OF T~ CITY OF VERNOI{ HELD ON THE 8th DAY OF MARCH, 19ijp,
at the hour of 8 0' clock P.M.
The meeting was called to order by the President, J. J.
Furlong, at eight o'clock P.M.
The trustees present were: Leonis, Durbin, Levy and Fur-
long.
The trustees absen t were: Mr. Kniffin.
The minutes of tile previous meetings were laid ower
until the regular meeting of ~~rch 15th.
ORDINANCE UO.~$;7\7;; An ordinance granting to the Southern
Pacific Company- -a-drill track franchise in the alley between
East 37th and 38th Streets fro!n Ross street to tile first alley
west of Santa Fe Avenue was read for first reading.
},!oved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that Ordinance No.
376 be passed for first reading. :fu!otion carried.
ORDINAlifCE NO. '378:: An ordinance of the City of Vernon granting
a franchi se tOo' 'tEe Atchison, Topeka &; Santa Fe Railroad for four
spur tracks across East 49th Street was read for first reading.
:Moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy, that Ordinanc:e No. 377
be passed for first reading.. and be referred to the City Engin-
eer and City Attorney. Motion carried.
Communication from the Plastiod Products Company requesting
connection to the water system was read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the communication
be refecrZred to the City Engineer. lIotion carried.
Communication from the Union Brass Foundry Company request-
ing permission to connect to sewer on East 52nd Street was read.
1Toved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that the communication
be filed and the City Clerk instructed to notify the Union Brass
Foundry Company that their property is not as yet located in the
City of Vernon. Motion carried.
Communication from the Gay Engineering Company requesting
permission to reserve approximately 100 feet on the north side
of 27th Street for parking PUrIJOSes.

the City Attorney for report. ][otion carried.
Communication from the Associat'ed Meat Company requesting
an 8" fire service connection was read.
I\~oved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that same be referred
to the City Engineer. Motion carried.
Communication from the General Electric Company for an
81t fire service connection ViaS read.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that same be referred
to the City Engineer. Motio~ carried.

Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin. that the report
be received and filed. 1!otion carried.
APPLICATION NO.787: Application of the Standard Pa.cking Company
for sewer connection on Pacific Avenue.
APPLICATION NO. 788: Application by Tilden Lumber Company for
sewer connection on East 49th Street was read.
.J.\PPLICATION NO. 789: Application by Leonis, Inc., for 16 sewer
connections on Leonis Blvd.,
APPLICATION NO. 790: Application of J. J. Furlong for 12 sewer
connections on East 49th Street.
APPLICATION NO. 791: Application of the California-Oregon Paper
Mills for factory building at 2001 East 51st Stree~.
APPLICATION NO. 792: Application by Stauffer Chemical Company
for building permit for an a.ddition to their laboratory.

to construc;t a iumber shed.
APPLICATION" NO. 794: Application of Pacific Pipe & Tank Co.,
to construct a temporary office building to take the place of
one burned down.
APPLICATION rifO. 782: An application of Consumers tRack & Gravel.
Company for a permit for a railroad bridge over the sand pit at
27th and Alameda Streets.
All the foregoing applications having the approval
of the City Engineer, it was
}.roved by Durbin, sec onded by Levy, that the applica-
tions be filed and permits granted. Motion carried.
APPLICATIOH HO. 795: A-oplication of the Southern California
Telephone-Company to place approximately 77 feet of 3- sewer tile
across Santa. Fe Avenue in order to furnish the :Percival. Iron &
Steel Company with telephone service. Same carrying the recommen-
dation of the City Engineer that same should be approved upon the
condition that instead of tile laid across Santa Fe Avenue a pipe
carrying service wire be jacked across Santa Fe Avenue and a small
hole cut in, the pavement for connection.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the applica-
tion be filed and permit granted only on the conditions recommended
by the City Engineer. Motion carried.
Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the City
Clerk be instructed to communicate vii th the auditor at once and to
ascertain if possible why the bookkeeping system of the water
department has not been complete.d and turned over to his office.

At this time 1~. Levy reported upon the conunittee
appointed ~J the Board to investigate t~e dust arising from Vernon
Feed & Fuel Comvany. He reported that the Lnnagement of said com-
pany claimed that the dust arising complained of was coming from
the excavation in the street in the laying of the sewer.

At this time Ur. Levy reported that he had inter-
viewed E. R. Werdin. of E. R. Werdin Paving Company in reference to
the dust arising from his plant and that J~. Werdin assured him
that he would move his plant as soon as Vernon Avenue is passable.
!Joved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis,. that the report
of I~. Levy be received and filed. Motion carried.
At this time the Chairman of the Board announced the
appointment of the fire cOIilllussion as ordered by the Board and
named the follovfing trustees to be known as the Fire Com.>nission of
the City of Vernon: Trustees Leonis. Durbin and Furlong.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Le~J, that the meeting
adjourn. Motion carried.
