19230220 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes REGULAR MEETING. A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of Vernon, County of Los Angeles, and State of Calii8t8ba, wai held on the 20th day of February, 19~3 , at"'o' clock h M. of said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said City of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held. There were present at such meeting Trustees, J.J.Furlong.Leonis.Kniffin and Durbin. There were absent from such meeting Trustee, H.ornad~ President Trustee J.J.Furlong presiding. The minutes of the meeting, held on Feb.6th 19&3 191 ,were.: read and a.pproved. Under unfinished business the application of the ~mrk Lally Co. for a building permit was brought up.This matter was referred to the City Engineer at the last meeting to confer with the Mark Lally Co.and after they had complied with the building ordinance to grant them a permit. City hngineer McCurdy stated that he had taken the matter up with them and they were at the present time trying to revise their plans to be in form with our ordinance. Applications of the Southern California Gas Co. for axcavation permits at 2118 East 37th St,51st St & Alameda St,Boyle Ave & }'ruitland Roa.d, and Fruitland Roa.d & Santa. Fe Ave,were read and approved. Application of J.L.D.Moore for an excavation permit at the S.E.Cor.of E.Vernon Ave and Santa Fe Ave.for the purpose of a sewer connection was read and approved. Application of the Southwest: Packing Co. for a building permit mn E.VerJII. Vernon Ave.212 feet west of the west line of Boyle Ave.was read and approved. Application of the California 11achinery Co.for a building permit at 5200 Santa Fe Ave. on the rear of the lot for the purpose of covering ma.chin~ wa.s read and approved. Application of Abegg & Reinhold Co. for So permit to raise the roof of their building 6 feet,said building situated a.t ~S33East ~6th St.was read and approved. Application of the American Encaustic Tile Co. for a building permit on Lots 14,16 and 13 Tract 2480 was read and approved. Application of the Pioneer Paper Co. for a building permit on the A.G. Bewton Tract was read and laid over. Application of the Southern California Telephone Co. for a permit to lay underground pipe on the south side of Fruitland Road at Malabar St.was raad and referred to the City Engineer. .A,-;plication of Savas Lopez Jr.for a permit to operate a bus line on Ea.st 26th St. was read and ordered filed. Application of the Wilshire Oil Co. for a permit to run So pipe line on East Z9th St and across Santa ]'e Ave. was read and ordered filed. Financial Report on the City of Vernon for the month of January 1923 was read and referred to the finance committee. Monthly report of the City Health Officer for the month of January.1923 was read and ordered filed. 10 Page ~ minutes of the meeting of Feb.20.1925. Decisions IJo .11646,11047 ,11648 and 116&6 of the State Railway Commiss.ion were read and ordered filed. Letter of the General Petroleum Corp. re.garding leaving the grade of the Santa Fe Ry .Co. at the 37th st .crossing in the sameplace it now is in was read and referred to the City Engineer for report. Application ofL.J . Strachan 1846 V/.41st Drive for a permit to sell sandwiches,sodawa.ter,and candy from an automobile to employees of the va.rious factorys at the noon hour was read a.nd ordered filed. Attorney Utlaey of the flilshire Oil Co. interviewed the Board of Trustes regarding crossing the East 26th st. Bridge with an oil pipe line.The matter was referred to the City Engineer for an investigation with :Mr. Utley and a. report back to the Board. Mr.Cox presented two petitions to the Board,said petitions being t.o ex- clude certain portions of the City of Ver.non on Downey Road near the present Stock Yards from the City of Vernon.These petitions were referre to the City Clerk and City Attorney. Trustee Knilfi'f'in brought the present loading racks to the west of Santa Fe Ave.at 30th St. to the attention of the Board and stated that action should be taken to revoke the permit for said racks.The Board laid this matter o~er for investigation. Ordinance of Intention lIo.258 was reud for the third time.Upon motion duly made,seconded und carried said Ordinance no.2-58 yassed the third reading and was adopted. .
