19160620 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes REGULAR MEETING. A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the city of Vernon, Oounty of Los Angeles, and State of California, was held on the 20th day of June , 1916, at 2 o'olock P. M. of said day at the regular meeting plaoe of said Board in said city of Vernon, whioh said time and plaoe is the time and plaoe fixed by ordinanoe for regular meetings of the said Board to be held. There were present at suoh meeting Trustees, Furlong. stevens and Kniffin. There were absent from suoh meeting Trustee' Leonis and Durbin. President Trustee hrlong presiding. The minutes of the meeting June 6th. held on 1916 , were:laid over. ordinance No. 169. entitled an ordinanoe granting to the Amerioan Can Company permission to construct a 14 inch sewer in Santa Fe Avenue, with proper manholes and connections from its plant Borth to the main sewer in Vernon Avenue, was introduced, read and passed its first reading. The City Clerk stated that he had received a letter from the Nicholls-Loomis 00.. in words and figures as follows, to-wit: "NICHOLS-LOOMIS CO." "Los Angeles, Cal. June 1, 1916. Dr. '1'. J. Furlong, 55th & Alameda sts., Vernon, Oal. Dear Sir:- We enolose application in triplicate for an ordinance asking tor a S. P. spur traok across 25th st. We would like to have this come up at your next meeting, as we are anxious to start building on the property. Any expense that there is conneoted with this. if Y011 will let us know, we will mail you oheck. Trusting that this is satisfactory, we are, Yours truly Nioholls-Loomis Co. (Signed) J. E. Thereupon Ordinance No. 170 entitled an ordinance granting to the Southern Pacific Railroad Company, a corporation, j.ts suc- cessors and assigns, the right, privileges and permission to lay, construct, maintain and operate a railroad spur track aoross 25th Street in the City of Vernon, was introduced, read and passed its first reading. The Clerk further reported that he had received a letter from the Southern Paoifio Railroad Company, in words and figures as follows, to-wit: "Los Angeles, may 13th, 1916. TO THE HONORABLE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OJ' THE CITY OF VERNON: Gentlemen:- The undersigned, Southern Pacific Railroad Company, hereby makes application for franchise to construot and for a period of fifty years operate and maintain railroad traoks over, upon, along and across that portion of Alameda street, in the City of Vernon, lying west of the Southern Pacific Railroad Company's existing right of way and between the northerly and southerly boun- dary lines of said City of Vernon; together with the right to con- struct and for a period of '..Y fifty (50) years maintain and operate all necessary switohes and cross-overs between said tracks and all spur tracks turn-outs that may be necessary properly to serve BBt a~ and all property lying west of said portion of Alameda Street; and together also to construct and maintain such other appliances and apparatus as may be necessary to properly equip, operate and maintain such railroad tracks. A map showing in shaded red the aforesaid portion of Alameda Street is hereunto annexed and made a part of this applica~ion. WHEREFOR, petitioner prays that said franchise be granted as herein applied for. SOUTEERN PACIFIC RAILROAD COllPANY By H. V. Platt, Assistant General Manager." Thereupon Ordinance No. 171, entitled an ordinance granting a franchise to the Southern Pacific Railroad Company, a corporation, 1{i2 6/20/16 -2- its successors and assigns, to construct and for the period of fif~ years to~erate and maintain railroad tracks over, along and upon a portion of Alameda Street, in the City of Vernon, California, was introduced, read and passed its first reading. The reports of the Treasurer and Auditor were referred to the finance committee. The following warrants were audited and ordered paid: J. B.
