An adj ourned regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of' the
Oity of Vernon, county of Los Angeles, State of californiaj was
held on the 28th day of December 191 5, at 2 0' olook
P. M. of said day at the regular meeting plaoe of said Board in
said Oity of Vernon, whioh said plaoe is the plaoe fixed by ordi-
nanoe for regular meetings of said Board to be held, pursuant to
adjournment from the regular meeting held the 21st day of
Deoember 1915 ,

By motion duly and regularly made and adopted the Marshal was
instructed to see that the gutters of 26th Street and other streets
in the City of Vernon. particUlarly 'Santa Fe Ave. be oleaned up.
Thereupon Resolution No. 147 being a resolution awarding the
contract for the improvement of the East end of Santa Fe Avenue, to
the L. A. Paving Company, was introduoed, read and adopted by the

181 of Maps, Records of Los Angeles County, California, to its inter-
section with the production Easterly of the center line of Center

Huntington Park Extension No. I aforesaid, said line being the South
ci ty bounda.ry line of said City of Vernon, a. strip eighty feet wide
being forty feet either side of the center line, excepting such
portions thereof as are required by law to be kept in order and re-
pair by any person, firm or corporation.
WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees of the City of Vernon, California,
did in open session on the 21st day ofDecembe~, 1915 publicly open,
examine and dec19xe all sealed proposals or bids for doing the
following work in said city, to-wit:
That portion of Santa Fe Avenue in said city lying East of the
center line of said Santa Fe Avenue and extending Southerly ~rom the
ll%'oduotiotl Westerly of the center line of Fruitland Road as shown on
map of Huntington Park Extension No.1, recorded in Book 8, page 181 of
Maps, Records of Los Angeles County, California, to its intersection
with the production Easterly of the center line of Center Avenue, some-
times called Center Street, as shown on map of the Hay Tract, recorded
in Book 29, page 2 of Miscellaneous Records of said Los Angeles
County and from thence Southerly to its intersection with the produc-
tion Westerly of the South line of Lot 15, Block 6 Huntington Park
Extension No.1 aforesaid, said line being the South city boundary
line of said City of Vernon, a strip 80 feet wide being 40 feet either
side of the center line, excepting such portions thereof as are re-
quired by law to be kept in order and repair by any person, firm or
corporation, be improved in the manner described in Resolution of
Intention No. 144, passed by said Board on the 21st day of September,
1915, in accordance with the plans and specifications referred to; and,
WHEREAS, it is resolved and determined in said Resolution No. 144
that serial bonds shall be issued to represent assessments of $25.00
or over for the cost of said work or improvement; said serial bonds
shall extend over a period ending nine years from and after the 2nd
day of January next succeeding the date of said bonds, and an even
annual proportion of the prinCipal sum thereof shall be payable by
coupon on the 2nd day of January every year after their date until the
whole is paid, and the interest shall be payable semi-annually by coup~
on th~ second days of January and July, respectively, of each year, at
the rate of seven per cent per annum on all sums so unpaid until the
whole of the principal and interest is paid.

issued in accordance with the provisions of the act of the Legislature
of the state of California, entitled "An act to provide a system of
street improvement bonds to represent certain assessments for the
cost of street work and improvements within municipalities, and also
for the payment of such bonds" approved February 27th, 1893 and all acts
supplementary thereto or amendatory thereof.
RESOLVED: That the Board of Trustees of said city hereby rejects
all the proposals or bids except the next hereinunder mentioned, and
hereby awards the contract for doing said work or improvement to the
lowest r&sponsible bidder, to-wit: L. A. Paving Company, a corporation,
at the prices named in their bid, as follows, to-wit:
Paving 18 cents per square foot
Grading 50 cents per lineal foot
Curb 30 cents per linea.l foot
Gutter 18 cents per .s quare foot.
"Pursuant to statute and to Resolution No. 147 of the Board of
Trustees of the City of Vernon, California, directing this notice:
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Board of Trustees of said city,

examined and declared all sealed proposals or bids for doing the follow-
ing work in said city, to-wit:

And it was resolved and determined in said Resolution of Inten-
tion No. 144 that serial bonds shall be issued to represent assessments
of $25.00 or over for the cost of said work or improvement; said serial
bonds to extend over a period ending nine years from and after the 2nd
day of January next succeeding the date of said bonds, and an'even
annual proportion of the principal sum thereof to be payable by coupon
on the 2nd day of January every year after their date until the whole
is paid, and the interest shall be payable semi-annually by coupon on
the second days of January arrl July respectively of each year, at the
rate of seven per cent per annum on all sums so unpaid until the whole

state of California, entitled: "An act to provide a system of street

The Board instructed the City Attorney to write a letter to
Albert Lee Stephens, City Attorney of Los Angeles, California, pro-
testing about the throwing of rubbish in the bed of the Los Angeles
River.

