To the Honorable Board of Trustees,
City of Vernon, California.
Gentlemen:
Owing to the fact that the distribution of my mother's Estate
will occupy my time this afternoon, I will be unable to personally attend
your meeting; therefore, I must authorize Mr. Howard Lorenz to take up
the matter of adjusting our difficulties at my Park.
As you gentlemen know, I am a more or less busy man with ~y
other affairs and cannot find sufficient time to look after the Park.
It represents quite an investment on my part, about Seventy-five Thous-
and Dollars, so if you gentlemen cannot see your way clear to adjust
matters so that they will run smoothly and so tha.t I can derive Borne
income from this investment, you will make it necessary for me to make
a deal with Mr. Lorenz so that I will not have to worry about conditions
This I must do this week if I am not allowed to operate the Park.
Hoping that you will see the conditions I have been laboring
under and tha.t you will give me the relief which I am sure I have coming
to me a.nd thanking you for all past favors, I beg to remain,
Yours sincerely,
Ed. R. Maier"

stated tha.t the shooting was done by colored people in the grandstand,
but that it had nothing to do with the game, and that it wa.s their in-
