REGULAR MEETING.
A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the city of
Vernon, Oounty of Los Angeles) and State of California, was held
on the 15th day of October , 1918 , at 2 o'clook P. M. of
said day at the regular meeting plaoe of said Board in said city
of Vernon, whioh said time and p1aoe is the time and plaoe fixed by
ordinanoe for regular meetings of the said Board to be held.
There were present at suoh meeting Trustees) Furlong, Leonia
and Kniffin.
There were absent from such meeting Trustee, Stevens and Durbin.

September 17th, 1918, and
) were: read by the Clerk,
and upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, Were approved.
Draft of an ordinance, being ordinance No. 20r, entitled,
"An Ordinance of the City of Vernon, fixing the salary of the Recorder
of the City of Vernon, and repealing all ordinances and parts of
ordinances in conflict herewith," read by the Clerk for the second
time, and upon motion of Trustee Kniffin, seconded by Trustee Leonis
and carried by the following vote, to-wit; Ayes; Trustees Furlong,
Ywaiffin and Leonis, Noes; None, Absent; Trustees Stevens and Durbin,
said ordinance was passed and adopted.
Application of South Los Angeles Land & Water Company,
for permit to excavate in East 28th street, laid over.
Building permit was granted to Southern Glass Company,
to improve and make additions to building on Lots 6, 8, 10, 12, 14,
16 and 18 Block 11 of H. M. Ames Subdivision of the Glassell Tract.
Financial report on the City of Vernon for month of
September, 1918, read by the Clerk, and referred to the Finance
Committee.
Petition from firms located on 52nd street, dated October
15th, 1918, asking that 52nd street between Santa Fe avenue and
Alameda street, be repaired, read by the Clerk. Upon motion duly
made seconded and carried, this matter was referred to the President
of the Board of Trustees.
President J. J. Furlong, thereupon asked that an
appropriation of $50.00 in addition to a previOUS appropriation of
same amount, be made, for the repair of this street. Upon motion

of Trustee Leonis, duly seconded, and carried by the following vote.
to-wit: Ayes: Trustees Kniffin, Leonis and Furlong, Hoes; none,
Absent; Trustees Durbin and Stevens, said appropriation of $60.00
was allowed.
Application of General Petroleum Corporation for temporary
permit to construct spur track across 37th street, was referred to
City Attorney Chamberlin.
The Vernon Wine and Liquor Company. having been cited to
appear before the Board of Trustees at this meeting to answer
complaints of selling liquor to minors, and failing to so appear,
it Was moved by Trustee Leonis, seconded by Trustee Kniffin, and
carried by the following vote, to-wit; Ayes: Trustees Furlong,
Leonia and Y~iffin, Noes; Trustees none; Absent, Trustees Stevens
and Durbin, that the Vernon Wine & Liquor Company's license, issued
in the name of Walter Szelaszkiewioz, be suspended commencing at
12:00, o'clock P. M., night of Ootober 31st, 1918, and that said place
of business be closed at that date and hour.
The following demands were thereupon presented to the Board
for pa.yment:

Upon motion of Trustee Leonis. seconded by Trustee Kniffin.
and carried by the following vote. to-wit; Ayes: TrQstees
Furlong. Kniffin and Leonis. Noes; Trustees none. absent; Trustees
Durbin and Stevens. all of said demands with the exception of
Nos. 4010 and 4027. of M.W. O'Donnell for August and September
salaries, respectively. making a total of $976.49. were approved
and ordered paid.
Trustee Leonis thereupon asked to know what the other members
of the Board desired to do with Mr. Kuhn's request for an increase
in salary. but it appeared that the Board did not desire to
act upon this matter without at least four members being present.
therefore Trustee Kniffin moved. and it was duly seconded and
carried. that the matter be laid over to next meeting.
Upon motion duly made. seconded and carried, meeting
adjourned.
