19161221 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes REGULAR MEETING. A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the city of . Vernon~ Oounty of Los Angeles, and State of California, was held on the 21st day of November , 191 6, at 2 0' clook P. M. of said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said city of Vernon, which said time and plaoe is the time and plaoe fixed by ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held. There were present at such meeting Trustees, Furlong, Kniffin, stevens and Leonis. There were absent from such meeting Trustee, Durbin. President Trustee Furlong presiding. The minutes of the meeting , held on Ootober 17th, 1916 and November 8th, 1916 ~ , were: read and approved. Ordinance No. 171 entitled an ordinance granting to the Southern Pacific Railroad Company, a corporation, its successors and assigns, to construct and for a period of fifty years to operate and maintain railroad tracks over, along and upon a portion of Alameda Street, in the City of Vernon, California, was laid over. Ordinance No. 175 entitled an ordinance, declaring the intention of the Board of Trustees of the City of Vernon, to close up, vacate and abandon for street purposes a portion of Center Avenue in the City of Vernon, County of Los Angeles, State of California, was introduced, read and passed its first reading. The resignation of Howard McCurdy as City Engineer of the City of Vernon, was presented to the Board and the same was taken under advisement. The report of the treasurer and auditor was referred to the finanoe committee. The Board appointed Mr. W. C. Mushet to check up the auditor's books and get them in proper condition by the first of the year. Mr.Kniffin and President Furlong were appointed as a committee to take up the repairing of the city hall and the putting of said building in good condition. The Clerk stated that he had received another letter from the Railroad Commission regarding the erection of signs at railway cross- ings. Said letter was referred to the City Attorney with instructions that he reply to such letter stating that the City did not feel it the duty of the City of Vernon to erect the signs but that the railroad companies were the proper people to do so. i93 11/21/16 -1- -.. Ordine,nce :No. 159 enti. tIed an ordinance prohibiting the obstruction of sidewalks or streets by bushes, hedges or trees and prohibiting the growth and existence of certain weeds upon sidewalks and premises; and prohibiting the depositing or accumula.ting of rubbish and other substance on any premises in the City of Vernon, was read for the second time and adopted. Ordinance No. 1'1t3 entitled an ordinance regulating the hauling of ~~""1>'''''~M/a garbage~through the City of Vernon and fixing the hours when same may be transported through the city and regulating deposits of garbage and table refuse in said City of Vernon, was introduced, read and passed its first reading. R. stafford, Health officer, sala.ry for August, September and October, 1916 Baker Iron Works, street signs J. F. Soliday T. W. Garr, board for prisoners A. Kingsland, for dirt T. J.
