REGULAR MEETING.
A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of
Vernon, County of Los Angeles, and State of California, was held
on the 21st day of April , 19125, atle 0' clock.,i,P. M. of
said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said City
of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by
ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held.
There were present at such meeting Trustees,
Furlong, Kniffin, Leonis, Durbin and Levy.
There were absent from such meeting Trustee,
None

UNFINISIED BUSINESS:
ORD:353, An Ordinanee granting a right of way to the City of Los Angeles.
~or Boyle _eights stotE drain was read in full for a second reading.
It was moved by ~eonis, seconded by Durbin that Ordinance #353 be passed
for second reading. Motion carried.
ORD:353, An Ordinance granting the right of way to the City of Los Angeles
for ~oyle .eights storm drain was read for the third reading.
It WaS moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that Ordinance 1353 be adopted.
HEW BUSINESS:
APPL: 532 - of Associated Oil Company for building permit to construct a
barrel clean;ng shed on East ii8th street and Violet AlleY' was read.
It was moved by ~evy, seconded by Durbin that said application be filed and
permit granted. Motion carried.
APPL: 644 - 545 and 54i~ of the Southetn Qalifornia Gas Company for excavat-
ion permits were read.
It Was moved oy ~evy, seconded by.~eonis that the applications be filed and
permits granjed.-Yotion carried. ~
APPL: 547 - of the Vernom Blue Print Co., for a building permit to construot
a mezzanine floor in their building at .,10 Santa Fe Ave., was read.
It was mOTed by Leonis, seconded by Levy that the application be filed and
the permit granted. Motion carried.
APPL: 548 - of the Los Angeles By-Products Company for permission to break
curb for entranoe to garage at 1819 East 25th Street was read.
It WaS moved by ~evy, seconded by Durbin that the application be filed and
the permit granted. Motio. carried.
APPL: 550 - of the Southern ~a1ifornia Telephone Company for permissi~n to
remove one 30 foot pole on the North side of 38th Street and Ross Ave.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Kniffin that the application be filed and
the permit granted. Motion carried.

It was moved by Durbin, seconded by ~eTY that the communication be received

syste. was read.
It was moved by Kniffin, seconded by Durbin that the same be filed.

Co~unication f~om the,;Union Iron Works regarding the condition of the
gutter in front of their plant Was read.

City Engineer for action. Motion car~ied.
Co~unication from the Pacific Ready-cut Iomes regarding connections
to water system was read.
It was moved by levy, seconded by Kniffin that the same be filed. Motion -=

Communication from It.M.Miller regarding josition as Water Works Supt.,
was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Kniffin that the same be filed. Motion
ca.rried.
Communication from Victor S. Pretionis regarding position as Fireman was
read.
It was moved by Kniffin, seconded by Durbin that the same be filed. Motion
earried.
Communication from Frank F. ~eterson regarding position as janitor in the
new City -all was read.
It was moved 'by Kniffin, seconded by Durbin that the same be filed.
Motion ca.rried.
Communica,tion from .Bert M. Tibbet, Jr., regarding position a.s Fire Chief
was read. .
It was moved by Kniffin, seconded by DurDin that the same be filed.
Motion carried.
Communieation from Joseph G. Dormer for permit to open lunch counter at
2374 East 38th Street was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Kniffin that the same be referred to
the Police Department. Motion carried.
Communication from the State Compensation Insurance Fund regarding ins-
urance on volunteer fireman was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded oy Levy that the same be filed. Motion
earried.

It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin that the resolution be adopted.
Motion carried.
RESO. 367 - was present.ed to. ~he Board of, Trustees, it was moved by
Durbin, seconded by Levy the L\esollltion1J= 357 be laid over until April 28th
1925, 10: A.M. Motion carried.
ORD: 364,- An Ordinance regulating the extermination of rats in the City
was read, for second reading.
It was Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin that Ordinance No. 364 be passed
for second reading. Motion carried.
ORD: 36!L- was read for a third and final reading.
It was moved by Durbin seconded by ~evy that Ordinance ff 364 be adopted. Motwn
carried.
ORD: 366,- was read for second reading.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy that Ordinance ff 355 be laid over
until the next regular meeting. Motion carried.
At this time the committee pf the whole reported upon the purchase of pipe
for the city, and recommended that all bids be rejected, with the exception of
the Pacific Pipe & Supply Company, and they be awarded the contract for furn-
ishing the pipe to the City.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Kniffin that the peport of the committee be
received and that all bids be rejected with the exception of the bid of the
.?f,lcific Pipe &; Su..plll Company and they be awarded the contract for furnishing
the pipe to the city, and that the time of delivery to the city of said pipe
be in accordance with communication dated April 17th 1926. Motion carried.
At this time the committee further reported the purchasing of valves for the
city and recommended that the Chapman Valve Mfg., Co., be awarded the contrac~
It was moved by Levy, seconded by niffin that all bids be rejected on valves
with the exception of the bid of t~e Chapman Valve Mfg., Co., and that they
be awarded the contract for the furnishing of valves at the price named in
their bid. Motion carried.
At this time the bids were opened for construction of the sewers in District
#4. The following bids were received; V. Callan,$36,600. F.C.Barrett,$3l,800.
and Joe Chutuk $24,2li.80
At this time the engineer repcrted that Joe Chutuk was the lowest responsible
bidder and recommended that the contract be awarded him.
It was moved by leonis, seconded by ~evy that all bids for the construction
of sewers in Unit f4 be rejected except that of Joe Chutuk, and that he be
awarded the contract. Motion carried.
The following demands were then read: uemands on the construction fund $i87l.~
Demands on the General Fund ~:i621.3i and on the Trust 1!1m1l $ 89.00
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Kniffin that the demands be allowed and the
warrants drawn covering the same from the respective funds. Motion carried.
It was moved oy Levy, seconded by Durbin that the meeting adjourn until April
28, 1925 at 10'oc1ock A.M. Motion carried.

APPL: 528, of the Wilshire Oil Company for a building permit to construct
an office building, same being O.K.'d by the City Enginee r.
It was moved by Levy and seconded by Aniffin that the application be filed am
permit granted.
ORD: 361, an ordinance providing for the issuing of $456~000. Vater Works
Improvement Bonds, and ~16,000. Fire Alarm Improvement Bonds of the City
of Vernon, was read in full for second reading.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that ordinance 351 be passed for
second reading. Motion carried.
ORD: 351, was read for third reading.
It was moved by~~eonis and sec onded by Kniffin that ordinance 351 be adopted
Motion carri,ed by the following vote; Ayes Messrs, Furlong, Kniffin, Leonis,
Durbin and Levy. Noes; none. Absent; none.
RESO: 355, a resolution of the Board of Trustees of the City of Vernon auth-
orizing the City Clerk to advertise the sale of bonds mentioned in ordinance
351, was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by ~evy that Resolution 355 be adopted.
Motion carried. ~
~PL: 624,525h526 and 527,of the Southern California Gas Company were read,
same having t e approval of the City Engineer.
It was moved by leonis and seconded by ~evy that these applications be fileda
and permits granted. Motion carried. '
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by ~eonis that the meeting ad~oum until
March 25,1926 at 10:A.M. Motion carried.
