MINUTES OF AN ADJOURNED MEETING OF Tlill BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF VERNON, HELD ON THE 9th DAY OF NGVEMBER, 1925, AT THE CITY HALL, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, CI~rY OF VERNON, CALIFOffiiIA. The meeting was called to order by the President, J.J.Furlong at 8 o'clock P.M. The Trustees present were; Levy, Durbin, Leonis and Furlong. Ther Trustees absent were: Kniffin, on account of illness. New Business. Application No. 666; being an application for a building permit by Geo. Hauptman was read. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that same be filed and pe,rmi t granted. Motion carried. Application No. 690; same being an excavation application by E.K.Wood Co., for a sewer connection on Alameda street was read. Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that same be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Application No. 691; being an application for a building permit by the General Petroleum Corp., for a pillap house was read. Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that same be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Application No. 692; being an application by Southern California'Telephone Company to set 2 poles on the north side of 25th Street east of Alameda alas to place approximately 224 feet of two wat vitrified clay conduit on the south side of 25th Street. east of Alameda Street was read. Application No. 693; sa.rne being an application by the Los AngeLes Gas & Electric Company for gas service at 2041 East 38th Street was read. Application No. 694; being an application of the General Electric Company, for sewer connection on East'152nd Street to sarve Lot 1 Tract 2480~was read. Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that same be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Apllication No. 695; same being an application of the General Electric for a second sewer connection to Lot 1 Tract 2480 was read. Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that same be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication frOill the Buttonlath Manufacturing Company was read. Moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin, that same be filed. Motion carried. Moved bY,Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the City Clerk be instructed to imform the A.ill.Castle Company that pipelines are to be laid on said streetbefore any improvements are to be made. l'.1otion carried.. COlirmnication from T.J.Doyle reql1esting the repeal of Ordinance No. 321, V'la s read. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy that the cow~}unication be referred to a co~nittee appoinjed by the Chair. Motion carried The Chairman appointed Mr. Durbin and Mr. Levy on the above committee. The report of H.H.Isaacs on the foamite system of the Hercules Gasoline Company was read. Moved by Levy, c3econded by Leonis, that same be filed. Motion carried. Communication from the Technical Glass Company, requesting sprinkler connection to the water system was read. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that ~he Technical Glass Company, be notified that said connection will be laid provided they pay for the installation. Motion carried. Conn~unication from John F. Nelson, Chief Meat Inspector, was read. Moved by Levnis, seconded by Durbin, that same be filed. Motion carTied. A petition fOT' aJ11'leXa tion of Lot 75 Rancho Lag1)na o.nd other property was read. Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that same be referred'to the City Clerk for checking and peport. Motion carried. At this time frustee Leonis reported that Hugh McGuire of the City of Los Angeles had comnurdcated with him reg&rding making some arrangements with the City of Vernon to use the old deTurk property for burning refuse and trash so as to eliminate the burning of same on river bank. Motion carried. Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that H.R.Isaacs be instructed to make a full report of all refineries not complying with Foamite Ordinance, including Pioneer Paper Company. Motion carried. Trustee Durbin reported on conditions in the Police Deaprtment. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that E. Giles, Chief Deputy, be instructed to make the necessary ch&nges by hirinG and discharging any member or members of the department in orddr to get efficiency, andLthe'following in letter form be sent him. Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the City Attorney be requested to give his views in regards to the Fruitland Annexation Territory, now in litigation and so be instructed to report at next meeting. Motion carried. The City Engineer reconrrllended that the Street Superintendent be instructed to write the Railway Companies' who have tracks across Santa Fe Avenue and other streets in,process of improvement to construct culverts, or the City of Vernon wilJ be compelled to do the work and charge the railway for same. Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the reconID1endation of the City Engineer be concurred in. Motion carried. Report of the Fire Chief was read. Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that saIne be filed. Motion carried. Demand of Joe Chutuk for the bulLo"nce of 25% retained on Section 1,2 and 3 of Municipal Sewer District No.1 in the amountof $11,479.00 was read, same having the approval of the City Engineer, it was, / · Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the demand be allowed and warrant dra~vn.
