REGULAR MEETING
A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of
Vernon, County of Los Angeles, and State of California, was held
on the 11th day of August , 1925 ,atli 0' clock i~ M. of
said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said City
of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by
ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held.
There were present at such meeting Trustees,
Durbin, Furlong, Levy and Leonis.
There were absent from such meeting Trustee,
Kniffin on account of illness
President Trustee J.J . Furlong presiding.

ORDINACE NO. 357; an ordinance gr~nting the Southern Pacific Company
a spur track franchise on Audrey utreet was read to the Board for a
second reading. The City Engineer asked for more time to report on same.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that the Engineer be
given more time to report upon saod ordinance. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 358; an ordinance granting the Santa Fe Railway Co.,
a franchise for a main track across Jaboneria Road ~as read in full
for a first reading.
Moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that Ordinance No. 358 be passed
for its first reading. Motion carried.
BRDINANCE NO. 361; an ordinance granting a power line franchise to the
Los Angeles Gas & Electric Company was presented to the Board, for a second
reading.
Moved by Durbin seconded by Levy that Ordinance No. 361 be laid over for
a second reading.
Application of the Union Oil Company for a pipe line franchise in the
City of Vernon was read.
Moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that said application be referred
back to the Union Oil Company and they be requested to amend said
application so that all pipe crossings the river at 26th Street be laid
underneath the river. Motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS:
APPLICATION NO. 611; of the Southern California Gas Company for a gas
main on Pacific Blvd., east of Santa Fe tracks having the approval of
the City Engineer was read.
Moved by Levy and seconded by ~eonis that application be filed and permit
granted. Motion carried.
APPLICATION NO. 619; of the Southern California Telephone Company, to
move an underground conduit now located on 55th Street in the alley east
of Santa Fe Avenue was read. Same having the approval of the City
Engineer.
Moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the application be filed
and permit granted. Motion carried.

APPLICATION NO. 620; of the Southern California Telephone Company to place
approximately 85' of 3" creosoted wood duct at the intersection of Slauson
and Boyle Avenue was read.
Moved by Leonis and seconded by ~evy that application be filed ~d permit granted.
Motion carried. ~
APPLICA'llION NO. 621; of the United Dressed Beef Company for a building permit
same not having the approval of the City Engineer, was read.
Moved by Durbin and seconded by ~evy that the same be referred to the City
Engineerfor report. Motion carried.
APPLICA'rION NO. 622; of the Metals Refining Company to cross ~st 25th Street
with a 2" drain line was read.
Moved by Durbin seconded by Levy that said application be denied and the City
Attorney be instructed to write tllese people that the City of Vernon will not
grant a permit owing to the fact that the City of Los Angeles are contemplating
improving Alameda Str.eet west of the U.P.tracks. Motion carried.
APPLICATION NO. 623; of the Los Angeles Gas and Electric Co., for &Egas main
on Alameda Street at the intersection of a private street opposite ast 25fh
Street was read., same having the approval of the City Engineer.
Moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that application be filed and permit
granted. Motion carried.
Quotation from the American La France Company on Fire equiptment and supplies
were read.
Moved by Leonis an,B seconded by Levy that the quotations be referred to the
Chief of the Fire epartment for investigation and report at the next regular
meeting. Motion carried.
At this time Mr. Spaulding of the City of Los Angeles presented two contracts
for the signature of the President of the Board of Trustees and the Secretary,
same having been read, it was moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that both
contracts be signed an~ the contract referring to the incinerator be not
delivered to the Ci~J of Los Angeles until the contract heretofore entered into
and th~ supplementary contract be returned to the Uity of temon, both signed
by the proper officers of the City of Los Angeles, and if ~he same is not
not signed and returned within a reasonable time, the contracts for the
incinerator be cancelled. Motion carried.
The reportof the Fire Chief was then read.
Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the same be filed. Motion carried.
At this time the City E;ngineer recommended that the sewer bid on the 25th Street
Sewer be accepted. Moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis that the recommendation
of the City Engineer be complied with and the contract be entered into between
the City of Vernon anf J~e Chutuk for the construction of said sewer at the
price named in his bid . 'Motion carried.
1he City Engineer asked further 'time to report on the fire alarm bids.
Moved by Durbin and seconded by ~evy that the fire alarm bids be laid over until
the next regular meeting. Motion-carried.
