19220321 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes REGULAR MEETING. A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of Vernon, County of Los Angeles, and State of califgoni~..was held on the 21st day of March 1922 , 191 , atl,i o'clock P. M. of said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said City of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held. There were present at such meeting Trustees, J.J.Furlong.Iornaday.Kniffin.Durbin. There were absent from such meeting Trustee, J.B.Leonis President Trustee J.J.Furlong presiding. The minutes of the meeting, held on :reb.2.1. March.'lth.March.10'th. 1922 191 , were: read and approved. Application of the South Los Angeles Land &: Water Co. for an excavation permit at oo'th St.and Santa Fe Ave.was read and approved. Applications of th,e Southern Calif.Gas Co'. for excavation permits at 2f>30 Fruitland Road .Frui tland Road east of San'ta Fe Ave. ,and Frui t.land Road between Magnolia Ave . and Downey Road was read and approved. Application of Lillian Losey for a. permit to build a building a't o8t.h St.and Santa Fe Ave.for the purpose of a resturant Was read and approved. . ' Application of August Gehring for a building permit at 0100 Santa Fe Ave making an addition to the present cafeteria of the Boyle Mfg.Co. was read and approved. Applicatio~ of the Southern Calif.Tel.Co. for a permit to set one anchor on the west side of alley east of Pacific Blvd. between o6th and o'lth sts was read and approTed. Application of the Sputhern Calif.Tel.Co. for a permit to lay approx1m.ately 80 feet of 2~ iron pipe on the north side of Vernon Ave.at its junction wi'th. Santa. Fe Ave was read and referred to a commi t'tee for investigation. Application of the Southern'Calif.Tel.Co. for a permit to set 4 36ft.poles on the north side of Vernon Ave east of Santa. Fe Ave was read and referred to a committee to investigate. Letter from the Vernon Commercial Co. wa.s read and ordered filed. .An ordinance grant.ing the Santa :h'e Ry .Co. the right. to lay a spur track across East 2.6th St .at Iobart Station,known as ordinanc.e No .252 was read for the second time. Application of the Uni&ed Dressed Beef Co.for 8. building permit for a packing plant and slaughter house was read and laid over. The Board deemed it proper to investigate this site and to determine how the matter of making the necessary sewer connection at. this point will effect our present. sewer contract with the City of Los Angeles. Application of the Wilshire Oil Co.for a franchise on East 26th st. to lay a pipe line was laid over pending an investigation and report from the City Attorney. Application of the General Petroleum Corp. for a franchise on East 26th st. to lay a pipe line was laid over pending an investigation and report from the City Attorney. I., ,!:) r.... .)>~~ () Page 2 minutes of the meeting of March 21.1922 The City Attorney was instructed to file condemnation proceedings against the various property owners who would not deed to the city the necessary 3 feet in re alley proceedings in the alley between East 37th St and East 38th St.and Ross St.and the alley west of Santa Fe Ave. RESOLUTION NO.214. TIE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF TIE CITY OF VERNON DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:- That the VERNON FEED AIID MILLnfG COMPANY.Situated at No.220G East 37th Street,Vernon,Calif.,be.and it is hereby,granted a permit and franchise to lay and construct,and so long as said company is situated and located at the above address,to maintain and operate,a single three (3) inch pipe line in. und.er and across Ross Street and in and along that certain un-named public alley running easterly and westerly with East Thirty-seventh and East Thirty- eighth Streets from a point said alley 150 feet westerly of the westerly line of said Ross Street to the North-east corner of Lot 10,in Tract .No.G5,as per map recorded in Book 13.page 137,of maps,in the office of the Conaty Recorder of the County of Los Angeles.State of California. The permit and franchise herein and hereby granted is upon the follow- ing express terms and conditions;to wit;- . 1. That said pipe shall be laid not less than one (1) foot underground and in such manner that it will not interfere with any railroad tracks hereto fore or hereafter laid in said alley. 2. That upon the removal of the Vernon Feed and Milling Company from the above add.ress,the permit and franchise herein and hereby granted shall ipso facto cease and determine and any and all rights in and to said pipe-line shall thereupon revert to,and become the property of the City of Vernon. 3. That the grantee herein shall have,and is hereby given,the right,subjeIJ to such regulations as are now or may her~after be in force,to make all necessary eseavations in said alley and street for the construction,maintain- ance and repair of said pipe line. 4. That any and all rights of the City of Vernon in,and to said street and alley,are hereby expressly reserved. b. That the grantee pay to the City of Vernon,during the term of said franchise, the sum of One and 00/100 ($1.00) Dollar annually.the same to be due and payable on the2lst day of March of each and every year.
