lUNUTES OF A REGULAR MillETING OF THE BOARD OF
TRUSTEES, OF TI-IB.: CITY OF VERlmN, :HELD OU THE
5th DAY OF APRIL, 1926, AT THE CITY HALL,
VERNON, CALIFORNIA.
The meeting was called to order by the President,
J. J. Furlong, at eight o'clock P.M.
The trustees pres.ent ,"vere: Leonis, Durbin and
Furlong.
The trustees absent were: Kniffin and Lewy.
The minutes of the meetings af March 22nd and 23rd
were read..
Moved by Leonis, seconded by Dlll"bin, that the minutes
of March 22nd and 23rd. be approved.. Motion carried.
The Clerk advised the Board tha.t this was the time
and place fixed pursuant to statute and notice given for the hear-
ing in the matter of the assessment for the improvement of Santa
Fe Avenue, as contemplated by Resolution Uo. 371, adopted on the .
2nd day of June, 1925. The Clerk also informed the Board that
affidavi ts of the posting and publication o.f the Notice of Filing
Assessment were on file in his office and that no written appeals
or ob.jections had been filed in his office prior to the day set
for the hearing.
The President of the Board asked if there were any
interested persons present desiring to be heard in the matter and
no one responded.
Trustee Durbin moved that the said hearing be con-
tinued to ei&it O'clock P. M. of Monday the 19th day of April,
1926, which motion, seconded by Trustee Leonis, was carried by
the following vote, to-wit:

Application of Richard J. Glass, et al, for permiss-
ion to carry on a box lunch business in the City of Vernon was read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, tha.t the applica-
tion be referred to the City Attorney and the Welfare Committee.
Moti on carried.
Communication from Joe Chutuk, requesting extension
of time on completion of Alameda Street, East 25th Streetj East
37th Street and East 38th street sewers for 30 days~ was read.
Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the exten-
tion for the said 30 days be granted. Motion carried.
Communication from Joe Chutuk requesting an extension
of 30 days for the completion of the East 26th street sewer was
read.
Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the communca-
tion be filed and extension of 30 days granted. Motion carried.

Application by Warman Electric Foundry Company for a
two inch meter service for water was read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that same be
referred to the City Engineer for report. Motion carried.
Communication ~rom the Reilly Rubber Company can-
plaining of condition o~ East 56th street between the Alley and
Santa Fe Avenue was read.
Moved by Leonis, seconded b1J Durbin, that same be
referred to the City Engineer for report. Motion carried.
Conununication from Charles O. Scheider quoting price
for the painting of poles on which fire alarm boxes are fastened
and the painting of fire hydrants was read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that same be
referred to the City Engineer for report. Motion carried.

Application of Baldwin a.nd Schon for permission to
move a small bunker on Lots 14 & 15 of the John R. T~lor Tract,
was read.
Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that same be
referred to the Engineer. Motion carried.
Communication from the County Sanitation District
requesting a. certificate of annexa.tion elections, was read.
!loved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the City
Clerk be requested to comply with said request. Motion carried.
Report of the State Board of Health was rea.d.

be filed. Motion carried.
Report of H. H. Isaacs, Refinery Inspector, was rea.d.
Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the report
be filed. Motion carried.
Application of Cowan Show Case & Fixture Company for an
8" fire connection was read.

referred to the City Engin.eer. :Motion carried.
Application of the General Petroleum Corporation for
pipe line franchise, being Ordinance No. 379 was read in full
for second reading.
Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that Ordinance
:Uo. 379 be passed for second reading. Mot ion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 379:- Ordinance No. 379wa.s read in full for third
and final reading.
Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that Ordinance No.
37g be a.dopted. Motion carried by the foll~wing vote:

Report of the Police Department was read.
Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the report
be fIled and the City Clerk instructed to instal a window, as
requested. Motion carried.
APPLICATION NO. 800: An application of the Southern California
Telephone Company fot an anchor on the south side of Vernon Avenue,
west of Santa Fe Avenue was read.
APPLICATION NO. 819: An application of Union Pacific Company
for the construction of sewer at mast 26th street and Downey
Road was read.
APPLICATION NO. 820: An application of General Petroleum Corp.,
for the construction of a pump house was read.
APPLICATION NO. 821: An application of General Petroleum Corp.,
for the construction of a boiler house, was read.
APPLICATION NO. 822: An application of Bradstreet-Miller for
a store building was read.
APP~~9A~ION NO. 823: An application of "An Brass Foundry for con-
strudtion of warehouse was read.
APPLICATION NO. 824: An application of Blue Bird Furniture Co.,
for the construction of an incinerator was read.
APPLICATI.Olif NO. 825: An applicatio.n of Vernon Fixture & Cabinet
Company for the construction of an incinerator was read.
APPLICATION NO. 826: An application of Axelson Machine Company
for construction of an office and store house was read.
APPLICATION NO. 82'8: An application of "Tarman Steel Casting
Company for the construction of an addition to their factor,r was
read. .
APPLICATION NO. 830: An application of the Southern California
Gas Co., to repair'service at north-east corner of 57th and Santa
Fe Avenue was read.
All the foregoing applications having the approval of
the City Engineer, it was

tions be filed and permits granted. Motion carried.
~PLICATION NO. 831: An appliclltion of the Southern California.
Ga.s Co., to lay main at Topeka and Santa Fe Avenue was read.
APPLI.Q~TIQ..RJ:ro. _832: An application of ~he Southern California
Telephone Co., to place 15 feet of 3 inch sewer tile on north-
east side of 49th and Santa Fe Avenue to serve Pacific Tank &
Pipe Co. was read.
Both the foregoing applications having the approval
of the City Engineer, it was

At this time Trustee Leonis reported that the Fire
Commission had engaged Frank H. Donnel1y for the Fire Department
at a. salary of $150.00 per month.

appointment of Frank H. Donnelly be approved.' Motion carried.
Demands were made on Yvater Bond Fund /I 2. in the sum
of $13,731.97 and on the General Fund of $gQ35.64.
