A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of Vernonl Oounty of Los Angeles, and State of California, was held on the 4th day of June , 19l8, at 2 o'olook P. M. of said day at the regular meeting plaoe of said Board in said city of Vernon, whioh said time and plaoe is the time and plaoe fixed by ordinanoe for regular meetings of the said Board to be held. There were present at suoh meeting Trustees, Durbin, Leonis and Y...niffin. There were absent from suoh meeting Trustee, Furlong and Stevens. President Trustee presiding. The minutes of the meeting , held on 191 ,were: President Trustee J. J. Furlong being absent, Trustee Leonis was appointed Uhairman Pro Tem. Minutes of the meeting held on M.ay 21st, 1918, read by the Clerk, and upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, were approved. Communication from City Clerk's and Treasurer's Association of San Mateo County, dated May 26th, 1918, read by the Clerk and ordered filed. Application of Garold G. Hofmeister, dated N~y 29th, 1918, for license to conduct sandwich wagon in the City of Vernon, read by .the Clerk and ordered filed. City Attorney Chamberlin was instructed to prepare ordinance to prohibit peanut stands, lunch wagons, etc., from occupying any portion of City Streets or sidewalks. Application of K. Udo, for lunch room license, read by the Clerk, and as no location was specified in said application, the same was ordered filed. Application of the One Dollar Taxicab Service Company for license to operate taxi-cab business in the City of Vernon, read by the Clerk, and ordered filed. Communication from City Clerk of City of Berkeley, California, dated May 7th, together with copy of ordinance against the uetterance or use of seditious language, read by the Clerk, and ordered filed. Application of J. D. The following resolution was introduced and read by the Clerk: RESOLUTION NO. 168. WHEREAS, it is now, and always has been the policy of the City of VeTI10n to strictly and rigidly enforce the governmental rules and regulations prohibiting the sale and serving of liquors to soldiers and sailors of the United States, and WHEREAS the residents of the City of Vernon and the authorities thereof, are now, and always have been anxious and willing to assist in every way possible, in the strict enforcement of said ~les and ref;\llations, and WHEREAS athletic exhibitions and sports in which soldiers and sailors from the surrounding military and naval camps have participated have been held, staged and conducted in the City of Vernon, which exhibitions and sports have attracted many soldiers and sailors within the gates of our city, and WHER~~S athletic exhibitions and sports in which soldiers and sailors are participants are likely to be held in the future in the City of Vernon, thereby attracting many soldiers and sailors to our city, NOW THEREFORE, THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF VERllOH DO HERE13Y RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: That all liquor establishments in the City of Vernon are hereby ordered to be closed for the entire day upon which any athletic exhibition or sport in which soldiers or aailors are participants is held in the City of Vernon and the owners, proprietors, managers or other employees having charge or control of, or any employees of any liquor establishment are hereby prohibited from selling, serving, or giving away, or causing, permitting or allowing to be sold, served or given away, any spirituous, vinous, malt or mixed intoxicating liquors 63 --~-,.,....,~ ~._'.'ff'>'VT,~'''.._.",""O:,""' ':"-"'~':'~~"'1'1""'""''''"'-'"''~-'''_~' -;-<nI"; ... That all owners, proprietors, managers or other employees having charge or control of, or ffi~y employees of any liquor establishment in the City of Vernon are hereby strictly prohibited from allowing or permitting or causing to be allowed or permitted, any soldier or sailor upon the premises where any spirituous, vinous, malt or mixed intoxicating liquor is sold, served or given away, in the City of Vernon at any time. That any violation of any of the provisions of this resolution shall constitute sufficient cause for the revocation by the BDard of Trustees of any liquor license heretofore issued. That the Clerk of the Board of Trustees shall give notice of the passage of this resolution upon the owner mId holder of every liquor license in the City of Vernon by serving a copy of this resolution upon the owner and holder of every such license. r, Thomas J. City Attorney Chamberlin was instructed to prepare necessary ordinance, eta., for compelling property owners to clean weeds off of property along Santa Fe avenue, from North to the South City limits, 25th street between Santa Fe avenue and lUameda street; 37th street, between Santa Fe avenue and Alameda street; 38th street, between Santa Fe avenue and Almneda street; Vernon avenue, between Santa Fe avenue and Alameda street, and E Vernon avenue, between Santa Fe avenue and the East City limits.
