19160125 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING. An adjourned regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Oi ty of Vernon, county of Los Angeles, State of. california. was held on the 25th day of January l~l 6, at 2 0 I clock P. M. of said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said Oity of Vernon, which said place is the place fixed by ordi- nance for regular meetings of said Board to be held, pursuant to adj ournment from the regular meeting held the 18th day of January 1916 , There were present at such meeting Trustees, Furlong, Kniffin and Leonis. There were absent from such meeting Trustee, Durbin and Stevens. President Trustee Furlong presiding. Th~ minutes of the meeting January 18th, held on January 11th, and 191 6, were: laid over Mr. George H. Curtis requested the Board to transfer his applica- tion for a permit to construct an asphalt plant from the property of W. M. Stevens on 26th Street' to the property of the Republic Iron and Steel Company. Said request for transfer of location was not in writing and the same was laid over for further action. $150.00 was appropriated by the Board to ~e used to protect Downey Road from flood waters. The City Marshall was instructed to see about the repairing of 52nd Street. This being the day upon which bi ds were to be received !'or the improvement of Ross Street, the City Clerk reported that he had received one bid from the L. A. Paving CompanY. Said bid was in words and figures as follows, to-wit:- "PROPOSAL FOR STREET WORK, WITH BOND." .. City of Vernon, Cal.Jan, 25th, 1916. To the Honorable Board of Trustees of the City of Vernon: In compliance with the advertisement calling therefor, a copy of which is hereto annexed, we hereby propose and agree to perform the work mentioned upon Ross Street, form the Sly line of 37th st to the Nly line of 38th Street in said city and furnish materials in accordance with the specifications and execute the contract there- for, to the satisf'action and under the supervision of the Street Superintendent of the City of Vernon, at the following prices, viz: 1/25/16 -1- 1p.ro """,0 Paving, per square foot, Grading, per lineal foot, Cement Curb, per lineal foot, Cement Gutters, per square foot, 17 cents. 40 cents. 30 cents. 17 cent s . Paving Company, as principal, and E. W. Koopman and E. J. Weinig as aureties, are held and firmly bound unto the City of Vernon, state of California, in the sum of Three hundred Dollars for the payment whereof we hereby bind ourselves, our (if a Corporation) successors, heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and severall~, firmly by these presents. Given under our hands on this 25th day of January, A. D. 1916. (if a Corporation--said company subscribing and setting its cor- porate seal hereto, by E. R. Werdin its President and Gen Mgr thereto authorized.) Now, the condition of the :t'oregoing obligation is such that, whereas the above bounden L. A. Paving Co., is about to hand in and submit to the board of Trustees of the City of Vernon, the foregoing bid or proposal, for the performance of the werk therein mentioned, which includes the furnishihg of all materials in compliance with the specifications therefor, under an invitation of said Board of Trustees contained in the notice or advertisement attached to said bid or proposal: Now, if the bid or proposal of the said L. A. Paving Co., shall be accepted, and the contract for doing of the said work awarded to it thereupon by said board of TrusteeK and if the said L. A. Paving Co., shall fail or neglect to enter into a contract therefor, and to execute an adequate bond to the satisfaction of the Superintendant of Streets of said city, with two or more good suffi- cient sureties, conditioned for the faithful performance of such contract on its part, in such case required by statute, then in that case the above nwned Obligors will p~ to the City of Vernon the full sum of Three hundred Dollars ($300.00) as liquidated damages for _~ "..i"j .,L fi",' if / 1/25/16 -2- such failure and neglect.
