REGULAR MEETING.

A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of
Vernon, County of Los Angeles, and State of California, was held
on the 2nd day of June , 19~6 , at to:>' clock Pa M. of
said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said City
of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by
ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held.
There were present at such meeting Trustees,
Furlong, Leonis, Durbin and Levy.
There were absent from such meeting Trustee,
Kniffin.
President Trustee J . J .Furlong
presiding.
The minutes of the meeting, held on
May 21st 19~6, were: read.
Moved by DQrbin, seconded by ~eonis that the minutes be approved as read.
Motion carried.
Communication from the Gardner Payne Company in reference to furnishing
lineoleum in the new municipal building was read.
Moved by Levy, secondod by Durbin that the same be filed. Motion carried.
ORD:No.355, An Ordinance regulating billboards in the City of Vernon was
presented for third reading.
Moved bJ Levy, seconded by Durbin that same be laid over. Motion carried.
Bid from the Los Angeles Gas & Electric Company for a franchise to erect
and maintain a system of wires and conduits for transmitting electric
energy through the City of Vernon was read.
Moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy that the bid of the Los Angeles Gas &
Electric Company be accepted and upon the filing of the bid by the bidder
the Cijy Attorney be instructed to draw an Ordinance granting the
franchise. Motion carried.
Bid of J.D.Sherer & Son to install a concrete walk in frout of the new
municipal building was read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by ~evy that the bid be accepted and the contra
ct be awarded to J.D.Sherer &~Son. Motion carried.
Application for position on the Fire Department 'by Carl Odenwalder was
rea.d.
Moved by J..eonis, seconded by Durbin that baDle be filed. Motion carried.
Applicatio~ of Frank Flories for perm ission to open and operate an
Italian restaurant at 2000 East Vernon ave., was read.
Foved by Leonis, semo~dE:d by Durbin that the application be referred to
the Police Committee for investigation and report. Alotion carried.
Application for permission to burn dry grass and weeds along the right of
way between Vernon & Slauson by the Southern Pacific Railway was read.
Moved by Leon~s.seconded by ~evy that the a~plication be filed and p~rmit
granted~,provldlng the same was done under ~ne supervision of the20l1ce
Department. Motion carried.
Aiplication of Harvey Hicks for position on the I!'ire .iJepartrrrent was read.

A map was submitted by the County Surveyor of Tract 8181 for the approval
of the Board.of Trustees~
Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that the smne be referred to the City
Engineer for investigat~on and report. Motion carried.
Report of K.M.Isaacs on the foamite system at the VIilshire Oil Company was
read. .
Moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy that the same be filed. Motioh carried.
RESO:No. 370, A Resolution abandoning proceedings on Santa Fe Avenue owing
to an error in the printed notice was read.
Moved b~ Leonis, seconded by Levy that Resolution No. 380 be adopted.
Motion carried.
RES: No. 371, A Resolution ordering certain work done on Santa Fe Avenue
was read.
Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that Resolution No. 371 be adopted.
Motion carried.
It was moved by ~eonis, seconded by ~evy that the City Clerk be instructed
to advertise for' bids for hose in the following amounts: 2500feet of 2t
inch hose, 600 feet of 1t inch hose, said hose to be advertised as per ..
City of Vernon specifications.
"RnililinJ2: permits Nos. 571. 572. 574. 678. 579 and 558 were read.
Moved by Durbin, secohded by ~evy that the applications be filed and
permits granted. Motion carried.
Demands in the sum of $1044.10 on the General Fund, $140i.25 on the
Water Boner Fund No.1, $13866.25 on the Sewer Bond Pund No. 1 and $43328.CD
on the Water Fund No.2 were read.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin that the demands b e allowed and the
warrants drawn on the re~)pective funds. :Motion carried.
