19160815 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes REGULAR MEETING. A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the city of Vernon~ Oounty of Los Angeles.. and State of California~ was held on the 15th day of August , 191 6, at Z 0' clock P. M. of said day at the regular meeting plaoe of said Board in said city of Vernon, whioh said time and plaoe is the time and plaoe fixed by ordinanoe for regular meetings of the said Board to be held. There were present at suoh meeting Trustees, Kniffin, Stevens and Leonis . There were absent from suoh meeting Trustee, Furlong and Durbin. P~~e~~~~~-~~~~ ~. ~~~ The minutes of the meeting held cn August 1st, 1916 , were: laid over. The meeting was called to order by the Clerk. Thereupon the Board appointed Mr. Kniffin as president of the Board of Trustees, pro tem because of the absence of Mr. Furlong. Ordinance No. 170 granting to the Southern Pacific Railroad Company, a corporation, its successors and assigns, the right, privilege and permission to lay, construct, maintain and operate a railroad spur track across 25th Street in the City of Vernon, was laid over. Ordinance No. 171, entitled an ordinance granting a franchise to the Southern Pacific Railroad Company, a corporation, its suc- cessors and assigns to construct and for a period of fifty years to operate and maintain railroad tracks over, along and upon a portion of Alameda Street in the City of Vernon, California, was laid over. Ordinance No. 172 entitled an ordinance fixing the amount of money necessary to be raised by taxation upon taxable property in the City of Vernon, a.s a revenue to carryon the various departments in said City for the current year, not to exceed the limit fixed by law and to pay the bonded or other indebtedness of said City, was read for the second time and adopted. Ordinance No. 173 entitled an ordinance fixing the tax rate for the year 1916-17 to pay the bonded or other indebtedness of said City and to carryon the various departments of the municipal government Of the City of Vernon, California for the current year, was introduced!, read and passes its first reading. The Board instructed the City Engineer to establish the grade of 27th, 29th, 37th and 52nd Streets. -1~.O _i...(,..;. -1- The Clerk reported that he had received the following letter from Judge Willis I, Korrison: "Law offices Willis I. Korrison." "Los Angeles. August 12th. 1916. Hon. Board of Trustees of the City of Vernon. Vernon, California. Gentlemen:- Enclosed herewith will be found application of Guiseppe Ricciaxni for a permit to connect the property at the Northwest co~ner of Boyle and Vernon Avenues to the sewer of the City of Los Angeles. which passes dawn Vernon Avenue, the connection. however, to be made on Boyle Avenue. Enclosed with this application will be found a Cashier's Draft for the sum of $20.00 on the German American Trust & Savings Bank. payable to the order of the Sewer Department of the City of Vernon. which I believe is the amount required for that purpose. In the event that this matter requires any further attention. or if the amount enclosed is not sufficient, you will kindly advise me at your earliest convenience. Thanking you in advance for your attention. I remain, Respectfully yours, WIJ~ER (Signed) Willis I. Morrison." T~ application referred to in the above letter is in words and figures as fo~lows, to-wit: "August 8, 1916. The Honorable Board of Trustees, Vernon. Ca1. Gentlemen :- The undersigned hereby applies for a sewer permit to cover a sewer connection from the one acre plat at the North West corner of Boyle and Vernon Agenues in the City of Vernon. to the sewer of the City of Los Angeles which passes down Boyle Avenue. Enclosed will be found a check to defray the sewer assessment on the one acre. This land is leased by the unders igned. Yours respectfully, (Signed) Giuseppe Ricciardi." Furlong, Salary for July, 1916. Thereupon the meeting adjourned to meet again on Tuesday August 22nd, 1916 at 2 o'clock p.
