REGULAR MEETING.
A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of
Vernon, County of Los Angeles, and State of calif8rgbaA.~~s held
on the 16th day of May.1922 , 191 , at .o'clock P. M. of
said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said City
of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by
ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held.
There were present at such meeting Trustees,
Durbin.Kniffin.Hornaday.J.J.Furlong and Leonis.
There were absent from such meeting Trustee,

President Trustee J.J.Furlong presiding.
The minutes of the meeting, held on
May.2nd and May.8th.1922 191 , were: read and approved.
Application of the Southern California Gas Co. for excavation permit
at 2067 East 37th St was read and approved.
Application of Frank: Domecus for a sewer connection excavation permi't
at 3030 E.Vernon Ave was read and approved.
Application of D.P.N.Little for a building permit on Lots 19 & 20 of
Block 1 of the Aldine Square Tract was read and approved.
Application of the Grant Forge Shop for a building permit at 2044 E.
Vernon Ave. Was read and approved.
Application of P.J.Durbin ~or a building permit at the northwest corner
of East Vernon Ave and Boyle Ave. was read and approved.
Application of the United Dressed Beef Co. for a building permit on
the south side of Vernon Ave east of Boyle Ave. was read and laid over.
Letter of J.J.Keller relative to the Board tranting him a leave of
absence for one week begi1lming May.22nd was read and approved.
Letter of the Huntington Land and Improvement Co. relative to placing
So water line on East 25th St. from Alameda st to Santa Fe Ave was read and
referred to the City Engineer.
Letter from the American Legion ~king for permission to allow P.Epstein
to sell fruit ffum a wagon in the afternoons at Vernon and Santa Fe Aves
was read and ordered filed.
Application of the General Petroleum Corp.for a pipe line franchise was
read and laid over.
Application of the Southern Pacific Ry.Co. for a franchise to build a
spur track to connect tee California Dressed Beef Co. was read and
referred to the City Engineer to instruct the Southern Pacificwith referen~
to the plans to be followed to grant said franchise. The ordinance granting
this franchise was read for the first time.
Application o~ the Salt Lake Railroad Co.for a spur track franchise over
Boyle and Magnmlia Aves was read and upon motion duly made,seconded and
carried was referred to the whole board. The Clerk was instructed to
notify the Salt Lake Ry.Co. that a loop line extention service was under
contemplation to take care of all the new industry in that section and the~
fore this application would have to be laid over.
Ordinance No .234 was read for the 2nd time and upon motion duJ.y made,
seconded and carried passed the second reading. Upon motion duly made,
seconded and carried ordinance No.234 passed the 3rd reading.
Ordinance 10.235 upon motion duly made,seconded and carried passed its
second reading.

Ordinance No.235 upon motion duly made.seconded and carried was passed
for the third reading.
Application of the Union Oil Co. for permission to cross Center St.with
a pipe line to serve the Western Pipe & Steel Works was read and approved.
The matter of erecting an archway across East Vernon Ave.where it inter-
sects with Santa Fe Ave. was presented by Trustees Durbin.Upon motion
duly made.seconded and carried Trustee Durbin was granted permission to
erect such an archway providing same would not be any expense to the
City.and providing same was built under the supervision of the City
Engineer.

Report of Dr.L.J.Williams,Health Officer for the month of Apr.15.to.May
15th was read and ordered filed.
Report on the finances of the City of Vernon for the month of April.1922
was read and ordered referred to the finance committee.
The following demands were then read.

All of the above demands in the sum of $1793.55 were read and upon motion
duly made,seconded and carried was ordered paid.
In regards to the matter of Fire prevention the City Engineer stated that
he would have the survey completed by next monday and at that time he
would place the matter before the Board.
On motion of Trustee Leonis.seconded by Trustee Kniffin,the following
resolution and order was adopted by the unanimous vote of the Board:

VJhereas,The Board of Trustees have duly adopted at this meeting
an ordinance No.~36,entitled "An ordinance regulating the collection
conveyance. transportation and dumping of market refuse and rUbbish,and
defining,licensing and fixing the hours of work of scavengers.in the City
of Vernon"; and
~1hereas,said ordinance has been adopted as a measure of public
health and of public safety,as therein reoited,and it is declared in
said ordinance that the same is urgently required for the protection
of the public health and safety of said City;it is
RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF VERllOB: that Thomas V
Cassidy,Esq.,and Louis P.Boardman,Esq..attorneys at lsw.beand they here-
by are retained and employed as attorneys for the City of Vernon i:a
respect to all matters relating to the upholding and enforcement of said
ordinance,or of any ordinance amendatory thereof or supplemental thereto
and they are hereby authorized,as said attorneys.to represent the City
of Vernon in all matters,proceedings or actions that may arise under ot
ensue from the enforoement of said ordinance or ordinances by the City of
Vernon,its lawful officers,agents and employees.

Motion was then duly made.seconded and carried that the meeting adjourn
until Monday May,22nd 1922 at 9:00 A.M. at Which meeting the City
Engineer is to present plans for the contemplated water system.
