A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of
Vernon, County of Los Angeles, and State of California, was held
on the 2nd day of September , 19~4, at J@ 0' clock". M. of
said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said City
of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by
ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held.

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Furlong and the following

Application for a. building)ermi t by the ,Jestern Pipe &: Steel Company.
for a new construction at Slauson &; Second street was read and granted.
Application for a bUilding'permit by the Kinmont Manufacturing COIl1pany,
for a pattern shop and storage room at East 55th & Santa Fe Ave, was ref~
ed to the City Engineer.
Application for a. building permit by the united Dressed Beef Company,'
for the construction of a slaughted house on Boyle Ave near Vernon was
read and referred to the City Engiheer.
Application for a building permit by the O.K.&:L.a. Sawdust Company, for
the construction of a storage room for sacks was read and referred to the .
Safe~y Committee.
Application for a bumlding permit by the Griffin Wheel Company, for the
construction of bath and locker room was read and granted.
Application for a building permit by the Kingman Mfg., Company for the
construct ion of a foundry building was read and granted.
Application for a building permit by the P~n-i~erican Petr.Company,for
remodling service station at 26th &; ~anta e Avenue was read and granted.

Application for an excavation permit by the Globe Grain & Milling Company
for the insat~llation of a storage tank ~n their property located on East
51st Street was read and granted,
Ordinance Application for a spur tra.c~ franchise across East Vernon.Ave.,
326 . . . approx. 310' west of Santa Fe Ave., was read and upon mot~on
duly made, seconded and carried passed the first reading.
Application for permission to conduct a slaughteI' house by the ~nited
Dressed Beef Company on East Vernon Ave., was read and upon mot~on duly
made.seconded and carried was granted.
Letter from Litt1e & Robertson Co., ~eyUestirlg permission to oil or place
crushed rock 'on l!.ast 37th Street in ffont of their plant was read and
referred to the City Engineer who Eeebmaended that this work be under
the supervision of the City and also comply with the city specifications.

Application for permission by Mrs Ethel Curling to operate a real estate
office at 2027 East 38th Street was read and referred to Trustees Durbin
and Kniffin.
Letter from the iJanta Ie Railway CompUIl.. y. agreeimg to maintain and keep clear
all culverts upon granting of spur track franchises was read and referred to
the City Attorney.
Letter from the ~vens Parks Lumber Company requesting that ihe Board of Trus~~
to instructthe City Engineer to place a "Tn at the intersection of East 38th St.,
and Ross Streetso that they may make a connection to their fire pro.ection
systemwas read and ordered filed.
Application for an excavation permit by the Southern ~alifornia Gas Company
for a gas connection at 5412-14 Boyle Ave., was read and granted.
Application for an excavation permit "by the SOllthern California Gas Company
for a gas connection at 5650 Al.ameda Street was read and granted.
Resolution

Of the Board of Trustees of the City of Vernon fixing the tax rate
for the year 1924-25. A motion was duly made, seconded and carried
that Resolution 328 be approved and adopted. Ayes: Kniffin,
Durbin, Leonis; Noes none, Absent Levy.
Of the Board of Trustees of the City of Vernon closing up of the
alley running north and south, easterly of Alameda Street and soutl
of East 38th Street, was read and upon motion duly made, seconded
and carried passed the second reading.

The above ordinance, upon motion dlly made, seconeed and carried
was read for the third time and adopted. Ayes: Kniffin, Durbin,
Leonis. Absent Levy: NOBS, none.
Letter from K~M.lsaacs Fire Inspector approving the plans of the General Pet-
roleum Corp., for the f~amite system was received and ordered filed.
Letter from H.H.lsaacs, Fire Inspector stating that the Pioneer Paper Company
claim that they are not effected by Ordinance 307. Mr. Isaacs reports that
~ioneer ~aper Company are subjected to the provisions of Ordinance 307. Mr.
Isaacs was instructed to notify the Pioneer Paper Compapy that they are in
the bounds of said ordinance as stated in Section 1.
Letter from II.H.Isaacs, Fire Inspector stating that the Crescent Refining
Company is not required to install a foam fire protection system, was received
and ordered filed.
Letter from H.R.Isaacs, Fire Inspector approving plans submitted by the
Jameson Oil Company for foam system for fire protection was read and ordered
filed.

ection submitted by the Vernon Oil .,..efining Co., was read and ordered filed.
Letter from H.H.Isaacs, Fire Inspector approving foam system for fire prot-
ection submitted by the Hercules Gasoline Company, was read and ordered filed.
Mr. \i.'i.R .:McGee. addressed the Board, claiming damages on car due to holes in
street. The matter was referred to Committee of the whole.
The City Engineer was .instructed to :submit a report to the Board as to the
cost of repairing of J:.a.st 26th Street.
Application for a building permit by the Finch Chemical Company was read and
granted.

of the City of Vernon.
September 2nd 19~4.
Demand in the sum of Seven Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($7500.00) was
presente~ by Geo Mitchell contractor for the laying of water pipe in the
City of ternon was approved and the City Treasurer instructed to draw a
warrant for same.
A ~otion vias made ?fld seconded that the City purchase a certain piece of
property from the liactory Site Company to be used fo~ City Purposes, and the
funds be takentemporarly from the general fund until funds from Bonds are
received to reimburse general fund.
i>.. motion vms made und seconded that steps be taken to open Alameda Street.
The City Attorney and €lLty:.~Engifteer was instructed to start the necessary
proceedings.
The City Clerk was instructed to return unopened all bids received for the
construction of new City Hall, as the date that bids were to be Ol)ened was
a legal hoildail,(August 26th election day.)
Apl)licati n of R. Wells for permission to sell hose in the City of Vernon
was referred to Trustee Durbin.
Application for permission by the Globe Grain ~ Milling Company to burn
waste building material upon their premises was read and granted providing
due caution is taken to keep fire from spreading and fire to bunned between
7A.M. and 10 A.M.
The City Engineer was instructed to investigate.....the cause of water standing
a.t Jollast 26th Street and Downey Road, <..lon# the Santa Ie Railroad right of way.

The Clerk reported that no protests had been filed a~nst the closing of
East 51st street, as contemplated in Ordinance of Intention !~o. 320
Ord: An Ordinance of the Board of Trustees of the City of Vernon, ordering
327 that a certain portion of East 51st Street in the City of Vernon be
closed up, vacated and abandoned, was read and upon motion duly made,
seconded and carried passed the first reading.
