19220502 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes REGULAR MEETING. A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of Vernon, County of Los Angeles, and State of Calif8f8baA.I~s held on the 2nd day of May.1922, 191 ,atji o'clock P. M. of said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said City of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held. There were present at such meeting Trustees, J.J.Furlong.Kniffin.Durbin.Iornaday and Leonis. There were absent from such meeting Trustee, Bone President Trustee J.J.Furlong presiding. The minutes of the meeting, held on Apri1.18.1922 191 , were: read and approved. Application of the United Dressed Beef Co. for a building and slaughter house permit was laid over until Monday May.8th.1922 at 9:00 A.M. Application of the ienera.l Petroleum Corp. for a pipe line franchiae on East G6th St. was read and laid over until the next meeting. The following applications of the Southern California Gas Co. for excavatiCIL permits for servace connections was read and approved; 5'71'1 Santa Fe Ave. Santa Fe Ave.south of 57th St. 2646 East 26th St,2146 East 38th St. and on Boyle Ave south of Vernon Ave. Application of the Wilshire Oil Co. for an excavation permit for a sewer oonnection on East 28th St.150 feet east of the Santa Fe RylCo.tracks was read and approved. Application of the Dairymens Feed & Supply Co. for a building permit at 2101 East 38th St.was read and approved. Application of the Dairymens Feed & Supply Co. for a permit to dig a cess- pool at 2101 East 38th St was read and approved. App1ioationof Frank Domeous for a building and slaughterhouse permit at 3030 East Vernon Ave. was read and approved. Application of the Brent Furniture Co. for permission to install a gasoline tank of aao gallon capaoity at their garage 2228 East 37th st. was read and approved subject to regulations by the City Engineer. Application of The Iercules Ga.soline Co. attaching petitions signed by various paopertl owners wis'fl...1ng the closing up and vacating o~ a portion of East 29th St.in the City of Vernon was read and ordered filed. The Iealth Offioer of the City of Vernon referred a draft of an ordinance relative to rabies.to the Board for approval.Said draft of ordinance was referred to the City Attorney for an opinion. The Board of Trustees referred the matter of obtaining a neE intersection button for the corner of East 38th st and Santa Fe Ave. to the City Engineer and the Police Department to have said button installed. Trustee Leonis under the head of new business brought to the attention of the Board of Trustees the existing dangerous curve in East 26th St at the junction of ' Boyle Ave.and reoommeaded that the City Engineer survey the situation and present an opinion and plans as to the most advisable manner in whiob to elim1na~e this present dangerous curve.Trustee Leonia motion was seconded and carried and the Board ordered the City Engineer to review this matter and report on same. RESOLUTION NO.2l7. WIEREAS, It appears to the best interest of the City of Vernon,and to the general welfare of the public at large that the streets generally and commonly known and designated as Pruitland Road,together with that portion known as ~itland Ave.Extention to Fruitland ROad,and a street known as C;ypress Axe.and a street known as Boyle Ave.be made of a uniform. wldth of sixty fee'I, TIEREFORE BE IT RESLOVED BY TIE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF TIE CITY OF VERBOB: that the streets known and designated as Cypress Ave ,Boyle ATe and Frui t- land Road together with that portion known as Fruitland Ave extention be made a uniform. width of stxtyfeet,and the necessary steps be taken by the properly constituted authorities to cause the above named streets to be widened to the _idth of sixty (60) feet. I,Thomas J.Furlong,Clerk of the City of Vernon and ex-officio clerk of the Board of Trustees thereof,do hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of Vernon duly and regularly held on the 2nd day of May ,1922.. c~~~ty of ~ernon. Upon motion being duly made,seconded and carried Mr.S.Iaskins an attorney was retained as special council in the proceedings necessary to present a Bond issue to enable the City of Vernon to install a water system in protection against fire. Motion was then duly made,seconded and carried that Mr.Edward R.Bohn be retained as a special engineer to confer with,advise and check the City Engineer in all matters pretain1ng to the work necessary to the install- ation of the proposed water system as a protection against fire in the City of Vernon. An ordinance being an ordinance regulating the eonveying,hauling,or trans- porting of combustible or non-combustible rubbish into or throughthe City of Vernon except at certain hours and upon certain public streets was read for the first time.