hereby resolve as follows, to-wit:
That the publio interest and convenience require and the Board of
Trustees of said oity do order that portion of Ross street in said
city, extending from the South line of 37th Street, formerly Muriel
Avenue, to the North line of 38th street, formerly Jefferson Street, as
shown on the correoted map of the Aldine Square Traot as per map recor-
ded in Book 29, page 12 of Miscellaneous Records of the County of
Los Angeles, State of California to be improved in the manner described
in Resolution of Intention No. 146, duly a~ regularly adopted by the
said Board on the 16th day of November, 1916 in accordanoe with the
plans and speoifications therein referred to as fOllows, te-wit:

official grade and that the roadway space thereof be paved with a
Portland cement, conorete base and asphalt wearing surfaoe in accor-
dance with Specifications No. 11 and plan,&Ra profile and cross-seotion
No. 140 of said city.
(b) That a concrete gutter twelve (12") inches in width be con-
structed along both sides of the roadway space of said street, as per
Specifications No. 10 of said city, and as per said plan, profile and
cross section.
(c) That a concrete ourb be constructed along both sides of
the roadway space of said street between the aforesaid limits, in
accordance with Specifications No. 9 and also as per said plan, pro-
file and oross-section.
All specifications herein referred to are on file in the office
of the City Clerk of said city.
All plans and profiles herein referred to are on file in the
office of the City Engineer of said city.
The Board of Trustees determines that serial bonds shall be
issued to represent assessments of twenty-five dollars ($25.00) or
over for the cost of said work or improvement; said serial bonds
shall extend over a period ending nine years from and after the
second day of January next succeeding the date of said bonds, and an
even annual proportion of the principal sum thereof shall be payable,
by coupon, on the second day of January every year after their date
until the whole is paid; and the interest shall be payable semi-annually
by coupon, on the second days of January and July respectively of each
year, at the rate of seven per cent (7%) per annum on all sums unpaid,
until the whole of said principal and interest is paid.
Said bonds
shall be issued in accordance with the provisions of an act of the
LegiSlature of the state of California, entitled "An Act to provide a
system of street improvement bonds to represent certain assessments for
the cost of street work and improvements within municipalities, and
also for the payment of such bonds," approved February 27th, 1893, and

The City Clerk is hereby directed to post a copy of this resolu-
tion in three of the most public places in the City of Vernon, to-wit,
one at the Northwest corner of Santa Fe Avenue and 37th street, another

the Board of Trustees of the City of Vernon, California, did, at its meet-
ing on said day, adopt a Resolution of Intention No. 146 in the words
and figures as follows:
RESOLUTION No. 146
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF VERNON.
The Board of Trustees of the City of Vernon, Califol'nia, do hereby resolve as follows, to-wit:
~hat the public interest and convenience require and it is the intention of the Board of Trustees to order that
portIOn of ROSS STREET in said city, extending from the South line of 37th Street, formerly Muriel Avenue, to
the North line of 38th Street, formerly Jefferson Street, as shown on the corrected map of the Aldine Square Tract
as per map recorded in Book 29, page 12 of Miscellaneous Records of the County of Los Angeles, State of California,
to be improved in the following manner:
(a) That said street between said limits be g-raded to the offieial g-rade and that the roadway space thereof be
paved with a Portland cement, concrete base and asphalt wearing surface in accordance with Specifications No. 11
and plan, profile and cross-section No. 140 of said city.
(b) That a concrete gutter twelve (12/1) inches in width be constructed along both sides of the roadway spaee of
said street, as per Specifications No. 10 of said city, and as per said plan, profile and cross section.
(c) That a concrete curb be constructed along both s ides of the roadway space of said street between the afore-

The Sunerintendent of Streets is herebv directed to post notices of street work along- the line of said improve-
ment, in the manner and form required by law, and also in the three public places hereinabove specified. '
T. W. Garr is hereby appointed Superintendent of Streets for all purposes conneeted with this improvement
proceeding.

City Hall of said city.

approved March 18th, 1885, and the several act. amendatory thereof
or supplementary thereto, and also in accordance with the plans and

Said sealed proposals or bids are to be delivered to the under-
signed City Clerk of said city and Clerk of said Board of Trustees,
at his office in the city hall of said City of Vernon, on or before
two o'clock p. M. on Tuesday the 25th day of January, 1916.
Bidders must file with each proposal or bid either a check payable
to the order of the President of the Board of Trustees of said city,
certified by a responsible bank, for an amount which shall not be less
than ten per cent (10%) of the aggregate of the proposal, or else a
bond for the said amount, payable as aforesaid, signed by the bidder
and two sureties, who shall justify before an officer competent to
administer an oath in double said amount and over and above all statu-
tory exemptions.
