taxes tl.re collected by the county, representatives of these cities
appeared in counsel with the Board of SuperVisors on the 15th instant.
It appeared that the ,11atter of shortage in tax money received
was due to the unredeemed delinquencies, and that probably the ap-
portionnent of penalties and interest collected at time of redemption
for the years prior to January 1, 1917, was the only remaining point
of controversy.
After a free discussion the matter was referred to the County
Counsel's office for a report not later than February 19th. On
this date the County Counsel reports that there is no question but
that the cities are entitled to their sha.re of the penalties and
interest collected when properties are redeemed from tax sales; that
the county officials are ex officio city officials of the cities in
this matter and that the county should make the apportionment as con-
templated by the statute.
The matter V18.S referred by the :Soard to the County Auditor to
rr:.ake the proper apportionment as soon as it can l)e done.
CAving to the shortage in county funds a,vailable to procure the
necessa.ry clerical assistance, thi s apportionment may not be made
before the beginning of the next fiscal year (July 1).
Respectfully submitted,
..j
