19251005 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes MINUTES OF Ii REGUJAR MEETING OF frHE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF VERNON HELD ON THII~ 5th DAY OF OCTOBER, 1925, AT rrI:ffi VERNON CIr:J.1Y I:L'\.LL LOCATh.i) AT 4305 SANTA FE A VEN1JE. The meeting was called to order by the City Clerk, at 8 o'clock P.M. The Trustees present were: Levy, Durbin and Leonis. The Trustees absent were: Kniffin and Furlong. The City Clerk requested the nomination for chairmanpro-tem for the evening, owing to the absence of President J.J.Furlcng. Mr Levy named J.B.Leonis. seconded by Mr. Durbin, the City Clerk putting the motion, which was carried. Upon assTh~ing the chair the President pro-tem amnounced that this was the time for the opening of bids for electrical supplies for the City. Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the sealed bids on file with the City Clerk be opened and read. Moi3ion carried. The City Clerk read the bids i'rom the following firms: Norton & Norton W.A.Benjamin Electrical Co. General Electric Co. Westinghouse Electric Co. Pacific States Electric Co. Jno A. Roeb1ing Sons Standard Undergrol.md Cable Electric Lighting Supply Co. Safety Electric Products Co. BrovYn & Pengilly Co. United States Prdducts Co. :Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin ahat all bids be referBed to the City Engineer for checking and report. Motion carried. Application of the L.A.Railway Co., to construct landings to receive and discharge passengers on Pacific Blvd. was read. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy that same be laid over. Motion carried. Application for a franchise by the .l.Jepartl"ent of Wa tel' and Power of the City of Los Angeles, was read. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy that the same be laid over until all members of the Board were present. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 370; am ordinanc~ grantfung to the Southern Pacific Company a spur track franchise across anta Fe Avenue and Fruitland Road, was read in full for first reading. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy that Ordinance 370 be passed for first reading. Motion carried. Communication from the City of Pasadena regarding water rights in the San Gabriel Canyon was read. COIl1,'1lUnication from L.A.'J.'atom 'Vms read. Mr. Tatom being present, he requested permission to address the Board, which was granted. After hearing the statemen of Mr. Tatom it was, Moved by Durbin, seconde(1 by Levy, that the communication be filed. :Motion carried. Application for a lunch wagon stand permit by C.E.Elliott was read. Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that same be filed. Motion carried. Application Mo. 664; same being an application of the Southern California Gas domp any for service cOiLection at 25Zil East 28th Street, was read. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the application be filed and the permit granted. Smne having the approval of the City Engineer. The report of the Fire Chief on the inspection of the fire hose purchased by the City was read. Moved by Thlrbin, seconded by Levy, that the report be accepted and filed. Iilotion carried. ffhe report of the Police Department was read. Moved by Levy and seconded by Durbin, that the report be accepted and filed. Motion carried. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the City Marshall make a complete report of the names of all people subject to license in the City of Yernon, showing those paying license ans also those delinquent in regards to license. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the City Clerk be instructed to ad- vertise for a calculating ,achine to be used in the office of the City Engineer and that bids be received at 8 O'clock P.M. on the 19th day of October 1925.
