19251207 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes REGULAR MEETING. A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of Vernon, County of Los Angeles, and State of California, 'Was held on the 7th day of December , 19. , at ~ 0' clock P. M. of said day at the regular meeting place of said Board in said City of Vernon, 'Which said time and place is the time and place fixed by ordinance for regular meetings of the said Board to be held. RESOLUTION NO. 402: A resolution accepting a deed for street purposes from Factoty Site Company was read. lEaved by Durbin:, seconded by Levy, that sarne be adopted. lrotioD carried. RESOLUTION NO. 403: A resolution accepting a deed for street purposes from Walter Cox an'd Wm. A. Corder ViTas read. Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin. that same be adopted. Motion carried. RESOLUTION NO. 404: A resolution accepting deed from the Sterling Chemical Company was read. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that same be adopted. Motion carried. RESOLUTION NO. 405: A resolution accepting a deed from Industrial Centre Corpo ration \vas read. Moved by Levy. seconded by Durbin. that same be adopted. lv!otion carried. RESOLUTION NO. 406: McClellan was read. A resolution accepting a deed from Buttress & Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy. that same be accepted. Motion carried. At this time the City Clerk announced tl1a.t this was the time for the opening of bids as set forth in the notice inviting sealed proposals for the improvement of Pac:ific Boulevard in s~id City and that he had several sealed proposals upon his desk; Moved by Durbin. seconded by Levy. that the City Clerk be instructed to open the proposals for the improvement of Pacific Boulevard. Motion carried. Bids were received from the following firms: L. A. Paving Company. Griffith Company and George R. Curtis Company. Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin. that all bids be rejected except the bid of L. A. Paving Company and they be awarded the contra.ct. a.s being the lowest responsible bidder. Motion carried. ~ S3; RESOLUTION" NO. 407: A resolution awarding the contract for the improvemett of Pacific Boulevardto L. A. Paving Company was read. ".Moved by Durbin. seconded by Levy, that Resolution no. 407 be adopted. Motion carried. A circular letter from the liTayor of Los Angeles was read. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that sarne be filed. Jo;rot i on carried. Comnmnication from the Southern Pacific Company in reference to the opening of 49th Street and the closing of 46th and 48th streets. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that sarne be referred to the City Engineer for report. Motion carried. Application of 11artin LaRue for permission to operate a restaurant at 51st Street and Alameda was read. IJloved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that SaJIle be ref.erred to the Police Department for investigation and report at the next meeting. Motion carried. Application of Fra.nk 7/. Wenk for permission to operate a. restaurant at 5300 Santa Fe Avenue was read. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the application be referred to tlill Police Department for investigation and report, at the next regular meeting. l\{otion carried, Coramunication from the Bureau of Water and Power of Los Angeles was read. Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that same be laid over for a meeting of the full board. Motion carried. Communication from the Period Furniture Company re- questing sprinkler connection to their factory was read. !v!oved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that SaIne be referred to the City Engineer. },[otion carried. COIT~unication from the Buttonlath Mfg. Company in reference to a certain deed to be given by them to the City for street purposes was read. :Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that same be filed. APPLICATIon NO. 704: Ap:91ication by Percival Iron 'Yorks for a building permit was read. APPLICATION NO. 706: Application of Plastoid Products Co. was read, APPLICATION NO. 707: Application of IJr & !vi Broom Company for building permit was read. All the above applications having the approval of the City Engineer, it was Moved by Levy, see:onded by Durbin,_ that same be filed and permits granted. Motion carried. 3.54 -2- APPLICATION NO. 705: An alJplication for an excavation permit for a sewer for the Suckow Chemical Company was read. Same having the approval of the City Engineer, it was Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that s~ne be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. APPLICATIon NO. 708: of the Southern California Telephone Company for permission to set three thirty foot poles and two anchors on the west side of the alley east of Santa Fe Avenue, south of Vernon Avenue, VIas read. Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the application be filed and perroi t granted. l\1Iotion carried. At this time a cOl1lraunication from the Curtis "0ompany was read, . requesting an e:i(tension of time to complete their contract for the improvement of Santa Fe Avenue, and after hearing a representative from said company; it was l;Ioved by Levy, seconded by D1.1rbin, that the Geo, R. Curtis Company be given an extension of thirty days to complete the improvement of Santa Fe Avenue. Motion carried. Rel)Ort of the City lclarshall was read. ljloved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the report of City Marshall be received and filed. Motion carried. At this time the City IJIarshall requested the Board to approve the appointment of J. F. Hart, A. P. Ells and J. R. Church a.s pOlice officers in the City of Vernon. IJoved by Levy, seconded by Duroin. that the request 0 f the City Marshall be complied with. Motion carried. At this t i111e the City Engineer requested perrIlission to construct a switch balcony in the firedepartment, cost of which is not to exceed the sum of ~wo hundred sixty dollars ($260.0j). Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the request of the City Engineer be complied with. Motion carried. At this time Mr. Levy nade a report in reference to the change in the ordinance requested by 111'. Doyle an d requested that the matter layover until a meeting of the full board before any change was made. Hoved 0-"1 Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the matter of changing said ordinance be laid over until such meeting of a full board. Motion carried.. At this time the City Cl erk requested the Board to authorize him to purchase 1090 legal sheets for the City Attorney and one case of electric lights, orders Hos. 101 arld 102. }}loved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that said orders Hos. 101 and 102 be approved and purcha.se made. A proposal of Bishop F1.1rniture Company for construction of a table for City Council was read. !,roved by Durbin, seconded by Levy t that sai d proposal be filed, as the contract for tIle furnishing of said table had already been let. trot ion carried. The City Engineer requested permission to buy an :Ellis Ford pipe cutter to cost approximately $80rOO and to buy a trench pump to cost approximately $230~00 and to have a sign set in front of the City Hall directing the public to the Police Department. Moved by Durbin. seconded by Levy, that the requests of' the City Engineer be complied with. Motion carried. ~S5 -3- At this time demands on the General Fund in the amount of :~1552.00; on Water Bond Fund lTo. 2 of $540.06; on Sewer Bond Fund No. 1 of $7.975.20; Water bond fund No.1 of $1.056.95 were read.
