19181001 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes
REGULAR MEETING.
A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of
Vernonl Oounty of Los Angeles, and State of Californial was held
on the 1st day -of October, , 191 a, at 2 0' olook P. M. of
said day at the regular meeting plaoe of said Board in said city
of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by
ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held.
There were present at such meeting Trustees Durbin, Kniffin,
Leonis and Furlong. '
There were absent from such meeting Trustee, Stev~s.
President Trustee J. J. Furlong
presiding.
The minutes of the meeting , held on September 17th, 1918,
191 , were: laid over.
Communication from Santa Fe Railway dated September 21st, 1918,
relative to crossing at 26th and Santa Fe tracks, read by the Clerk,
and upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, same was referred
to City Enginee~.
Communication from B. D. Forbes, relative to return of certain
deposits, read by the Clerk. The Clerk was thereupon instructed
to furnish Mr. Forbes with demand upon which to make his claim for
the return of this money in the regular way.
Communication from United States Railroad Administration,
( Santa Fe Ry) dated October 1st. 1918, regarding lowering of
tracks across 37th street, read by the Clerk.
Petition of General Petroleum Corporation, for franchise to
construct spur track across 37th street, dated October 1st, 1918,
presented to the Board.
Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, Trustee Leonis
and City Attorney Chamberlin were appointed Committee of Two to
take up the matter of lowering tracks, and granting of franchise.
at this location.
Thereupon Resolution of In~ention No. 173, being resolution
of the Board of Trustees declaring their intention to imprOve East
Forty-sixth street and Paoific Boulevard, was introduced and read
by the Clerk. and upon motion of Trustee Kniffin, seconded by Trustee
Durbin, said resolution of Intention was passed and adopted by the

following vot.e:
Ayes: Trustees Leonia, Durbin, Furlong and Kniffin.
Noes: Trastees none.
Absent: Trustee Stevens.
Applioation of South Los Angeles Land & Wa~er Company for
permit to excavate for water pipe line in 28th street, dated Oot. 1st,
1918, read by the Clerk, and laid over.
Applioation from Ernest Wells, for permit to establish a
plant for the manufacture of paint ma~erials, aiua and oopper oxide,
on premises of Judge Chesebro, read by the Clerk, and laid over.
Deputy Marshal Fred Harris was instruoted to notify Vernon
Wine & Liquor Company to appear before the Board of Trustees at their
next regular meeting, October 16th, 1918, in the matter of charges
against said Company for violating their liquor license.
Thereupon Mr. Kuhn, Deputy City Clerk, asked to know the
pleasure of the Board of Trustees at this time conoerning his application
for increase in salary. This matter was laid oyer to the next regular
meeting of the Board.
Upon motion duly made, seoonded and carried, meeting adjourned.
