19180319 Regular City Council Meeting - MinutesREGULAR MEETING.
A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of
Vernon, County, of Los Angeles, and State of California, was held
on the 19th day of March 1918, at 2 o'clock P. M. of
sai d day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said City
of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by
ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held.
There were present at such meeting Trustees, Furlong, Kniffin,
Leonia, Durbin and Stevens.
There were absent from such meeting Trustee, None.
President Trustee J. J. Furlong presiding.
The minutes of the meetings, held on March 6th and March llth,
1918 were: read by the Clerk
and upon motion duly mode, seconded and carried, were approved.
Application of Stauffer Chemical Company for factory operating;
permit covering the manufacture of chemicals on their property on
East 26th street, the property being more fully described as Tract
30�38, Book No. 31, page 44, Lots 1 and 2, was read by the Clerk,
and upon motion duly made by Trustee Leonia, seconded by Trustee
Durbin and carried by the following vote, such permit was granted:
.Ayes: Trustees Durbin, Kniffin, Stevens, Leonis and Furlong.
Noes: Trustees none.
Absent: Trustees none.
Application of American Alloy & Chemical Company dated January
31st, 1918, laid over.
Application of Leviathan l:Iines Company, dated February 2nd., 1918,
laid over.
Application of J. J. Doyle, dated march 12th, 1918, for permit
to hold and conduct sparring exhibitions and. boxing contests at
38th and Santa Fe avenue, read by the Clerk, and upon motion of
Trustee Durbin, seconded by Trustee Kniffin, such permit was granted`
by the following vote:

Application of J. B. Weil for license to conduct a wholesale
and family liquor store in the City of Vernon, dated March 18th, 1918,

read by the Clerk. Trustee Stevens moved that this license be granted,
but this motion received no second. Trustee Leonia moved that this
matter be referred to a committee of the whole, which motion was
seconded by Trustee Durbin and carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Furlong, 1-niffin, Leonia, Durbin and Stevens.
Noes: Trustees none.
Absent: Trustees none.
Application of Ed. R. Maier, of 440 Aliso street, Los angeles,
Calif., for second class liquor license at baseball park at Vernon,
dated harch 14th, 1916, read by the Clerk. Upon motion of Trustee
Durbin seconded by Trustee Kniffin, and carried by the following
vote, such license was granted to Ed. R. Idaier:
Ayes: Trustees Kniffin, Stevens, Leonia, ''urlong and Durbin.
Noes: Trustees :Zone.
Absent Trustees none.
Application for excavation permit, made by South Los Angeles Land
and 'eater Company, dated I:arch 18th, 1918, read by the Clerk. Said
application not being in regular fora, to -wit; not being signed by
any officer of the Water Company, and not being accompanied by check
or money covering guarantee deposit -required, same was laid over.
Service of notice in land registration lase from Crail and
Crail, Attorneys, read by the Clerk, and upon motion duly made,
seconded and carried same was referred to City Attorney Chamberlin.
Permits to haul sand, gravel or dirt, over public streets in the
City of Vernon, were granted to the follotirring

J. R. IicCrack en, 2307 Holly drive, Hollywood, Calif.
C. Reyes, 2319 Stephenson avenue, Los Angeles, Calif.
