19150803 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes .;~-c~ REGULAR MEETING. A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of VernonJ Oounty of Los Angeles} and State of California, was held on the 3rd day of August , 1915, at 2 0' clock P. M. of sa.id da.y at the regular meeting place of said Board in said city of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held. There were present at such meeting Trustees, Leonis, Kniffin and Furlong. There were absent from .such meeting Trustee, Stevens and Durbin. President Trustee Furlong presiding. The minutes of the meeting held on 1915 , July 20th, were: read and approved. A representive of the Security CmnstructioD Company appeared before the Board and made the complaint regarding the conditi~n of the crossing at 38th and Alameda Streets. The Board agreed to take the matter up with the Southern Pacidic Company, and have them put the crossing in good condition. Trustee Leonis moved;that the license for lunch and sandwich wagons shall be $5.00 for outsiders and non-residents of the City of Vernon and $2.00 for persons living in the City; and that it shall be necessary for any person desiring to operate a lunch and sandwibh . wagon in the City of Vernon, to procure a permit therefor from the Board of Trustees of said City. Trustee Leonis presented three deeds conveying property to the City of Vernon for highway purposes as follows, to-wit:- One from the Union Iron Works of Los Angeles, for the following described property situate in the County of Los Angeles, stateoo~ California. The Westerly thirty and five hundredths (30.05) feet of Tract No. 2493, as per map recorded in Book 25, Page 79 of Maps, Records of said Los Angeles County, more particularly described as follows: Beginning at the Northwest corner of said Traet No. 2493, thence North 890 25' 30" East, thirty and five hund~.d.ths (30.05) feet to a point, thence South 30 56' East ninety-eight and eiihty-three hundred- ths (98.83) feet to a point, thence Northerly on a curve concave to the Northeast having a radius O~ two hundred seventy-eight and th~rty- four )undredths (278.34) feet, to the pOint of beginning. -1- G~l ;1' \ Another from the L. Commencing at the Northwest corner of Lot "A", Tract No. 2493, as per map recorded in Book 25, page ?9.of Mpps, records of Los Angeles County, California; thence North 30 56' West three hundred six and fifty-two hundredths (306.52) feet to a point; thence North 890 18' 30" East thirty and five one hundredths (30.05) feet to a point; thence South 30 56' East three hundred six and fifty-eight hundredths (306.58) feet to a point; thence South 890 25' 30" West thirty and five one hundredths (30.05) feet to the place of beginning. The said deeds were accepted by the Board and the Clerk was instructed to record the same. The following application was received from Walery Slawoszewski, to conducj a retail liquor business at 5220 Santa Fe Avenue, said application being in wrods and figures as follows, to-wit:- -APPLICATION FOR FAMILY LIQUOR LICENSE". Sirs:- I, Walery Slawoszewski, hereby apply for Family liquor license to sell liquors on the premises now located at 5220 Santa Fe Avenue, on Lot 13, Block 19, of Huntington Park Extension No.1, City of Vernon, California. We, the undersigned, property owners, residing and conducting business in the City of Vernon and in the neighborhood of the appli- cant above mentioned, do hereby give our consent and petition your honorable body to issue a family liquor license on donditions that it will be at all times maintained and conducted under and by virtue of ordinances and police protection provided by same under the laws of the City of Vernon. Ordinance No. 159 entitled an ordinance prohibiting the ob- struction of sidewalks or streets by bushes, hedges or trees and prohibiting the growth and existence of certain weeds upon sidewalks and premises; and prohibiting the depositing or accumulating of rubbish and other substance on any pramises in the City of Vernon, was laid over until a. full meeting of the Board. Ordinance No. 16~entitled an ordinance, fixing the amount of money necessary to be raised by taxation upon taxable property in the City of Vernon, as a revenue to carryon the various departments -3- .c r";l UL~ of said City for the current year, not to exceed .the limit fixed by law and to pay the bonded or other indebtedness of said City, was laid over. The following application was received for a permit to open, establish and maintain a base ball park in the Ci ty of Vernon, in words and figures as follows, to-wit:- "August 3rd, 1915. The further attentidn of your Honorable Body is directed to the nation wide publicity and advertising that will result for the City of Vernon the value of which should appeal strongly to your Honorable Body. Ordinance No. 161 entitled an ordinance declaring the intention of the Board of Trustees of the City of Vernon, California, to change and establish the grade of Ross street, WAS introduced, read and passed its first reading. -6- 66 Ordinance No. 162 entitled an ordinance fixing the tax rate for the year 1915-16 to carryon the various departments of the municipal government of the City of Vernon, California, was introduced, read and passed its first reading. Mr. Lozier appeared before the Board and asked for a permit to build an addition to his barn, and the said permit was granted by the Board.
