REGULAR MEETING.
A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of
Vernon, County of Los Angeles, and State of California, was held
on the 8th day of May , 19~Z , ai~ o'clockJP. M. of
said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said City
of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by
ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held.
There were present at such meeting Trustees
Leonis, Durbin, Kniffin, T.J.FubIong. '
There were absent from such meeting Trustee,
Hornaday
President Trustee J.J .Furlong presiding.
The minutes of the meeting, held on April 18th 1923
191 , were: read.
Application for an excavation permit by, Los Angeles Refining Co.,
was read and referred to the City Engineer.
Application for an excavation permit by, Pioneer Paper Co., was read
and laid over.
Application for an excavation permit by, Jameson Oil Co., was read
and decided that the Cmty of Vernon has no jurisdiction to grant
privileges 1n the river bed under the river.
Application for an excavation permit by the Huntington Land and
Improvement Co, was read and granted.
Application for an excavation permit bt the Southern
at 3801 Santa Fe Ave., was read and granted.
Application for an excavation permit by the Southern
Co., at 5512 Boyle Ave., was read and granted.
Application for an excavation permit by the Southern
Co., at 6000 Boyle Ave., was read and granted.
Applioation for an exoavation permit by the Southern California Gas
Co., at 2140 East 25th Street, was read and granted.
Application for an excavation permit by the Southern California Gas
Co., at 2935 East Vernon Ave., was read and granted.
Application for an excavation permit by the Southern California Gas
Co., at 2140 East 25th Street was read and grahted.
Application of the Southern California Telephone Co., for permission
to set one 36~ and one 451 pole on the north side of Randolph Ave.,
west of Downey Road was read and granted.
Application of the Southern Pacific Railway for the permission to
install an 8" oorrugated iron pipe drain from the gutters on both sides
of East 25th Street was read and referred to the City Engineer.
Application for pwrmission by the Southern California Telephone Co.,
to install underground conduit and iron pipes and to p1aoe one man-
hole on the west side of ianta Fe Ave., and on the north side of
Vernon Ave., was read and referred to the City Engineer.

Application for a building permit by the los Angeles Refining Co., was
read and granted.
Application for a building permit by the Richards Neustadt Construction
Co., for an addition to the Pioneer Roll Paper Plant was read and granted.
Application for a building permit by the Richards Neustadt Construction
Co., for a warehouse on the premises of the Pioneer Roll Paper Co., was
read and granted.
Application for a building permit by the Austin Co., of California for
a factory building on 51st between Alameda and Santa Fe Ave was read and
granted.
Application for a building permit by the Austin Co.,of California for a
factory building on East 26th Street east of Boyle Ave., was read and g
granted.
Application for a building permit by E~i.Hatch on the premises known as
Lot A. tract 678 was read and granted
Application for a building permit by Fred B. Johnston, on the premises
known as part of Lot 1 Huntington Industrial Tract on 25th street, was
read and referred to the City Clerk.
Application for a building permit by Frank Smith on the premises known
as lot 42 Aldine Square tract, East 37th Street was read and referred to
Trustee Durbin.
Application of the Western Finance Co., for a building permit on the
premises knows as 1924 East Vernon Ave., was read and isfaravir.
Application of the E.K.Wood lumber Co., lor a building permit on the
premises known as the C.M.Moore home place, was read and referred to the
City Engineer. .
Application of the Associated Oil Co., for a building permit on the
premises known as Lots l-2-8-9-l0-1l-12-l3-l4-25-26-27-28-29-30-&31.Bloek
E. of the Day Star tract was read and referred to the City Engineer.
Application of the Long Turney Corp., for a building permit on the
premises known as 1920 E. Vernon Ave., was read and granted.
Application of the Vernon Lumber Co., for a building permit on the premises
known as 1935 East Vernon Ave was read and granted.
Application of the Lynch Construction Co., fo.r a building permit on the
premises known as S.t of Lot 48, all of Lot 1/=53, except the s. at feet
of 500 acre tract of fruitland Assn., for a warehouse was raad and
referred to the City Engineer.
Letter from the State Compensation Insurance Fund, for a renewal for
May 7th 1923 to May 7th 1924 was read and approved.
Letter from the Burroughs Adding Machine Co, regarding a contract on the
Citys' adding machine for a year was read and ~aid over.
Letter from Alec Pules, requesting permission to operate a restaurant on
the southerly side of 25th street was refused. Applicant operates a
restaurant at the present time ~. 25th Street near the westerly boundry
of the City of Vernon.

Resolution No. 260
The following Resolution was adopted by the Board of Trustees of the
City of Vernon
Whereas, the. Pioneer Roll Paper Company, a corporation, has conveyed
to the City of Vernon, a municipal corporation, for public purposes
certain properties described in deedsfiled with the City Clerk of
Vernpn California.
WHEREAS, the City of Vernon, grantee therein, accepts the sami.
Now therefore, be it resolved by the Board mf Trustees of the
City of Vernon, that said deeds be,and the same is hereby accepted, and
the Clerk is hereby instructed to reoord the same with the County Reoorder
of Dos Angeles County, California.
I, Thomas J. Fir long , Clerk of the City of Vernon and ex-
officio clerk of the Board of Trustees thereof, do hereby certify that
the foregoing is a trus and correct copy of the Resolution passed by
said Board at a meeting thereof duly and regularly held on the 8th day
of May, 1923.

The following resolution was adopted by the Board of Trustees of the
City of Vernon Oa1ifornia.
Whereas, the Southern ~acific Oompany, a oorporation, has conveyed,
to the Oity of Vernon , certain properties described in deeds filed
with th~ Oity Olerk of the Oity of Vernon, a municipal corporation,
for public purposes.
Wlereas, the Oity of Vernon grantee therein, accepts the same.
Now therefor be it Resolved, by the Board of the Boar.d of Trustees

Vernon City police department was read and referred to the City Marshall.
Report of the City Engineer regarding the improvement of East 26th Street,
paving of East 27th Street and the vacating of East 29th Street was read
and laid over.
Letter or application from Lawrence Mertz for the appointment.of Chief of
Police for the City of Vernon was read and referre d to the Clty Marshall.
Litter or application from H.Draper for a positio~ on ,the Vernon City
police Department, was read and referred to the C1ty NJarshall.
Letter of protest from the following restaurant qwners, Scott & Johnson,
W.J.Gateon, Ed Rush, .Thos. Bain, and Mrs Gertrude Mason regarding the
Box Lunches from the City of Los Angeles to evade th.ir districts was
read and referred to the City Attorney.
An estimate from the Underwood Typewriter Co.,for the overhauling of
the City of Vemons' typewriter was read and approved.
ORD. A letter from Filcher & Cox regarding the possibilities of holding a
263. special election for the purpose of excluding of 24 acres of mninhablied
territory from the present bounda*ies of the City of Vernon, was read
and laid over.
ORD. Ordinance granting the Wilshire Oil Co., the right to lay a pipe line

ORD. Ordinance granting the Santa Fe Railway Co., permission to lay and con-

ORD. Ordinance of the Board of Trustees of the City of Vernon prohibiting

Motion was duly made and seconded that Thomas V. Cassidy be appointed
City Attorney of the City of Vernon.
