REGULAR MEETING.

A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of
Vernon, County of Los Angeles, and State of California, was held
on the 7th day of April , 19:e5, atlC2 0' clock .li. M. of
said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said City
of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by
ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held.
There were present at such meeting Trustees,
Furlong, Kniffin, Leonis, Durbin and Levt.
There were absent from such meeting Trustee,

UNFINISIED BUSINESS:
ORD: 352, An ordinance granting a franchise to the Atchison, Topeka and
Santa J:!'e R.R. Co.. for a relocation of its spur track on E. 46th Street
in said City was read in fUll for a second reading.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that ordinance 352 be passed fer
a second reading. Motion carried.
ORD: 352, Ordinance 352 was read for a thirs reading.
It was moved by "ueonis and seconded by Levy that ordinance 352 be adopted.
Motion aarried. -
A communication trom the City of Los Angeles Engineering Dept., was read.
It was moved bt "ueonis and seconded by ~evy that the comLlunication be filed.
Motion carried.
Apolication of the Los Angeles Gas &: Elect., Corp., for a power line fran-
chise was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that the application be filed.
Motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS:
A resolution authorizing the publication of notice of sale of franchise as
referred to in thecomrnunication from the Los Angeles Gas & E ectric Co.,
was read.

It was moved by teonis and seconded by Levy that Resolution 356 be adopted.
Motion carried.
ORD: 353, An ordinance regarding storm drain system as referred to in the
communication from the City Engineers office of the City of Los ~mgeles was
read for a first reading.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that Ordinance 353 be passed
for the ftrst reading. Motion carried.

service station at 38th & Alameda Streets was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by .L1eonis that application be filed and
permit granted. Motion carried.
APPL;._.535, of the Southern Ca ifornia Gas Comp~ny for an excavati n permi t
to make service connections at 1857 East 25th ~treet was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Kniftin that the application be filed
and a permit granted. Motion carried.
APPL: 537, of M.T.Moriarity for an excavation permit for a sewer connection ~
4310 Santa Fe Ave., was read.
It was moved by .L1evy and seconded by Durbin that the application be filed and
permit granted. Motion carried.
APPL: 538, of the South Los Angeles V~ater Company for an excavation permit to
repair service on ~ast 52nd Street was read.
I t was moved by K:liffin and seconded by Durbin that the application be filed
and permit granted. Motion carried.
APP.L: 539, of the South Los Angeles Land & Water Company for an excavation
permit in alley west of Santa Fe Avenue on 37th Street was read.
It was moved by Durbin seconded by .Kniffin that the application be filed and
permit granted. Motion carried.
APPL: 540, for a building permit by J.B.Leonis Inc., for a tire shop to be
located on Lot 21 Block 3 of the Aldine Square Tract was read.
It was moved by Kniffin and secended by .Levy that the application be filed
and permit granted. Motion carried.
lPPL: 504, of the Wilshire Oil Company for an excavation permit for under-
ground storage tank on the prope:cty of the .~lestern Iron & Metal Co., was reaa.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Kniffin that the application be fileda
and permit granted. motion carried.
APPL: 531, for a building permit by Brown & Derry Lumber Co., for the constr-
uction of a storage shed was read.
It was moved by Kniffin and seconded bt Durbin that the application be filed
and permit granted. Motion carried.

It was moved by Durbin and seconaad by ~niffin that the application be filed

APPL: 533, for abuilding ,)ermi t by T.J .Doyle for cha.mging the dressing rooms
of the Vernon Coliseum was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Kniffin that the application be filed
and permit granted. Motion carried.
APPL: 541, for a building permit of the Parker Iron Works for a shed for
automobiles was read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Kniffin that the application be filed
and a permit be granted. Motion carried.
A communication from the Union Oil Company regarding the condition of Santa
Fe Avenue was read.
It was moved by ~eonis and seconded by ~evy that the matter be referred to tre
City Engineer. Motion carriied.
A comLlUnication from the Otate Board of iLealth regarding the extermination
of rats in said City wasc read.

operate their factory for the purpose of manufacturing cotton felt for up-

A communication from the County Auditor of Los Angeles County regarding
maintenance of prisoners sent t1t the County Jail was read.
It Was moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that a. contract be signed with
the County regarding the feeding of prisoners. Motion carried.
A commu.nication from the Cowles-Perrine Organization regarding engineering
for the City of Vernon was read.
It was moved by Leonie and seconded by tniffin that the aommunication be fil~

pumping plant was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Kniffin that the same be filed. Motim

ORD: 354, an ordinance providing sewer regulations for the protection
of the )ublic health am the City of Vernon and particularly to prevent the
propragation and spread of bubonic plague through the medium of rats was
read, for. first reading.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by ~evy that ordinance 354 be passed
for its first reading. Motion carried. ~
ORDINANCE 350, An ordinance regulating billboard,advertising, signboards and
other similar structures for advertising purposes was read for first reading
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that ordinance 355 be passed for
first reading. Motion carried.
At this time the bids were opened for the construction of sewers in the City
of Vernon. The following contractors submitted bids: Joe Chutuk, J.C.Iickey,
Thomas I.averty Com,Jany. Joe Chu tuk being the lowe"St bidder,
It was moved by leonis and seconded by Durbin that all bids be rejected with
the exception of the bid of Joe Ghutuk and the contract for the construction
of the sewers mentioned in said bid be awarded to Joe Chutuk. Motion carried.
At this time the bids were opened fir vatves for the City Water Department.
There being onl~ one bid of the Chapman alve Company, after same b~ing rea~
it Was moved by ~evy and seconded by Durbin that the same be referred to the
the City Engineer for checking and reilort. Motion carried.
It was moved by ~eonis and seconded by Durbin that the City b'mgineer be
iinstructed to repair Slauson Avenue 600 feet east of Boyle Ave. Motion
carried.
It was moved by Durbin seconded by Levy that the city purchase the prop~rty d
descri bed as follows: The north two acres of the west three acre tract ;)2164
located in the City of Vernon, California from Mary I.ss for the sum of
$42.000.00 and that the same be temporarily taken from the general fund and
reimbur..d from the Water Bond Fund. Motion carried.
