REGULAR MEETING.
A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of
Vernon, County of Los Angeles, and State of California, was held
on the 23rl: day of October , 19ta3, at:tiP 0' clock _. M. of
said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said City
of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by
ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held.
There were present at such meeting Trustees,
Kniffin, Leonis, Durbin, & Furlong
There were absent from such meeting Trustee,
Hornaday
President Trustee J.J.Furlong. presiding.
The minutes of the meeting, held on
191 , were:
Building permit of the Southern California Furnitire_Co., to erect a
cotton picking shed on their property at 5111 Santa ie Ave., was
read and granted.
Excavation permit of the Southern California Gas Co., for a gas
connection at 5616 Santa ~e Ave., was read and granted.
Application for permission by the Kingman Manfg., Co., to operate in
the City of Vernon, was read and granted.
. Letter from the Pioneer Paper Co.,agreeing to pay $3500.00 toward the
construction of the 57th Street Sewer, which is the balance due the
City on this work.
Report of the City Engineer on bids regarding the East 27th street
Sewer, the ~ast 26th Street Swwer, the st. Charles Street Sewer, the
paving of East 27th Street and the paving of St.Charles Street, are
high and recommeRds that they be rejected and readvertisei.
ORDINJu~CE Application for a spur track franchise by the Southern
NO. 300.. Pacific Company to cross Vernon Ave.,into the property
of the illiiting Mead Co. ,was read and upon motion duly
made, seconded and carried passed the first reading.
An agreement between the Southern California Edison Co., and the City
of Vernon for the furnishing for street lights in the City of Vernon
was read and approved.. Motion was duly made and seconded instructildg
the President of the ~oard of Trustees and the City Clerk to sign
the said contract.
Motion was mad~ by Durbin, seconded by Kniffin that bids on the East
26th Street Swwer, and paving of 5t~Charles Street be rejected and
proaeedings be abandoned.
Motion was made by Durbin, seconded by Kniffin that a new assessment
district be formed for the paving of St.Charles and Junior Street.

NO. 281.. the contract for the work and improvement of St. Charles
Street Sewerto, Joe Chutuk.
Motion was made by ll1Dmstee<Durbin, seconded by Trustee Kniffin that
the City Clerk be instructed to repair shed on property owned by the
City of Vernon, across from the City Hall for the shelter of automobilffi
in the employ of the City ~f Vernon.
ORDIl~AnCE Application by the Southern iacific Company for a dX:i.ll track
NO. 301.. franchise along Center Ave., was read and upon motion duly
made seconded and carried passed the first reading.
A motion was duly made seconded and carried, instructing the City
Engineer to call for sealed bids on cast iron pipe and fittings fDr the
proposed water works system.
A motion was duly made seconded and carried, instructing the City
Engineer to call for bids for the drilling of a water well for the
proposed water works system.
The Board of Trustees ordered that the Southern Pacific Company be
granted a temporary permit, for a drill track alOl"IQ: Center Ave., to
serve the property of the U.S.Steel Products Co.1 pending the grantirg
of ordinance No. 301.
