REGULAR MEETING.
A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the city of
Vernon~ Oounty of Los Angeles, and State of California~ was held
on the 19th day of June , 191 7, at 2 o'olook P. M. of
said day at the regular meeting plaoe of said Board in said city
of Vernon, whioh said time and plaoe is the time and plaoe fixed by
ordinanoe for regular meetings of the said Board to be held.
There were present at suoh meeting Trustees~ Leonis. Kniffen.
stevens, Furlong and City Attorney Williams.
There were absent from suoh meeting Trustee~ Durbin
President Trustee Furlong presiding.
The minutes of the meeting , held on June 6th

oorrection.
Thereupon the application whioh was ~resented by John A. Arnold
at the meeting held April 3rd, 1917, and being in words and figures

Dear Sir:
I herewith make application for -a permit- for the purpose
of oonstruoting and operating an Oil Refinery upon the lands as out-
lined in red in the blueprint map hereto attached, - the desoription
of said lands being more particularly described as follows:
Lots 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and portions of Lots 13, 15
& 17 (together with the alley abutting thereon in the, rear) in Blook
11 of theR. M. Ames Subdivision of the Glassell Tract in said City
of Vernon, as the same appears of record in Book 23, page 73 of the
Records of Los Angeles County.
On the enolosed map you will find the white lines indicate
in a rough way wberethe plant and tankage is supposed to be placed.
No containers will be plaoed outside the small red line which is
fifty feet from the paved street.

I enclose herewith my check for the sum of Twenty-five
($25.00) Dollars, same being amount required by ordinance for the
establishment of such industries in said City.

was taken up by the Board and considered and thereupon said appliea-
tion was denied.
Mr. Arnold was then and there notified that there
was under consideration by the Board as a Committee of the whole a
proposed amendment to Ordinanee No. 154 looking to the reduction of
the distance'at which crude oil and its products may be stored from
the side lines of pUblic streets, avenues, highways and boulevards,
but that the said Committee as a whole had not yet reported, and the
Committee then and there was granted further time in Which to report.
Thereupon Ordinance No. 185 entitled "An Ordinance granting
to the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad Company a franchise for
a spur track across Twenty-sixth Street East of Boyle Avenue for the
purpose of serving the Stauffer Chemical Company" was taken up and
considered, but was not further acted upon, and the City Attorney was
instructed to include therein a section providing for the Railroad to
have and keep at all times while the said spur was in operation across
said 26th Street, a flagman or signalman for the purpose of protecting
the public in passing along said 26th street, and thereupon further
consideration of the Ordinance was postponed until the next regular
meeting.
Thereupon Mr. Jake Pad4ison asked permission to haul market
refuse through the streets for the purpose of feeding same to his hogs
in violation of an ordinanee regulating same, which request was denied.
Thereupon th$ City Clerk was instructed to purchase supplies
for the offiee of the Information Bureau, but not to exeeed $200.00.
Thereupon the City Clerk was instructed to take up with the
Paeific Telephone and 'Telegraph Company the matter of deposit of
$36.60 to cover exeayations made in Santa Fe Avenue at 25th Street;
also a deposit of $4.00 to cover excavations made in 57th Street be-
tween 2nd and 3rd Streets, also in the alley at 57th Street, (a total
of $40.60); and in the meantime the vouchers dated June 19th presented
in favorar said corporation are held up pending said report.

Thereupon Mr. Kniffen moved that the resolution considered
and passed at the meeting held March 22nd, 1917 touching the order of
the Board ordering that no spiritous, vinous and malt liquors be
served in the gardens attached to places where such liquors were sold
be rescinded.
The motion did not receive a second.
Thereupon the following application from the Pacific Light
and Power Corporation was read:-
"Los Angelea, Cal., May 23, 1917.
City Clerk,
Vernon, California.
Dear Sir:
We beg permission to set ten poles on the east side of Boyle
Avenue between Vernon and the Los Angeles River, replacing ten tele-
phone poles at this location.
An early reply would be greatly appreciated as parties in
this immediate vicinity desire lighta installed as soon as possible

Thereupon the Clerk reported that he had received a letter
from the National Surety Company asking for a return of the bond for
workon 26th street.
The letter was referred to the City Engineer
forEeport.
Thereupon a petition was presented by the water users in and
around the intersection of Hawthorne and Vernon Avenues, oomplaining
of the insufficiency of the water supply supplied them by Walter
Soelaszkiawitz.
The matter was referred to the President of the Board
