19190318 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes
REGULAR MEETING.
A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of
Vernon, County of Los Angeles, and State of California, was held
on the 18th day of :March , 1919, at 2 0' clock P. M. of
said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said City
of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by
ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held.
There were present at such meeting Trustees, Furlong, Leonis,
and Kniffin.
There were absent from such meeting Trustee, Stevens and Durbin.

191 ,were: read by the Clerk,
and upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, were approved.
Application for excavation permit by Campbell & Ward for sewer
excavation on Vernon avenue about 235 feet East of Santa Fe avenue,
referred to City Engineer Howard McCurdy for report.
Communication from League of California Municipaliti~s, dated
February 27th, 1919, relative to the distribution of funds received
by the State as proceeds from the motor vehicle license. tax, read
by the Clerk, and upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, was
referred to City Attorney Chamberlin at Sacramento with instructions
to do the best he could in the matter.
Application of California Varnish Company, for operating permit,
dated March 4th, 1919, read by the Clerk, and laid over.
Application of Bristol Taxi Company, dated February 27th, 1919,
for taxicab license in the City of Vernon, was denied.
Application of Pacific American Pet. Co., dated January 18th,
1919, for permit to construct building, laid over, to be considered
when application for operating permit and chec}:: accompanying same
as deposit were received.
Application of Bohan & Co., for building permit, read by the
Clerk, and laid over.
All applications before the Board for excavaticn permits,
were laid over.
Applioation of Vernon Wine & Liquor Company for permit to
construct storage shed, laid over.

Communication from 'J:ax Payer's Association of California, dated
March lOth t 1919, asking for cop~r of annual financial report, read
by the Clerkt and ordered filed.
Application of C. J. Harcus, undated, for pool room license at
his rooming house on Santa Fe avenue near 52nd street, read by the
Clerk, and upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, was referred
to a committee of the whole.
i Clerk's financial report on the City of Vernon for month of
February, 1919, read by the Clerk, and referred to the Finance
Comm.ittee.
Upon motion of Trustee Kniffin t seconded. by l1rustee JPul'long,
and carried bit the following vote, Trustee Leonis was appointed tempoJmrY
member of the Finance Cormnittee; in the absence of two members of said
committee, to-Wit, Trustees Stevens and Durbin~
Ayes: Trustees Kniffin, Furlong and Leonis.
Noes: Trustees none.
Absent: Trustees Stevens and Durbin.
Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, A. R. Kuhn was allowed
extra compensation for extra services performed commencing l:Iarch 1st,
1919, in an amount to be determined at next meeting.
The following demands were thereupon presented to the Board for
approval and payment:

and carried by the following vote, to-wit; Ayes; Trustees Leonis,

and Stevens, all of said demands, in the total of $872.97 were
approved and ordered paid.
