REGULAR MEETING
A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of
Vernon, County of Los Angeles, and State of California, was held
on the 28th day of July ,1925 , at~Oo'cIOCk~: M. of
said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said City
of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by
ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held.
There were present at such meeting Trustees,
Durbin, Furlong and Leonis
There were absent from such meeting Trustee,
Levy and Kniffin.
President Trustee J.J.Fur1ong presiding.
The minutes of the meeting, held on
J~l~ 14th and 21st
1925 , were: laid over.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the minutes of the
meetings of July 7th, 14th and 21st be laid over until the next
regu~ar meeting. Motion carried.
ORDINAIWE NO. 357; an ordinance granting the Southern Pacific Company a
spur track franchise on Audrey Street was read.
Moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the same be
laid over for the City Engineer to make a report thereon. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 361; an ordinance granting a power line franchise to the Los
Angeles Gas & Electric Company wa,s read.
The City Attorney reported that the Attorney for the Los
Angeles Gas & Electric Company desires some changes in the phraseology of the
ordinance. It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the same be laid
over, Motion carried.
APFLICA'11ION of the Souther'n Pacific Corrlpany for an automatic block signal
to be licated on East 25th Street and Ala~eda Street was read.
The City Engineer reported favorably on said application and
recommended that the permit be granted.ijoved by ~eonis and seconded by
Durbin that the request of ,the City Engineer be complied with and a permit
be issued to the Southern Pacific Company. Motion carried.

Application bW the Southern Pacific Company for a 150 ton scale at 48th and
Alameda Streets was read.
Moved by Durbin and seconded by leonis that the matter be refer
red to the City Engineer for investigation and report. Motion carried.
Communication from Gottschar & Edelstine was read. Moved by Durbin seconded b7
Leonis that the same be filed. Motion carried.
Commrulication from the Mctaughlin ~lass Company regarding water connection to
the municipal water system was read. Moved by Leonis and seeonded by Durbin that
same be filed. Motion aarried.
Communication from the Madsen Iron Borks regarding city license was read.
Moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the same be referred to the
City Attorney. Motion carried.
Application of 1mrguerite Hanson for position as stenographer in the new
municipal building was read.
Moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that same be filed.
Motion carried.
Report of the State Board of Health was read. Moved by Durbin and seconded
by Leonis that same be filed. Motion carried.
A petitionbsubmitted by Brombacher Iron Works and others for the opening of
Magnolia Avenue from Fruitland Road to Slauson Avenue was read.

and City Attorney for investigation and report. Motion carried.
APPLICATION NO. ~04; of the South Los Angeles Water Company for permit for
service connection was read. same having the approval of the City Engineer.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded b~ Durbinnthat
same be granted. Motion carried.
APPLICATION NO. 606; Submitted by K.&.M.Pottery for a building permit was
:eead. same having the approval of the City Engineer.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that same
be granted. Motion carried.
APPLICA'I'ION NO. 601; submitted by the Southern California 'J':e1ephone Company
for permission to place two 35' poles on the south side of Pacific Blvd., west
of Santa Fe Avenue was read, same l1aving the approval of the City Engineer.
Moved by Leonis and secondednby Durbin that same be granted.

APPLICATION NO. 608; submitted by the Sou.thern va1ifornia Gas Company for a permit
to repair service at 3301 E. Vernon Avenue was read, same having the approval
of the City Engineer. It was Dloved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that permit
be granted. Motion carried.
APFLICA'I'ION NO. 609; submi [,ed by Southern California Telephone Company for
permission to place 100' of 2-!" iron pipe on the south side of Pacific Blvd.,
east of Santa Fe Ave., to furnish telephone service to Mechanical Pettern
Works was read, same having the approval of the City Engineer.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that same
be granted. Motion carried.
APPLICATION NO. 610; submitted by J. de la Torre for a permit to build addition
on his property was read, same having the approval of the CiEy Engineer.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by eonis that same
be gran~ed. Motion carried.
APPLICATION NO. 611; submitted by the Southern California Gas Compamy to lay
service main on Pacific Blvd, east of Santa f'eii.venue was read.
Moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that same be
referred tothe City Engineer for investigation and report. Motion carried.
APPLICATION NO. 612; submitted by Southern California Gas Company to repair
service on south side of Vernon Ave., 935' east of Boyle Avenue was read,
same having the approval of the City Engineer.
Moved by Dl~bin and seconded by Leonis that same be
gran~ed. Motion carried.
ComrJ1unication from the Vernon and Southeastern Industr.ies Ass'n was read.
Moved by Durbin and seconded by teonis that same be
filed. Motion carried.
At this time bids on the furniture and opera chairs were presented to the
Board of discussmon.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that all
bids be rejected and the City Clerk be instructed to return all certified
checks filed 'with bids. Motion carried
It vms moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that Architect Richard D. King
be instructed to submit to the Board, specifications for furniture to be us~
in the City Hall for their approval. Motion carried.
Moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the City Attorney be instructed
to prepare notice for bids for thepatching of the City streets. Motion carried.
Moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the City Engineer be instructed to
have Alameda Street open temporarily to Slauson Avenue so as to have an outlet
for traffic during the repairing of Santa Fe Avenue. Motion carried.

Moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the CityEngineer be insDnut5ad
instructed to prepare specifications and plans for the fence to surround
the city property and tIle City Attorney be instructed to draw notice inviting
bids for the erection of same. Motion carried.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by teonis th~ the City Engineer be
instructed to prepare plans, specificatIons and profiles for the grading of
the city property for the use of a spur track. Motion carried.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the Police Department
of the City of vernon notify the manufacturers a10nf west Vernon Avenue
between Santa Fe and Alameda streets to remove all cars from said streets
between eight o'clock in the morning and six o'clock in the evening.

The reI.>ort of the Fire Chief at this time was read. It woo moved by Leonis
and seconded by Burbin that the report be filed and the recommendations theEB
in set up be concurred in. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 362; an ordinance phrobiting the us~ of fire hydrants b~
private persons without a permit from the City of vernon be read.
Moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that Ordinance No.
362 be passed for first reading. Motion carried.
OP~INANCE NO. 363; an ordinance prohibiting the parking of automobiles on
West Vernmn Avenue between Santa Fe Avenue and Alameda Street, between
the hours of eight o'Clock A.M. and six o'clock P.M. was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that
Ordinance No. 363 be passed for first reading. Motion carried.
r.'.ORDINANCE .NO. 364; An ordina,l,1""ce changingmthe p1acepf meeting of the
Board of Trustees from 38th & Irving Streei to New City l~ll at 4305
Santa Fe Avenue near Vernon Avenue on and after Aug~st 18th, was read
for first reading. Moved by lJurbin and seconded by eonis that Ordinance
No.364 be passed for first reading. Motion carried.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the Fire Chief be
instructed to bu~ an additional 750' of hose at the same price that the contract
was let for if the same could be done.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the City
Engineer be instructed to buy the furniture that was needed in his office
temporarily, not to exceed $150.00. Motion carried.
Moved by ~eonisLand seconded bu Durbin that the CityEngineer be instructed
to p~epare a list of machinery and tools that will bu necessary to create
a Street Department in the City of Vernon. Motion carried
