REGULAR MEETING.
A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of
VernonJ County of Los Angeles, and State of California, was held
on the 17th day of April 192.Z' 191 , at1! 0' clookAll. M. of
said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said city
of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by
ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held.
There were present at such meeting Trustees,
Durbin, Kniffin, T.J.Furlong.
There were absent from such meeting Trustee,
Leonis and Hornaday
President Trustee J. J.Furlong presiding.
The minutes of the meeting , held on
April 12th 1923 191 1 were: read and approved.
Application for a building permit by, A Claapett for the puppose of
manufacturing Store and Office fixtures was read and approved.
Application for a building permit by, Cora M. Smith for a dwelling
was read and approved.
Application for permission to set one 35' pole and one anchor and to
remove one 35' pole at the nOl'theast corner of Santa Fe Ave., and Vernon
was read and approved.
Report of the City Engineer tn regards to the improvements of East 26th
East 27th and East 29th Street was laid over.
Report of Dr. L.J.Williaas, City Health Officer was read and ordered fila
Application for an Excavation permit by the .Jaaeson Oil Co to bore under
East 26th and 27th Street for pipe line ',as read and granted.
Application of the South Los Angeles Land & Water Co., t~ aake an
excavation on the west side of Santa Fe Ave., then running east on the
north side of 26th St.eet, was read and approved.
Letter of Alec Pulos for permission to operate a restaurant on 25th Stret
near the National Brass Foundry.(This applicant now operates a restaurant
on East 25th Street near the westerly City Limits) was read and laid ov~
Building permit of the E.K.Wood Lumber Co., to construct a carpenter
and storage shop was read and laid over.
Building permit of J.J.Doyle, to build an addition to the Doyles Cafe
was read and laid over.
Application for permission to install underground conduit and iron pipe
and to place one .an hole on the west side of Santa Fe Ave.,and on the
north side of Vernon Ave., by the Southern California Telephone Co.,
was read and laid over.
Application for permisSion by the Southern California Telephone Co., to
lay 165' of It" iron pipe at 26th & Santa. Fe Ave. To lay 90' of Itf' iron
pipe al 27th & Santa e Ave.,_To lay 65' of 1&" iron pipe at t..8th &
Santa e Ave., and 125' of ltn of iron pipe at 52nd And Santa Fe Ave..,
was ragd and laid over.
Ordinance granting the Wilshire Oil Co. a franchise to lay a pipe line
on East 26th Street Was read and upon aotion duly made, seconded and nO
carried passed the second reading. .{"

Minutes of the Meeting-April 17th 1923
An ordinance granting the Santa Fe Ry., a frMchise to o)erate a spur tra
track across East ~6th Street to serve the Comet Oil Co., was read and
laid over.
Application for a building permit by the E.K.iiood LUIlber Co., to construct
a dry kiln was read and laid over.
A letter fro. the Burroughs Adding machine Co., to put the City adding
machine under contract for all repairs, was read and laid over.
Application of the Western Fipance Co., for a building permit toconstru~
, a, office and store hj)use on East Vemon Ave., was read and laid over.
An "ordinance callin a special election to be held in the City of Vernon,
" State of California, on the~ I day of May, 1923 and submi ttlililg to the
qualified voters of s~id City,and questioned or proposition of Excouding
from the City limits of the said City of Vernon, certain nUninhabited
Territorylt, was read and upon aotion duly :made passed the first reading.

RESOLUTION NO.241
A R:SOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEEf;J OF THE CITY OF VERNON FIXIlIG 'tHE SALARY
OF THE STREET SUPERINTENDENT)F THE SAID CITY.
WHEREAS.heretofore, ~o wit: on the third day of April, 1923, said Board of
Trustees aJpointed T. J .Furlong as street SUIJerintendent of said City of Vern<n
and,
Whereas, it is the desire of the Board of Trustees to fix the salary
for the said office,
THERE]10RE, BE IT RESOLVED:
Section 1.
That T.J.Furlong's salary as Street SU~int6ndent of the said Citj of
Vernon be and the same is hereby fixed at Seventy-fi~ed Dollars ($75.00)
per month, payable monthly out of the general fund of said City, as full
compensation for all services performed by him as Street Superintendent
of said City,
Section 11.
The City Clerk is hereby directed to certify to the passage of this
Resolution and thereupon the same be in full force and effect from and the
first day of April, 1923.

RESOLUTION NO. 249.
A REs'mLTrc)!~ OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF,; THE CITY OF VERNOl~ ]'L~I:NG THE
COM)};~NSATF'N FOR THE CITY MARSHALL OF THE SAID CITY.
WHEREAS, heretofore,to wit: on the third day of April. 1923, the
Board of trustees of the City of Vernon appointed T.J.Furlong as City Mar
Marshall of the City, and
WHEREAS, the said Board of Trustees are desirous of fixing the
compensation for the said office of the City Marshall of said City,

That T.J.Furlong, as City Marshall of the City, shall receive as
compensationfor the duties of City Marshallof the City a salary of Seventy
- five Dollars ($75.00)per month payable monthly, out of the general fund
of said City as full compensation for all services performed by him as
City Marshall of the City of Vernon.
Section 11'
The City Clerk is hereby directed to certify to the passage of thE
Resolution and thereupon the same shall be in full force and effect froma
and after the first day of April1923.

motion duly made, seconded and carried , were approved and ordered paid.
There being no further basiness, motion was duly made seconded and carria
