REGULAR MEETING
A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of
Vernon, County of Los Angeles, and State of California, was held
on the 4th day of August , 19 2 5, a(-~ 0' clock1F. M. of
said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said City
of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by
ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held.
There were present at such meeting Trustees,
Durbin, }llrlong, Levy and Leonis
There were absent from such meeting Trustee,
Kniffin on account of illness
President Trustee J.J.Furlong presiding.

The minutes of the meeting of July 28th were read. It was moved bit Leonis
seconded by Levy that the minutes be approved as co~rected, said correction
being that no hose shall be purchased in excess of $300.00 at anyone time.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
ORDINANCE NO. 357; an ordinance granting the Southern Pacific Company
a spur track franchise on Audrey Street was presented to the Board.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that same be referred to the
City Engineer. Motion c~rried.
OEDINANCE NO. 361; an ordinance granting a franchise to the Los Angeles
Gas & Electric Company was read.
Moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that same be laid over. Motion carried.
,ORDINANCE NO. 362; an ordinance prohibiting the use of fire hydrants by
private persons without a permit from the City of Vernon was read in full for
a second reading.
Moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that Ordinance No. 368 be passed for
second reading. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 362; was read for a third and final reading.
Moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that Ordinance No. 362 be adopted.
Motion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 363; an ordinace prohibiting the parking of automobiles
ti~Ofi Vernon Avenue between Santa Fe and Alameda Streets between the
hours of eight A.M. and six P.M. was read in full for second reading.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that Ordinance No. 363
be passed for second reading. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 363; vms read for a third and final reading.
Moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that Ordinance No. 363 be adopted.
Motion carried.
(ORDINANCE IfO. 364; an ordinance ehanging the place of meeting of the
Board of Trustees from 38th and Irving Streets to the new City Hall on
the vvest side of Santa Fe Avenue near Vernon Avenue on and sfter
August 18th was read in full for a second re ading.
Moved by Durbin and seconded by tevy that Ordinance No. 364 be passed
for second reading. Motion carried.

APPLICA'l'ION NO. 611; of the Southern ealifornia Gas Company to lay gas
main on Pacific Blvd., east of Santa Fe Railroad was read.
Moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that same be laid over for a report
of the City Engineer. Motion carried.
APPLICA'rION NO. 614; of the Wl:11shire Oil Company for permission to
construct a storage building was read.
Moved by Durbin and xeconded by Levy that same be laid over for a report
of the City Engineer. Ivlotion carried.
APF'LICNrION NO. 616; of the Southern California Telephone GTompany for
permission to replace four 35' poles on the east side of Boyle Avenue
between Slauson Aveneu and Randolph Street was read.
Moved by Levy and seconded by ~eonis that the applicanton be filed and
permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from the Soutllern California Safe Co., regarding small office
safe V!aS read.
Moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that the same be laid over. Motion
carried.
Communication from the SoutheT'n Calif:'oI'nia hleat Company regarding the
installation of a fire hydrant in front of their place of business was
read.
Moved by Leonis and seconded. by Durbin that same be referred to the City
Engineer. Motion carried.
Communication from the State Board of Health was read.
Moved by ~eonis and seconded by Durbin that smne be filed. Motion carried.

Moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that same be referred. to the City
Attorney. Motion carried.
Map of Tract 8771 Vias pre sented b"y the Ci t-;T Engineer, same hai ving hms
approval and requesting the Board. of Trustees to approve same.
Moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the map of tract No. 8'/71
be approved. Motion carried.
APPLICA'IIION NO. 618; of the Santa Fe Railway Company was read, same having
the approval of the City Engineer.
Moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that the application be filed and
permit be granted.
Communication from the Parker Iron Works vms read.
Moved "by Leonis and seconded by Levy that same be referred to the Police
Department. Mo@ion carried.
Report of the Fire Chief was read.
Moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that same be filed. Mot on carried.

A.t tIlis time the bids for the paving of Santa Fe Avenue were opened,
bids being from the following companies.

Moved by Durbin and seconded be Levy that all the bids be received to the
City Engineer for checking and report at an adjourned meeting to be held
at two otclock this date. Motion carried.
At this tfume the bids on the fire alarm system were read, bids were
received from the Brown & Perulgilly Inc., and the Gamewell Fire A;arm
Corp.
Moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that same be referred to the City
Engineer for checking and report. Motion carried.
At tIlis time bids for the construction of sewers in the City of Vernon were
read. Bids received from Joe CllutW{, for the construction of the Northwest
Sewer.
Moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that bid be referred to the City Engineer
for checl<::ing and report. lilotion carried.
At this time bids v:rcre opened for tb.e planting of trees and shrubs around
the new city hall. Bids received from Service Nurser:;z, Norris & Son and
Theo. Payne. It ' ac; :.~oved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that bids be re-
ferred to the City Engineer for checl:::ing and report.' Motion carried.

At this time Mr. Levy brought up the matter in referedce to a fence being
built on 38th Str~et by the stanton Lumber Co.,
