19210301 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes REGULAR MEETING. A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of Vernon, County of Los Angeles, and State of California, was held on the 1st day of March, 19121, at 2 o'clock P. M. of said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said City of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by ordinance for ,regular meetings of the said Board to be held. There were present at such meeting Trustees, J.J.Furlong.Leonia.Kn1ffin.Kornadal and Durbin There were absent from such meeting Trustee, lone President Trustee J.J.Furlong presiding. The minutes of the meeting, held on Feb.lst and Feb.19th 192.1 191 , were: read and approTecl Application of Mrs.M.Dumler to erect a dwelling house on Lot 19 of the Be. Vernon Tract in Block a was read and approved. Application of Mrs.Virginia eutro for permission to erect a small cigar and newspaper stand at 49th St. and Santa Fe Ave was referred to the Police Department. Applications for excavation permits by the Southern Calif.Gas Co. at 2420 East 5eth. St .and 5300 Santa Fe Ave .was read and approve.d. Application of E.Rush for a license to conduct a resturant at 520S Santa Fe ATe was read and approTed. Under unfinished business the application of the Atlas Mixed Mortar Co. for a permit to excavate in Lot 3 of the Ross Traet was taken up.The council fOlT,the A:tlaa:'Mixed.Mortar Co.who was present outlined the: situation.He stated that it was not the companys intention to violate any of our ordinances. that he had read our ordinance No.2l4 and under the instructions contained in same had filed said application. He stated that the Atlas Mixed Mortar Co.had leased the property and had gone to expense establishing the business in our city but had neglected to look into the matter of our city ordinances through an oversight unintentually and that it was their intention to abide by the law and live up to all our ordinanees lle asked the Board to report favorably on this permit. The Board then told him that it was their duty to act for the best interests of the property owners and citizens.The council then stated that the property owners had offered no objections to this sand pit. !rustee Durbin then stated that the Board should appoint the City Attorney to intervie. the property owners and obtain a letter from all the owners of property in the vicinity of the pit showing they did not object to said pit being' r-ro.n ~.. Trustees Furlong and H.ornaday however stated that in so far a.s the council for the Atlas M1xed MDrtar Co.had stated that the property owners voiced no objection that the Board would allow the Council for the Atlas Co.to obtain the conaent of the property owners in writing and that the Boat'd would hold a special session on Tuesd~ March, 'Ith 1921 at which session the council would present the consent of the adjacent property owners in writin' and that upon the showing by the council that the property owners hqd no objection to the Atlas Mixed Mortar Co. con- ducting the sand pit that the Board would grant the permit subject to the ordinance No.2l4. The council then thanked the Board and retired stating that he would be present on Tuesday Mar.'1th 1921. An ordinance providing for the licensing and regulating the busines of Private Watch and Patrol Service in the City of Vernon was read for the .. first time. Trustee Durbin brought to the attention of the Board that it would be to the best interests of the City that an ordinance be ordered drafted making it necessary for all public service corporations or others having pipes in or running through any street within the City of Vernon to order. upon & contemplated paving of any street to cause said pipes to be connected to the property line so that the street after once being paved would not be subject to being continually exc&vated.!he Board ordered that the City Attorney be advised to draft such an ordinance.
