19250827 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes REGULAR MEETING A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of Vernon, County of Los Angeles, and State of California, was held on the 27th day of August , 1925 , at10 0' clock I. M. of said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said City of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held. There were present at such meeting Trustees, Leonis, Durbin,Levy and Furlong There were absent from such meeting Trustee, Kniffin on account of illness President Trustee J.J . Furlong presiding. The minutes of the meeting, held on 19 ,were: The minutes of the previous meetings were laid over. ORDANANCE No. 367; an ordinance changing the time of meeting of the Board of Trustees was read for the first reading. Moved by Levy and seconded by Leonis that Ordinance No. 367 be passed for the first reading. Motion carried. ORDINANCE No. 368; an ordinance granting to S.M.Haskins and his assigns a franchise in the City of Vernon was read. Moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that Ordinance No. 368 be passed for the first reading. Motion carried. It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Lev~ that the City Engineer and the City Attorney be ins~ructed to secure a deed for a thirty foot right of way on the Moore Home place. Motion carried. It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that the City Engineer prepare specifications for street machinery,for ditch digging and for a fence around the City Hall grounds, and the City Clerk be instructed to advertise for bids for same, to be opened September 8th 1925. Motion carried. At this time the City En~ineer requested permission to buy for immediate use 186 feet of conduit and $55.00 worth of fittings for the pump. Moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that power be granted to purchase same. Motion carried. The ~eport of the Fire Chief was read. Moved by Levy and secondec by Leonis that same be filed. Motion carried. Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that all bids for landscaping be rejected and checks returned. Motion carried. Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the opera chairs No. 412. of the Heywood, Wakefmeld Company be accepted and an order be given to them fornthe furnishing of same. Motion carried. At this time the City Attorney reported that in his opinion the bid of the Curtis Paving Company was legally vorrect. Moved by Leonis and seconded by Levy that all bids for tbie paving of Santa Fe Avenue be left over until 8 o'clock P.M. Motion carried. I Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that this meeting adjourn until 8 o'clock P.M. This being the time set for the Board 0 IJlrustees to meet and award the cont;ract for the paving of Santa Fe Avenue; it was moved by Levy and seconded by Leonis that all bids for the paving of Santa Fe Avenue be rejected except the bid of the Curtis Paving Co., and that the Curtis Paving Company be awarded the contract. Motion carried. RESOLUTION No. 384; a reolution awarding the contract for the paving of Santa re Avenue to the Geo. R. Curtis Paving Co., Inc., was read. Moved by Levy and seconded by Leonis that Resolution No. 384 be adopted. Motion carried. Moved by Levy and seconded by Leonis that the meeting adjourn. Motion caried. ORDINANCE NO. ; being an Ordinance granting a pipe line franchise to the United Oil Company, was presented for a second reading. . Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that same be laid over. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 357 ; being an ordinance granting a drill track franchise to the Southern Pacific Company on Audrey Street was presented for. third readi Moved by Durbin and seconded by ~eonis that same be laid over until September 14th 1925, for report from City Engineer. Motion carried. APPLICATION NO. 582; being an application for a building permit presented by Bradstreet Miller was read. Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the application be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. APPLICATION NO. 634; being an application by Brown & Derry Lumber Co., for a pe permit to build a lumber shed at 2055 East 51st Street was read. Moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that application be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. APPLICATION NO. 635; being an application by Sam Oskey for a permit to build a garage at 4412 Hawthorne Streot was read. Moved by Leonis and seconded by ~evy that application be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. APPLICATION NO. 636; being an application of the Southern valifornia Gas Company to repair service at 3601 East 26th Street was read. Moved by Leonis an: seconded by Durbin that application be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. APPLICATION NO. 637; being an application by H.P.Barton to cut curb for driveway at 2302 East 38th Street was read. Same having the approval of the City Engineer. Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that application be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. At this time the City Clerk pl'esa.nted duplic:.tte contracts from the County Auditor regarding the maintaining of prisoners in the County Jail. Moved by Leonis and seco'ded by Durbin, that same be referred to the City Attorney. Eotion carried. Comrimnication from the California 0tate Railroad COln,mis~don was read. Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that same be filed. Motion carried. Proposal of the Angelus Furniture Company, regarding the furnishing o~ Walnut tabm$s with linoleum tops was read. Moved by D':rbin and seconded by Levy that same be referred to the com.-rni ttee on furniture. Motioh carried. Report of the City Board of Health was read. Moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy that same be filed. Motion carried. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy that the "following matters be referredto the City Engineer, to-wit: Opening of magnolia Avenue: Widening of West Vernon Avenue: Straightening of 26th Street: Paving of East 26th Street: Improving Pacific Blvd., north of Fruitland Ave. Motion carried. .l:'age 3- Minutes of the meeting of the Board of Trustees September 1st 19B5. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy that the City Attorney be instructed to prepare requisitions and orders to be used by the City in making purchases and that no demands ~or materials or goods furnished the City be approved, only in cases of emergency, unless a requistion is first presented to the Board for their approval. Motion carried. Demands on the General Ftmd in the am(mnt of $1183.79 were read. Demands on Water System No. 1 in the amount of $463.00 were read. Moved by Levy, secmnded by Leonis that the demands be allowed and warrants drawn upon the Treasury for the amounts. Motion carried.
