REGULAR MEETING.
A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of
Vernon, County of Los Angeles, and State of cal~ji~aa, was held
on the 20th day of March 192.3 , 191 , at 'clock t. M. of
said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said City
of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by
ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held.
There were present at such meeting Trustees,
J.J.Furlong.Kniffin.Durbin and Leonis
There were absent from such meeting Trustee,
Iiornaday
President Trustee J.J.Fur10ng presiding.
The minutes of the meeting, held on
March 6th 192.3 191 , were: read and approved.
Letter from the General Petroleum Corp. rela.tive to abandoning the
Loading Racks on the West side of Santa Fe Ave.just north of East 30th
Street.They a.sk for 60 days time to abandon same.The Board filed the
let tar.
Letter from the Grant Forge Shop relative to a suit pending in the
Superior Court over a steam hammer in their plant was referred to the
City Attorney.
Communication of J.J.Keller placing his resignation befure the Board
of Trustees owing to the serious illness of his mother in the east
and the necessity of his going east was read and ordered filed.
Applications of the Southern Californi. Ga.s Co.for permi ts to -excavate
at 2411 Ea.st 30th st . and2.6 11 East G.7th st.wa.s read and approved.
Application of the Union Packing Co.for an excavation permit on East
Vernon Ave.for a sewer connection was read and ordered filed.
Application of the Vernon Packing Co. Mose Foorman.for an excavation peE
mit was read and ordered referred to the City Engineer.
Application of the Roseberg Oil Co .for a permit to excavateo in Downey
Road at the north side of the Santa Fe Ry.Crossing was read and referred
to the City Engineer giving him the power to grant said permit under his
supervision.
Application of the Western Finance Co.for a permit to build a building
on Vernon Ave.near Alameda. St for the purpose of a. lumber yard was read
and referred to Trustee Durbin for investigation.
Application of the Pioneer Paper Co.for a building permit on the A.G.Ne~
ton Tract was.read and approved, subject to ordinance 1243 and approval
of C1ty ~ngineer.
Letter from L.Mertz night police officer asking for a raise in salary
was read and ordered filed.
Letter from the liuntington Land & Improvement Co. was read and referred
to the City Engineer.

An Ordinance granting the Santa ]'e Ry .Co. the right to lay and operate
a Railroad spur track across East 26th St.in the City of Vernon to serve
the Comet Oil Co.was read.Upon motion duly made.seconded and carried
said Ordinance passed the first reci.ding.
Petition was rea. to pave East 51st Street.City Clerk was advised to
write the petitioners to obtain deeds for said street.
Decisions No.11751 and 11770 of the State Railroad Commission was read
and ordered filed.
Monthly report of the finances of the City of Vernon was read and order.
referred to the finance committee.
Repoxt of Dr.L.J .Vlilliarns City Health Officer for the month of February
1923 was read and ordered filed.
Application of the Bo;;-le Mgg.Co. for a permit to huild at 511 Santa Fe
Ave .was read and approved subject to the City Enginee.r checking the
plans and approving the construction.
Resolution of Intention No.242 Was read and upon motion duly mad.e~second
ed and carried was approved.
Ordinance granting the iJilshi re Oil Co.u franchise to lay a pipe line
on East~ 26th St .was read and upon motion duly made, seconded and carried
passed the first reading.
Levy Bros.Box Co .has duly invited the Board of f.2rustees to inspect the
new incinerator they have recently placed on their property and to see
if something cannot be done to get the~/hi ting Mead Commercial Co. to
do likewise.The Board referred this matter to Trustee Durbin .
RESOLUTIon HO .:!.43.
THE BOlll~D OF TRUSTEES OF TIill CITY OF VEillJON DO HJREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS
That permission is hereby granted to the Los lulgeles Railway Co.to lay,
construct,maintain and operate a temporary spur track from their Rail-
way yards along East Vernon Ave.to the Easterly limits of the City of Vm
Vernon,the same being the west line of Boyle Ave. for the purpose of
disposing of certain waste material at a point where the Los ..illgeles
River washed out the highway and adjacent property.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of
Resolution No.243 duly approved and passed at a meeting held on the
20th day of March 1923.
