19210802 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes
REGULAR MEETING.
A regular meeting ot the Board of Trustees of the City of
Vernon, County of Los Angeles, and State of California, was held
on the 2nd day of August 1921 , 191 , at 2 o'clock P. M. of
said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said City
of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by
ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held.
There were present at such meeting Trustees,
DurbintHornadayandKniffin.
There were absent from such meeting Trustee,
J.J.Furlong and Leonis.
President Trustee Hornaday acting Pro tEpltesiding.
The minutes of the meeting, held on
July 19,1921 and July Z2nd 1921 191, were: Laid over.
A protest against the opening of East 27th Street according to
resolution No.192 was read.No action w~s taken as the protest,
was signed by property owners whose frontage totaled less than
one Block.
The following resolution YJlown uS Resolution No.196 was adopted.
Resolution No.196.
RESOLVED, that the report of the commissioners in the matter
of the o'pening and widening of that certain unnamed public alley as
proposed by Resolution of Intenatdm No .186 and ordered by Resolution
No .189 adopted on the 1st da~r of February 19i.l filed in the office of
the Clerk of the Board of Trustees of the City of Vernon on July 1st
1921,together with the plat accompanying said report,be,and they are
hereby confirmed,ap.proved and adopted;and be it further
RESOLVED, that the Clerk of the Board of Trustees be,and he is
hereby directed to file in the office of the County recorder of Los
.~lgeles County,State of California, a copy of said plat appropriately
desif:;nated, and sai clerk is :nere'by directed to forward to T. W. Garr
who is hereb~l designated,selected o.ud. a1?Pointed to discharge the duties
of Superintendent of Streets,u certified copy of the report,assessment
and plat of said commissioners as hereby confirmed,approved and adopted.

Alameda St. .was granted to Joseph Embree. and Hess Embree.

Application of the Southern California Gas Co. to excavate for service
connections at 2431 Eastb53rd St.and 2.228 East 37th St.was read and
approved.
Resolved.that the objections filed against the improvement of East
Twenty-seventh Street are hereby set for hearing on Tuesday.the 6th
day of September.1921 at the hour of 2:30 oeclock P.M. of said day.
at the City Hall and the clerk is hereby instructed to notify the
persons and corporations making such objections of said hearing.
There being no further business motion was duly madepseconded and
carried that the meeting adjourn.

Application of lTATfl' Brass Foundry for a permit to put a steel tank under
the side walk of Lot 2050 fronting on Vernon Ave for the purpose of
storing crude oil for fuel ~mr~;oses capacipi 2000 gallons was read and
referred to the city engineer for irwBstigation and report.
Permit. of the Sothern California Telephone Co. to exeavate in East
Vernon ~ve for the purpose of laying G conduit for telephone service
was broufht up for the second time. The Board gran,ted the Telephone
Co. permission to make said excavation as per plans submitted providing
said Tele1)hone Co. would place the sum of one thousand dollarswi th the
City of Vernon for the period of two years as a guarantee trust deposit
that the }aving will be placed back in bood condi tiOll and mainaained
in such condition. The Board held that under this deposit other
miscellaneous 1;vork that might arise from time to time might be done
providing that said deposit was not used up before the expiration date
in the patching by the City of work done by the Telephone Co. that said
Telaohone Co. did not attend to of their own violation.
Motion was then duly made seconded and carried that the meeting adjourn
there being no further b~siness.
