OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF VERNON HELD ON

The meeting was called to order by the City Clerk, at 8 o'clock P.M.
The Trustees present were:
Levy, Durbin and Leonis.
The Trustees absent were:
Kniffin and Furlong.
The City Clerk requested the nomination for chairmanpro-tem for the
evening, owing to the absence of President J.J.Furlcng. Mr Levy
named J.B.Leonis. seconded by Mr. Durbin, the City Clerk putting
the motion, which was carried.
Upon assTh~ing the chair the President pro-tem amnounced that this
was the time for the opening of bids for electrical supplies for the
City.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the sealed bids on file with
the City Clerk be opened and read. Moi3ion carried.
The City Clerk read the bids i'rom the following firms:

Westinghouse Electric Co.
Pacific States Electric Co.

:Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin ahat all bids be referBed to
the City Engineer for checking and report. Motion carried.
Application of the L.A.Railway Co., to construct landings to
receive and discharge passengers on Pacific Blvd. was read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy that same be laid over.
Motion carried.
Application for a franchise by the .l.Jepartl"ent of Wa tel' and Power
of the City of Los Angeles, was read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy that the same be laid over until
all members of the Board were present. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 370; am ordinanc~ grantfung to the Southern Pacific Company
a spur track franchise across anta Fe Avenue and Fruitland Road,
was read in full for first reading.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy that Ordinance 370 be passed
for first reading. Motion carried.
Communication from the City of Pasadena regarding water rights
in the San Gabriel Canyon was read.

read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy that the cornrnunica tion be filed. Motion
carried.
COIl1,'1lUnication from L.A.'J.'atom 'Vms read. Mr. Tatom being present, he requested
permission to address the Board, which was granted. After hearing the statemen
of Mr. Tatom it was,
Moved by Durbin, seconde(1 by Levy, that the communication be filed. :Motion
carried.
Application for a lunch wagon stand permit by C.E.Elliott was read.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that same be filed. Motion carried.
Application Mo. 664; same being an application of the Southern California
Gas domp any for service cOiLection at 25Zil East 28th Street, was read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the application be filed and the
permit granted. Smne having the approval of the City Engineer. Motion
carried.

Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the above applications be filed
and permits granted. Motion carried.
The report of the Fire Chief on the inspection of the fire hose purchased
by the City was read.
Moved by Thlrbin, seconded by Levy, that the report be accepted and filed.
Iilotion carried.
ffhe report of the Police Department was read.
Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin, that the report be accepted and filed.
Motion carried.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the City Marshall make a complete
report of the names of all people subject to license in the City of
Yernon, showing those paying license ans also those delinquent in
regards to license. Motion carried.

The City Engineer requested Eermissio~to buy transformer pad and
to erect a 40foot tower upon the City s 1j'1"'Operty. He reported that
the cost of same would not exceed $200..00
l'vloved by Levy and seconded by Durbin, that the City Engineer be
empowered to have said viOrk done and material furnished to the
city. Motion carried.
Trustee Levy reported that he had visited all the packing plants
within the lim~ts of the City.
Moved by D1Jrbi:c'." seconded by Levy, that the report of IiII'. Levy
be received and filed and that the City Attorney be instructed

rec111esting said orgine:.zation to appoint a coun;i ttee to "ark in
conjunction with the city and in the aim of eliminating offensice
odors emanting from the packing plants in the City. Motion carried.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the City Clerk be instructed to ad-
vertise for a calculating ,achine to be used in the office of
the City Engineer and that bids be received at 8 O'clock P.M. on
the 19th day of October 1925. Motion carried.

to ob.tain the price and am01.Elt of matting necessary to be used
in the entrance to the City Hall and rerJ',rt back at the next
regular meeting. Motion carried.

Demands on the General Fund in the amount of :11;1523.00 were read,
~nd demands of :;;;721.61 on Water Bond Pund No.1 and demands of

of $5822.50 on Sewer District No.1 Bond Fund.
Moved by Levy and seconded Durbin, that the demands be allowed
