REGULAR MEETING
A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of
Vernon, County of Los Angeles, and State of California, was held
on the 14th day of September , 1925, atBa 0' clock P. M. of
said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said City
of Vernon, which said time and place is the time and place fixed by
ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held.
There were present at such meeting Trustees,
Durbin, Levy and Furlong.
There were absent from such meeting Trustee,
Leonis and IU1iffin
President Trustee

The minutes of the meeting, held on

It ViaS moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that all minutes be laid over
to the next regular meeting. Motion carried.
Trustee Durbin introduced Hesolution of Intention No. 385, same being
a resolution of theBoard declaring their intention to construct a
sewer on East 26th ~treet. Said resolution was read.
Moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy tl1at same be adopted. Motion carried.
The City Clerk statec3 that this was the time set for the opening of
bids for the laying of cast iron water mains, bids to be opened on road
machinery and bids f01' the furnishing of materials and contruction
of fence aro1.mlft City t S propert;;r.
JVIoved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the bids first be opened for
laying of cast.iron water pipe. Motion carried.
The following bids, were then pI' sented and read to the Board:
Bid of Thos Haverty Company;
Bid of Ueorge Mitchell Company.
Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the bid be referred to the
Ci ty Engineer for checking and reTlort at the next regular meeting
of the Board to be held on September 21st 1925 at 8: P.l'Il.
Motion carried.
Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the bids f01'" roact machinery be
opened and read. Motion carried.
The following bids on road machinery vvere opened and read.
Bid of Frank T. Hickey Co.
Austin-Western Company.
Willard & Shepherd.
Moved by DU.rbin aced seconded by Levy that bids be referred to the City
Engineer for checking and report at the next regular meeting of the
Board. Motion carried.
Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the City Clerk open bids
for the furnishing of materials for the building of a fence around
the City's property. Motion carried.
The City Clerk opened and read bids from the following firms;

Moved by Levy and secinded by Durbin, that the bids be referred to the
City Engineer for checking and report at the next regular meeting.
Motion carried.
APPL: 639 & 640; same being applicaton of tb.e Soutl1ern California Gas
Company for service connections and having the approval of the City
Engineer.
Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the applications be filed
and permits granted. Motion carried.
APFL: No. .6,41; same being application of P.J . Durbin to repair dwelling at
Vernon and Boyle Avenue was read.
IIoved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the application be filed and
permit be granted. Motion carried.
APPL: No. 642; same being applicatton of the Southern California Telephone
COlnpany to set one 50' pole and reset one 50' pole on the east side of
Alameda Street, just north of 38th Stre t and to replace four 30' poles
and one 50' pole and remove one 30' pole on the north side of 38th Street,
between Alameda and Irving Streets, was read.
Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the application be laid over
until the next regular meeting of the Board. Motion carried.
APPL: No. 643; Application of the Southern California Telephone Co., to
excavate in East 37th Street, west of Boyle Ave., for the purpose of
placing creosot;ed wood duct was read. Same having the approval of the City
Engineer it was;
Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin, that the application be filed and
permit granted. Motion carried.
APPL: No. 644; Application of the Southern California Gas Co., to lay main
across Alameda Street at 52nd Street was read. Same having the approval
of the City Engineer it was;
Moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that the application be filed and
permit granted. Motion carrm.ed.
APPL: No. 645i Application of the Southern California Gas Co., for a
temporary cOnYlection at 37th and Santa Fe Avenue. Same having the approval
of the City Engineer it was;
Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the application be filed and
permit granted. Motion carr~ed.
APPL: No. 646. Application of Frank Scherbert to erect a corral on the
property of tBe Conswners Rock & Gravel Co., on Alameda Street was read.
Same not having the approval of the City Engineer it was;
Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that nhe application be filed and
permit denied. Motion carried.
Appl: No. 647; Application of the L.A.Paving Co., to erect an oFfice
bUllding at Vernon and Boyle Avenue was read. Same having the approval
of the City Engineer it was;
Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that application be filed and
permit granted. Motion carried.
Application of Cannon and Keifer for permission to use lot at the corner
of Vernon and Santa Fe Avenue as a used car lot. Same having the approval
of the Police Department it was;

permit be granted. Motion carried.
Application of John Monkoff for license to collect, garbage and other
refuse in the City of Vernon was read.
Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin, that same be referr'ed to the Police
Deaprtment for investigation and report. Motion carried.
Communication frum the A-Brass Foundry Co., regarding damage done to
drain pipe was read.
Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that the City Clerk be instructed
to comrmnicate with the A-Brass FO"llmlry Co., and notify them that the
City Transfer Co., of Long Beach ~alif., were responsible for the
damage done by cast iron pipe. Motion carried.
Cownunication from the Union Pipe & Tank Co., complaining of tIle smoke
and dust emanting from the L.A.paving Company's plant was read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy that the communication be referred to
the City Clerk for reply. Motion carried.
Comrnunica tion from the California Developing Assc!:n. was read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy that same be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from the Parrafine Companies requesting an emergency
water line to their plaht.
Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin that sa:rne be referred to the City
Engineer. Motion carried.
Circular letter in reference to the raise in rates of the Los Angeles
Gas Company and the Southern 0alifornia Gas Company, was read.
Moved by Durbin and seconded by Levy that sLune be referred to the City A
Attorney. Motion carried.
Quotation from the American La-France Company on engine oils was read.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin that smile be filed. Motion carried.
Report of the State Board of Health was read.
Moved by Durbin and seconded by Devy that Siline be filed. Motion carried.
The report of the Police Department was submitted by the City Marshall.
Moved by Le~J and seconded by Durbin that same be laid over to the next
regular meeting. Motion carried.
Quotations for signs placed on doors in the new city hall building was
submitted by the Western Rubber Stamp Co.
Moved by Durpin and seconded by Le~J that same be laid ocer to the next
regular meeting. Motion carried.
The City Marshall reported th~t he had employed E.K.Niskern as Deputy
Marshall to act as motorcycle officer and requested the approval of
the Board,
Moved by Levy and seconded by Du_rbin that the appointment of E.K. Niskern
by the City Marshall be approved. Motion carried.
Moved by Thlrbin and seconded by Levy that the City Clerk be instructed
to advertise for bids for a truck witll a capacity ofl~ to 2 tons, to be
used in the water department. Motion carried.

At thi s time the City Clerk read a demand of the Padific Pipe & Suppl':r
Oompanyfor $135,077.28 same bei in payment of cast iron pipe already
supplied to the City of Vernon.
Moved by Levy, seconded by D11.rbj_n, tlla t tho bill be allovred and a warrant
for ;i~135,077.28 be drawn on tbe Water Bond Pund No.2. Motion carried.
