19180521 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes
REGULAR MEETING.
A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of
Vernon~ Oounty of Los Angeles, and State of California~ was held
on the 21st day of May , 1918 , at 2 0' clock P. M. of
said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said city
of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by
ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held.
There were present at such meeting Trustees, Furlong, Kniffin,
Leonis, Durbin and Stevens.
There were absent from such meeting Trustee, None.

presiding.

1918 , were: read by the Clerk
and upon motion duly made, secoT..lded rmd carried, vvere approved.

read by the Clerk.
Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried,
this matter was referred to a corr@ittee of the whole, for investigation
as to cleaning up the property.
Upon motion of Trustee Leonis, seconded by Trustee l~iffin, and
carried, application of Levy Brothers for operating permit, was
referred to Committee consisting of Trustees lCniffin and stevens.
Application of John Feeley for Soldier1s license, ordered filed.
Application of Leviathan Hines Company for o;?eratin[: permit, laid
over.
Communication from South Los i..ngeles Land & Water Company,
regarding pipe line up Santa Fe avenue, laid over.
Upon motion duly made, seconded and ca:cried, i;,ll applic:~),tions
for licuor licenses before the Board were ordered filed.
~\.'pplication of Panama Lubricants Company for permission to
erect tanks for storage of lubricating oil on their property, laid over.
Communication from Church Federation of Los iUlgeles, under date
of l.TaJi' 7th, 1918, together vvi th copy of resolution regarding liquor
tl'affic, read by the Clerk, but no action vvas taken.
Trustee Durbin moved that a221ication of B. D. Forbes for
liquor license be brought up before the Board for consideration and
a vote thereon. This motion was seconded by Trustee Stevens, and
the vote was as follows:

Hot Voting: Trustees Leonis, Stevens and Furlong.
Absent: Trustees none.
Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, building
ancl operating permits vvere gre-nted to C. E. Gay & Son, covering
construction and operation of mQnufacturing plant for refrigerat-
ing machinery on Lots 1, 2, 3 and 4 3lock A nay Star Tract.

by the Clerk:

of any li(uor establishment in the City of Vernon, whether it be a
retail, ~holesale, restaurant or second-class liquor establishment,
and the employees of any such li~uor establisrunent, refrain from
drinking any vinous , malt or other intoxicating lic~uors upoIithe
premises of any such liquor estsblis~Jilent, except with bona-fide
meals, or appe~:ring in any Slwh e~tablishment in an intoxicated
condi tion.
Hotice of this resolution shall be given by the Clerk, to the
holders of liquor licenses in the City of Vernon by registered mail
and Gny person violating the same shall be cited before the Board
of Trustees at any meetinc' thereof to sho\'J cau~:e why his license
should not be revol:ed. If, u.9on a hearing of said order to show
cause t the Board of Trustees t by a maj 01'i ty of its members. shall
find that the holder of [my lic.uo.r-license shall h2~veWillfully
viol:;tte(~ the terms of this resolution, then the liqu0r license of

over.
Bond of City Clerk T. J. Furlong, was presented to the Board,
and accepted and ordered filed.
Financial report of City Clerk for month of April, 1918,
read by the Clerk and referred to the Finance Committee.
