VERH"ON, CALIFORNIA. The meeting was ca.lled to order by the President, J. J. Furlong, at eight o'clock P.ll. The trustees present were: Leonis. Durbin ani Furlong. The trustees absent were: Mr. Kniffin and 1~. Levy. The minutes of February 23rd. March 1 and l~ch 8th were read. Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin. that the minutes be approved as corrected, said correction being to insert the letter received f:;rom Mr. Boyle and Mr. Dayton in reference to repealing certain franchise ordinances granting to the Southern Pacific Company and Atchison, Topeka and Sanla Fe Avenue to serve their property. Motion carried. ORDIHANCE NO. 377: An ordinance granting to the Southern Pacific Company a drill track franchise in the alley between East 37th and 38th Streets from Ross Street to the first alley west of Santa Fe Avenue was read for second reading. 1,ioved by Leonis. seconded by Durbin, that Ordinance No. 377 be passed for second reading. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 378: An ordinance of the City of Vernon granting a franchise to the Atchison. Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad for four spur tracks across East 49th Street was read for~~bond reading. Mowed by Leonis, seconded by Durb.in, that Ord inance No. 378 be passed for second reading. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 378: Ordinabce No. 378 was read in full for third and final reading. Mowed by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that ordinance No. 378 be passed for third and final reading. Communication from the Los Angeles Paving Company requesting additional time for the completion of the improvement of Pacific Boulevard. was read. Communication from the Atlas Mixed Mortar Company requesting permission to erect buildings to carryon a building material business on the property now used by them in excavating for sand.. Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the communication be filed and the City Clerk instructed to notify them that they must file an application in the regular manner. :Motion carried. Schon for permission to operat~ a sand bunker on Lots 6 and 7, .Tohn R. Taylor Tract, was read. liToved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that same be filed and the City Engineer instructed to take the matter a~ excavating for sand in the river bed up with the Los Angeles Flood Control and ascertain their attitude in reference to such eJccavations. Uotion carried. A communication from .Toe Chutuk requesting an extension of time on East 26th street sewer contract was read. Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the time for the completion of said work be extended twenty days. Motion carried. A cormnunication from Joe Chutuk requesting an extension of time on the northeast sewer district contract was read. Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that an extension of twenty days be granted. ORDINAlICE NO. 376: An ordinance repealing ordinances Nos. 370 and 371vla-s- read in full for second reading. Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that Ordinance No. 376 be passed for second reading. Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the City Clerk be instructed to notify the 1rushet Audit Company that the work of their company is auditing the books of the City Hall was very unsatisfactory and the bookkeeping system to be insta.lled ,in the water department of the City of Vernon has been neglected and the time for the completion of sarne has been unnecessarily prolonged and if they cannot complete the installation of same by Jvra.rch 22, 1926 the City Clerk will be compelled to secure another firm of /' auditors to do so. Motion carried. At this time Mr. Leonis reported for the Fire Com- mission that they had employed Joseph Artell as assistant fire chief at a salary of ~i200.00 per month and Fred Shutzback as a fire truck driver at a salary 'of $185.00 per month. ./ Moved by Durbin, sec,onded by Leonis, that the action of the fire COllllilission in employing the said men at the salary stated be approved. }.Iotion carried. All the foregoing applications having the approval of the City Engineer, it was :Moved by Leonisl seconded by Durbin, that the applications be filed and permits granted. Motion carried. The foll.owirJJg demands were made: On Water Bond Fund No. 2 - $2743.04 and on the General Fund - $5428.65. . Moved by Leonisl seconded by Durbinl that the demands be approved and warrants drawn on the respective funds. Motion carried.
