MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF
rrRUSTEESl.,OF THE OITY OF VERNON, HELD ON THE
2nd DAY OF NOVEMBER, 1925, AT THE OITY HALL,
4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, OITY OF VERNON.
The meeting was called to order by the City Clerk, T.J~Furlong
at 8 o'clock P.M.
The Trustees present were;
Levy, Durbin, Leonis and Furlong.
The Trustees absent were;
Kniffin on account of illness.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the minutes be approved as read.
Motion carried.
Application for a spur track franchise across Santa Fe Avenue to serve
the Boyle Dayton Oompany was read.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that same be laid over. Motion carried.
Application for a franchise by ~epartment of Water & Power of Los Angeles
was read.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that same be laid over for a full board.
Motion carried.
New Business
Application No. 679; same being application for service connection by
Southern California Gas Company at 4700 Santa Fe Avenue was read.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that application be filed and permit
granted. Motion carried.
Application No. 680; same being application for building permit by Vitrefrax
Company, for a building, costing approximately $300.00 was read.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that same be. referred to the Fire
Department. Motion carried. .
Application No. 681; same being application by Southern California Telephone
Csmpany to set one 30 foot pole on south side of 51st Street, west of
Santa Fe Avenue was read.

granted. Motion carried.
Application No. 682; same being application hy Southern California Telephone
Company to place 40 feet of 3 inch creosoted wood duct across 37th Street,
east of Santa Fe Avenue, to serve the Mark Lally Company was read.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that same be filed and permit granted.
Motion carried.
Application No. 683; same being application by Southern California Gas
Company for service connection at 2410 East 57th Street was read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy that the application be filed and permit
gran~ed. Motion carried.
Application No. 684; being application by R.E.Imbler for a building permit
to repair floor at 2025 East 38th Street was read.

Application No. 685; being application by R.F.Wa~e for an oil line across
East 27th Street from Vernon Oil Refining Company to Southern Glass Company,
was read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy that the application be filed and permit
granted. Motion carried.

Application No. 685; being application by Baash Ross Rool Company, for a
building to construct a pipe 2hop costing approximately $1,000.00 was
read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the application be filed and permit
granted. Motion carried.
Application No. 687; same being application by Paraffine Company, for a
building permit to construct a shelter for driveway costing approximately
$8,000.00 was read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the application be filed and permit
granted. Motion carried.

Application No. 689; being application by M. Miller to excavate ~t 4433
Santa Fe Avenue for sewer connection was read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the application be filed and permit
granted. Motion carried.
Communication from General Drug Company regading permit to operate a drug
sto~e was read.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin that owing to the fact the location
was not stated in application to operate drug store that same be filed.
Motion carried.
Comnmnication from Everett B. Thomas, regarding permit to operate a
tank farm for storage of petroleum was read.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that same be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from Southern Pacific Co pany regarding upkeep of all
culverts over which spur tracks are used was read.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that same be filed. Motion carried.
Comunication from Kersey Pattern Works Company was read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy that same be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from Vernon School Trustees was read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy that same be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from Union Tank & Pipe Company, regarding traffic buttons
was read.

Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that same be referred to the City
Engineer. Motion carried.
At this time the City Clerk announced that this was the time set for the
hearing of the re'Jort from tIle City Engineer on the trenching bids that had
been referred to him.
City Engineer McCurdy recommended that the contrsct be awarded to Geo. Mitchell
Comoany for the trenching on 49th Street, 50th Street, 51st Street and
Topeka Avenue, and that the contract be awarded to Thomas Haverty Company for
the trenching on Audrey, Junior, Hawthorne, St Charles, East 46th Street,
Seville Avenue, Fruitland and Slauson Avenues, and that all bids be rejected
on 48th Street and Cypress, and that all joints in these sections be made
of cement.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the recommendations~,of the City
Engineer in reference to cement be concurred in. Motion carried by following
vote:
Aye s: Durbin and Levy
Noes: Leonis.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that contracts be awarded as recommended
by City Engineer. Motion carried.
At this time the Fire Chief reported that the Los Angeles Felt Company
had complied with the fire requirements and recommended that they be
allowed to open for business.
Moved by Le~, seconded by Durbin, that the same be referred to the Fire
Chief with power to act. Motion carried
At this time the City Clerk read a petition for the annexation of
certain territory to be annexed to the City of Vernon.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin that same be referred to the City Clerk
for checking and report at the next regular meeting. Motion carried.
At this time the City Engineer requested permission to b~ a pipe jack
to be used in the water department and lead melting pot and caulking tools
and also a U.S.Motor.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the Engineer be permitted to buy
said articles. Motion carried.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the committee consisting of Levy,
Durbin and the City Clerk but a total of three mats for the City Hall.
Motion carried.
Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durpin, that the City Ulerk be instructed
to advertise for bids for a garage and two well houses. Motion carried.
Demands were read on the General Fund in the sum of $2559.39 and on the
Water Bond Fund # 2 in the s~ of $374.76;
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the demands be allowed and warrants
dra\V11 for same on the respective funds. Motion carried.
Report of the State Board of Health was read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy ~hat same be filed. Motion carried.
Report of the License collector was read.
