REGULAR MEETING.
A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of
Vernon, County of Los Angeles, and state of Calif.oOeia~ YlasAheld
on the 15th day of Augast 1~a9l, at t' 0' clock ,. M. of
said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said City
of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by
ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held.
There were present at such meeting Trustees,
J. J .Furlong,.Kn1ffin,.Durbin,.Leonis.
There were absent from such meeting Trustee,
Hornaday
President Trustee J.J.Furlong presiding.
The minutes of the meeting, held on
July,.15th.19~~ and Aug.~.192& 191, were: read and approved.
Ordinance No.240 received the third reading and upon mot,ien duly made,.
seconded and carried was ordered adopted.
Application of the Los lwgeles Casing Co. was read and upon lIlotion duly-
made by- Trustee Durbin and seconded by Trustee Kniffin and carried said
Los Angeles Casing Co. was granted a perm.i t to conduct the buiiness o:f
manufacturing sausage casings etc. at 3030 East Ternon Ave.
Application of the Western Clay Products Co. for a building permit on
Lot 1 of the Martinez. Tract .as read and laid over for investigation
and report..
Application of Ringling Bros.Circus for a permit to exhibit their circus
at 25th & Santa Fe Ave on Sept.1lth to 14th inclusi-ve was read and upon
motion dul;y made,seconded and carried was referred to the whole Board.
Application of Gus A.Heckler for a permit to conduct an oil station at
the H.E.Cor. of East 38th St and Alameda st was read and approved.
Applications of the Southern Calif Gas Co. for excavation permits at
5000 Paci:fic Blvd. and in East Yernon Ave for 1810 :feet west of Santa
Fe Ave were read and approved.
Application of Y.Hernandez. for a permit to cut the curb for a driveway
at 3833 Santa Fe Ave was read and approved subject to said curb being
cut under the supervision of the City Engineer.
Application of the Vernon Fixture & Cabinet Co. for a permit to build
an addition to their present factory building was read and approved.
Application of Herbert A.Hamm for So building permit at 2:345 East filst st
was read and approved.
Report of Dr.L.J .Vlilliams Health Officer of the City of Vernon for the
period ending Aug.15.l922, was read ~~d ordered filed.
Finiancial Report on the City of Vernon for the month ending July-,3lst
192& was read and ordered referred to the finance committee.
City Engineer McCurdy presented two plans to the Board with rela.tion to
the Curve in East 2ith St ail. Boyle Ave. The present curve being a
very dangerous one the Board is contemplating straightening same out as
much as possible to make travel more safe.Further action was. laid over
until the next meeting as the Bo:c.:..rd upon the aa.j oUJ..'ll1nent (,If this meeting
is going in a body to the above location to gain first.. hand informa.tion
on the ground.

Minutes of the meeting of Aug.15.1922.
With relation to the drain water in the gutter on the west side of
Santa. Fe Ave,a letter from the City HeUth officer enclosing a copy
of a letter he wrote on Aug.7th.1922. to the Southern California Box Co.
giving this firm 10 days to discontinue using our gutters as a drain
for their waste water.was read.The Board referred this matter to the
special Attorney of the City to work out a plan with the Cit.y Clerk to
abate this nuisance. .
T.J.Furlong~City Clerk of the City of Vernon upon motion duly made by
Trustee Leonis and seconded by TrusteeIll1r,b1Lng was appointed as Chief
of Police of the City of Vernon.
