ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING.
An adjourned regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the
Oity of Vernonl county of Los Angelesl State of california. was
held on the 7th day .of November. 1918, at a 0 I clock
P. M. of said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in
said Oity of Vernon, whioh said plaoe is the place fixed by ordi-
nance for regular meetings of said Board to be held, pursuant to
adjournment from the regular meeting held the 6th day of
Hovember
1918 J
There were present at such meeting Trusteesl Kniffin, Leonis and
Furlong.
There were absent from such meeting Trusteel Stevens and Durbin.

were: laid over.
In the matter of petition of General Petroleum Corporation
for franchise to construot, maintain and operate two spur traoks
aoross East 37th street, dated October 1st, 1918, and applioation
~fcsaid corporation for a temporary permit to go ahead with the con-
atruotion of these spurs pending granting of franchise, it was resolved
by the Board of Trustees as follows:
That the General Petroleum Corporation be granted a temporar,
permit, pending the granting of franchise by ordinance in regular way,
to construct a spur track across East 37th street in the City. of
Vernon, County of Los Angeles, State of California, along the follow-
ing desoribed course, to-wit; beginning on the south boundary line of
said East 37th street at a point thereon distant sixteen (16) feet
westerly from the east boundary line of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa
Fe Railway Company's right of way, where same orosses said E 37th
street. running thence north forty (40) feet to a point in the north
boundary line of said E 37th street, as further shown in red on map
of the: Division Engineer Santa Fe Railway Company No. L...'1, which said
map is attaohed to said petition of General Petroleum Corporation
dated October 1st, 1918.
Upon motion duly made and seconded, the foregoing resolution
Was adopted by the follOWing vote:
Ayes: Trustees Kniffin. Leonis and Furlong.
Noes: Trustees none.
Absent: Trustees Stevens and Durbin.

Water Company, along East 28th street, laid over.
Mr. Walter Szelaszkiewicz appeared before the Board at this time,
asking that he be given permission to re-open his liquor business at
corner Vernon and Hawthorne, known as the Vernon Wine & Liquor Company.
The Board thereupon listened to complaints against the manner in which
this liquor establishment had been run, made by Deputy Marshal Fred
Harris, as well as arguments in his own behalf by Mr. Szelaszkiewic.z.,
and after some discussion took a recess of several minutes. Coming
to order again at the call of the Chair, the motion was made by
Trustee Kniffin, seconded by Trustee Leonis. and carried by the follow-
ing vote, to-wit; Ayes; Trustees Kniffin, Leonis and Furlong, Noes;
Trustees none, Absent; Trustees Stevens and Durbin, that the Vernon
Wine & Liquor Company be allowed to open for business Saturday morning,
November 9th, 1918, on probation for period of ninety days next
ensuing, with the understanding that at the end of such trial period
it was shown to the satisfaction of the Board of Trustees that the
business was conducted in such manner as would leave no room for
further complaints, then and in such event liquor license to conduct
such business would be restored.
Communication from Southern California Gas Company under date
of October 31st, 1918, in re payment of ~ of receipts ariSing out
of use. operation and possession of franchise granted them, was read
by th~ Ol~~k.-a.nd upon motion of Trustee Kniffin, seconded by Trustee
Leonis and ea.rried, same was referred to City Attorney Chamberlin.
