OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF VERNON HELD ON TEE
23rd DAY OF FEBRUARY, 1926, AT THE: CITY HALL,
VERNON, CALIFORIITA.
The meeting was called to order by the President,
J. J. FURLONG, at eight atclock P.M.
The trustees present were: Levy, Durbin, Leonis and
Furlong.
The trustees absent were: 111.'. Kniffin.
The minutes of the regular meeting of February
15th were read.
!.~oved by Levy. seconded by Durbin~ that the minutes
be approved as read. l1:otion carried.
At this time the City Clerk announced tha.t he had
received several bids pursu8.nt to a.dvertisement for the improve-
ment of Leonis Boulevard.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the City
Clerk proceed to open the bids. Uotion carried.
The City Clerk then opened and read bids from the
following c'ompanies: Los Angeles Paving Company and Griffith
Company.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that all bids
be referred to the City Engineer for checking and report at the
next regular meeting. Motion carried.
A cornmunication signed by W. J. Boyle and F. L.
Dayton requesting the Board of Trustees to repeal Ordinance No.
370, passed and adppted on the 18th day of .Tanuary, 1926 and. also
requesting the repeal of ordinance No. 371, said ordinances being
ordinances granting franchises to the Southern Pacific Railway and
the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway to certain property owned
by Mr. Boyle and Mr. Dayton, and further requesting that an ordin-
ance granting a franchise to the Southern Pacific Company,be pas-
sed and adopted by the Boa.rd, wa.s rea.d.
Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin~ that the

Gentlemen:
. With reference to Ordinance No. 370 passed by
your Honorable Board on the 18th day of .Tanuary, 1926,
granting franchise for the construction of a spur track
across Santa Fe Avenue, to serve this company.
It is noted that Section Ho. 5 of this franchise
places a condition that our property would also be served

by the A. T. & S. F. Railway Company. We ask that
franchise No. 370 be rescinded and new franchise
passed granting the right to the Southern Pacific
to serve the Boyle-Dayton Company by the crossing
on Santa Fe Avenue. Also that franchise No. 37l
which was granted to the A. T. & S. :F. Railway be
rescinded.
We have asked the Southern Pacific Company to draw
new franchise at the earliest possible date in order
that we can secure service to our plant as quickly
as possible.

cation be filed. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE N..Q..!-Jl35: An ordinance grant ing a franchise to the
Southern Pacific Company to serve Boyle-Dayton property was
read.
Moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy. that Ordinance
No. 375 be passed for first reading and that the City Engineer
check same to see if the franchise asked for is within the street
lines. Motion carried.
ORnINAlI~~_RO._376: An ordinance repealing Ordinances Nos. 370
and 371 was read for first reading.
Iv!oved by D1).rbin, seconded by Leonis", that Ordinance
No. 376 be passed for fil"St reading. :Motion carried.
:ru!oved by Leonis, seconded by Levy, that the City
Clerk be instructed to write to the Santa Fe Railway and send
them a copy of the letter from :Mr. Boyle and Mr. Dayton, together
VIi th the request of the Southern Pacific Company for the above
franchise. Motion carried.
An application of R. Bartholies for a license to
operate a lunch wa.gtbn on property belonging to the Federal Refrig-
erator Co., was read.

tion be filed and permit granted. 1.!otion carried.
Application of Olive Garrett to conduct a restaurant
at 5300 Santa Fe Avenue was read.
Hoved by Levy, Seconded by Durbin, that same be referred
to the Police Department. Motion carried.

Report of the state Board of Health was read...
Moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy, that srone-be
filed. Motion carried.
APPLICATION l'TO. 771: An application by Baash-Ross Tool Co..
for a building permit was read.
APPLICATION NO. 772: to and including APPLICATION NO. 778 by
J. B. Leonis, Inc., for sewer connections on East 48th Street
were read.
APPLICATION NO. 779: An application of Vlilliam Carter for
sewer connection at Fruitland Road and Pacific Boulevard was
read.
All the foregoing applications having the approvah
of the City Engineer, it was
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the applica-
tions be filed and permits granted. Motion carried.
At this time the City Engineer reca.uested an additional
week to report on the sewer connec,tions to the Vernon sewer from
outside territory.
llloved by Leonis, seconded by Levy, that the request
of the City Engineer be granted. Motion carried.
At this time the City Engineer recommended that the
Smith Separator Company be given a contract to furnish strainers
to the city for a period of one yea.r at the price named in their
bid.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that all bids be
rejected for strainers exce:pt the bid of the Smith Separator
Company and they be awarded the contract. iJTot i on carried.

rejected for strainers except the bid of the Smith Separator
Company and they be awarded the contract. filot ion carried..
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that a committee
of tviO consisting of the fire chief and Trustee Leonis be
appointed to secure prices on clocks to be used in the City Hall.

At this time the City Clerk reported that he had a
bid of the Vernon Fixture and Cabinet Company on a glass top
for the council table.
Moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy, that the ~tter
be referred. to the City Engineer to be reported on at the next
regular meeting. Motion carried.
At this tiYlle the City Clerk read a petition for
annexation,of certain outside territory to the City of Vernon
signed by B. G. Hall and seventeen others.
Moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy, that the petition
be referred to the City Attorney as to the legality of same to
report as soon as poss ible. }Jot ion carried.

The following dema.rids were made: On Water Bond
Fund No.2-by William J?ayne of $1,494.00; on the General Fund
for alley assessment of $33.00 and on the General Fund for
Fordson Grader of $1947.60.
Moved by Durhin, seconded by Leonis, that the
demands be allowed and warrants drawn on the respective funds.

adjourn. Motion carried.
