REGULAR MEETING.
A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of
Vernon, County of Los Angeles, and State of California, was held
on the 1st day of J~ ' 1914 , at 1.:G 0' clock 1'. M. of
said day at the regular meetIng place of said Board in said City
of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by
ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held.
There were present at such meeting Trustees,
Durbin, Kniffin, LeT7, Leonis & Furlong
There, were absent from such meeting Trustee,
Nene
President Trustee J.J.Furlong presiding.
The minutes of the meeting, held on

This being the day and place t. open bids on the laying of east iron

water pipe, en Santa ~e ATe., East 26th Street, East 38th Street,
West Vernen ATe., East 25th Street, ~he City Clerk was instructed to
open bids.
Bid of the Asbury Truck Company was read as fellows:
In reply to your request for bids, under date of June
18th.1924 t. fUrnish all laber necessary fer the in-
stallation of cast iron water mains, fittings, gate
valves, fire hydrants, etc., in accordance with plans
Nos. 176,177,178,179,185 and the specifications No. 20
in a manner satisfactory to your engineer, we are pleased
te submit the fol10wing:-
1 note in specification 20 under items 11 and 12
it was und~cided as to jusy where the water mamas are to
be laid on certain streets, and I therefore respectfully
submit that we be permitted to install the system covered
by the plans and specifications on a cost plus basis, under
which arrangements the First National ~ank of Vernon would
audit and pay all bills.
The undersigned drawing no money until after the JOB
was completed.
The cost tc yeu would be the actual cost of performing
the work plus 10 percent profit to us. This arrangement would
make it possible fer your Engineer to make any chamges
which might be necessary on account of unforseen obsticals which
were net taken inte consideration when the plans were drawn,
therefor eliminating the neccessity of reaching an agreement
with the contractor on the cost of such changes.
This plan would also give your engineer complete
jurisdictif"n OTer thr job and eliminate any possibilit)',cen-

first reading.
An application for a building permit by C.E.Ioward fer the censtruction
of a sawdust bin was read and upon motion duly made seconded and carried

An application for a building permit by the Levy Bres Box Co., fer the
censtruction of a leading platferm was granted.
An application for a building permit fer the construction ef a meat ceoler
by the Union packing Ce., was granted.
An application for an excavation permit by the So. Ual. Gas Company fer a
service connection at 3374 E. Slauson Ave., was read and granted.
An application fer an excavation permit b~ the Se. Cal. Gas Company fer
service connection at 3501 E. Vernen Ave., was read and granted.

br.ken glass, slag, ashes, amd rqoulding sand en and along East 25th St.,
t. Santa Fe Ave., thence along ~ast 26th Street to the City Limits. This
material is to be used as filling on property owned by the Kmlgartner
Marble Company. was read and reffered to the Police Department.

A letter from J.J.Prevost requesting permission to haul lettuce leaves
in sacks thru' the City of Yernon to Mayweed was read and referred t.
the City Atttrney, fer opinion as to whether it would come in conflict
with ordinance 236 of the City of Yemen.
Application fer a building permit by the Associated Packing Company, for
rebuilding of plant was referred to the City Engineer with pewer to
grant when satisfied that plans are to be complied te.
The City Clerk was instructed to advertise fer bids o~ high pressure fire
hydrants bids te De submitted en July 15th 1924 at 10.A.M.
The Board instructed the City Marshall te have an extra man en duty ever
the Feurth ef July holiday.

An ordinance declaring the intention of the Board o"f Trustees
of. the City of Vernon to .qlose up, vaca1;e and abandon. fQr
public street purposes a portion of E. 51st street, was read
