19190304 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes REGULAR MEETING. A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of Vernon, County of Los Angeles, and State of California, was held on the .4th day of March , 19l 9, at 2 0' clock P. M. of said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said City of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held. There were present at such meeting Trustees, Furlong and F~iffin. There were absent from such meeting Trustee, Leonis, Durbin, Stevens. President Trustee J. J. Furlong presiding. The minutes of the meeting, held on 19l February 18th, 1919, , were: read by the Clerk and upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, were approved. Application of Bristol Taxi Company, dated February 27th, 1919, for taxicab license in the City of Vernon, read by the Clerk. Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, this matter was referred to Committee consisting of Trustees Durbin, Kniffin and Furlong. Application of Vernon Wine & Liquor Company for permit to construct shed for storage purposes, read by the Clerk, and same Was laid over. Application of Pacific American Refining Company for permit to construct new little refinery at southeast corner of Salt Lake Railroad tracks and East 28th street, read by the Clerk, and upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, was referred to a Committee of the whole. Application of A Schultz, dated February 11th, 1919, for permit to conduct restaurant at No. 2326 East Vernon avenue, read by the Clerk, and upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, was referred to Police Department. Application of General Petroleum Corporation for excavation permit to repair their pipe line across Santa Fe avenue, read by the Clerk, and upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, was referred to City Engineer. Cormnunication from Black, Hamrnack & Black, dated Nov. 7th, 1918, relative to securing permission for one of their clients Page 2 - minutes 1.Ieeting March 4th, 1919. to run freight auto stage line between Los .Angeles & Long Beach via Vernon and Huntington Park, read by the Clerk, and upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, Was referred to City Attorney Chamberlin. Fire Insurance policy IJo. 3537196 Horth British & l.Iercantile Insurance Company, for insurance on City Hall and Jail period February 5th, 1919 to February 5th 1922, in the sum of $1800.00 premium $29.70, was accepted by the Board of Trustees, upon motion of Trustee Leonis, seconded by Trustee Durbin and carried by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Leonis, Kniffin, Durbin and Furlong. Hoes: Trustees none. Absent: Trustee Stevens. Application under date of March 4th, of I. H. Hiles and William Jones for permit to conduct junk business in the City of Vernon, read by the Clerk, and was rejested account no location being given. Application of E. R. Bohan & Company under date of March 4th, 1919, for permit to operate varnish factory on Lot 24 Block 11 of H. r,I. Ar.nes Subdivision of Glassell Tract, on E 26th street in the City of Vernon, read by the Clerk, and upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, was referred to a COillITlittee of the Whole. Petition by property owners and Citizens of Vernon, dated received February 26th, 1919, disapproving of dynamiting claimed done by Whiting Ilead Corrunercial Company, read by the Clerk, and upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, was referred to a Committee of one, viz; Trustee P.
