowledging racial injustice and that some may have made references to Black Lives Matter in previous meetings. I'd like to ask each member of the council today, including the city manager, whether or not you can each publicly state whether you support the Black Lives Matter movement or not. I understand you don't have to answer non-agenda items, but I also know that the Brown Act doesn't prohibit you from expressing an opinion of solidarity. I'd like to also ask you all to indicate what you have read, preferably a book, that would indicate to your residents that you know what Black Lives Matter is about. Thank you.
