OF THE CITY OF VERHON, HELD Olf THE 18th DAY OF .TANUART,
1926. AT THE CITY HALL, VERNON, CALIFORNIA.
The meeting was called to order by the President.
J. J. Furlong, at eight o'clock P.M.
The trustees present were: Leonis. Durbin. Levy and
Furlong.
The trustees absent were: Mr. Kniffin.
The minutes of the ad,j ourned meeting of .Tanuary 11th
were read.
:Moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy. that the minutes
be corrected to read "contract submitted by the Southern Pacific
Company" instead of the words "estimates in re spur track on the
city's property". Motion carried.

Moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy. that the minutes
of the ad.j ourned meet ing of January 11th, 1926 be approved as
corrected. Motion carried.
At this time the City Clerk reported that this was
the time and place to canvass the votes on the special elections
held on the 9th day of January, 1926 for the annexation of certain
territories to the City of Vernon, the said territories being de-
signated respectively as The Central Manufacturing District and the
Bandini Annexation District.
Moved by Levy. seconded by Durbin, that the. Board
proceed to canvass the vote. :Mot io'n carried.
At this time the Board canvassed the votes re Central
Manufacturing District on annexation to the City of Vernon and the
results showed two votes for and none against said wlnexation.
RESOLUTIon NO. 419: At this time Trustee Durbin introduced Resolu-
tion No. 41..9, a resolution of the Board of Trustees declaring the
results of a special election held in the territory knmT.n and de-
signated as the "CentrallJfanufacturing Di strictJ'
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that Resolution
No. 419 be adopted. Motion carried.
At this time the votes were canva~sed. by the Board
of the special election held on the 9th day of January, 1926. in
the territory known and aesignated as the IlBandini Annexation
District". The results showed that the votes cast for annexation
were two and the votes against annexation were none.
RESOL~ION 420: At this time Trustee Levy Introduced Resolution No.
420, a resolution declaring the results of a special election held
on the 9thbday of january, 1926. in the territory knovm as ItBandini
Annexation District~.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin. that resolution
No. 420 be adopted. Motion carried.
. .At this time the City Cle:dcreported that he had
blds on his desk for the building of a spur track on the city's
property and that this was the time for the opening of said bids.
Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the City
Clerk proceed to open the bids. Motion carried.

There were bids submitted from the following firms:
C. E. Shannahan & Company, and J". C. McCULLOUGH. The same 'were re-
ferred to tIle City Engineer. who reported immediately that the bid
of C. E. SE]JIT{AHAN and Company was the lowest bid. and recommended
its acceptance.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy. tl~t all bids be
rej ected except the bid of C. E. SHA1il{ARA.N Sf; C01:i?AHY and they be
~larded the contract. Motion carried. ~
It was moved by Leonis~ seconded by Levy, tl1at the City
Clerk proceed to open the bids for the pump requested in the adver-
tisement inviting sealed proposals. Motion carried.
Bids were read from the following firms: Fairbanks-
Morse Company. DeLavall steam Turbine Company.
The City Engineer at this time recomInended that all
bids be re.j ected except the bid of DeLavall Steam Tur-oine Company
and they be awarded the contract as they were the lowest bidder.
l\roved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin" that the recom-
mendatio.n of the City Engineer be concurred in and the contract
awarded to DeLavall Steam Turbine Company. :Motion carried.
ORDINi~rCE NO. 370: An ordinance which was read in full on the 11th
day of J"anuary~ 1926 and referred to this meeting was again read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy. that the said
ordinance be adopted as amended, said amendment being that Section
5 shall read "that this franchise is granted sub.j ect to the appro-
val of the railroad commission and. further that the property

phone in the Police Department. Motion carried.
Communication from the Filtrol Company in re water
connection was read.

City of Vernon app~oving the annexation to, incorporating in and

approved by the qualified electors of said territory and a special

Attorney be ipstrue;ted to write Sierra Refining Company requesting

At this time :Mr. Leonis reported upon the drainage distric t
and requested that the City Clerk communicate with the Boa.rd of
Supervisors request ing them to make a survey of the drainage dis-
trict in the City of Vernon.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin. that the report be
received and the City Clerk instructed to write as aforesaid..

Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that Hr. Leonis be
appointed a cOmL1ittee of one to employ the Mushet Audit Company to
instal the necessary books in the Water Department. Motion carried

be instructed to submit his reuort on the number of firemen needed
in his fire department, togeth~r with their names, so that the
Board :may employ salTIe. ];lotion carried.
Report of the Fire Chief upon the organization of the
voluntee.r end of the fire department was read.

Moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy t that the City Engin-
eer be instructed to make the necessary connections to ranches
making application for wa.ter and that the irrigation rate be fixed
at $1.50 per hour. ],[otion carried.
Moved by Leonis. seconded by Levy, that the City Clerk
be instructed to adverti'&e for a large d.ri.ll~ in machine to be
used in the ',vater de'Dartment. ll!oti on carried.

Demands on the general fund in the sum of $11.350.51
and on Water Bond Fund No. 2 of $20.621.34 were read. ~
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin. that the demands be
. allmved and warrants drawn for the amounts. Motion carried..
