lfIN'UTES OF A REGULAR mETING OF THE BOARD OF
TRUSTDS OF THE CITY OF VERNON HELD ON TEE
19th DAY_OF APRIL, 1926, AT THE CITY HALL,
4305 SAN1.'.A. FE AVENUE, VERNON. CALIFORNIA.
The meeting was called to order by the President,
J. J. Furlong, at eight o'clock P.M. .
The trustees present were: Leonis, Durbin, Levy
and Furlong.
The trustees absent were: Mr. Knif:fin.
The minutes of l~rch 23rd, April 5th and April 12th
were read.
:Moved by Durbin, seco1i1ded by Leonis, that the minutes
be approved as read. :Motico carried.
At this time the city Clerk annouaced that this was
the time and place for the Board of Trustees to canvass the
returns of the general electicm held in the City of Vernon on
the 12th day of April, 1926.
Moved by Leonis. seconded by Durbin, that the Board
of Trustees proceed to canvass the votes. 14totion carried..
The Board then canvassed the returns of said electiom
and the results showed that the votes cast at said election were
as follows:
For Trustee - Full term:
J. B. Leonis - - 56
P. J. Durbin - - 52
J. W. Kniffin- - 55

At this time Resolution No. 43'2', a resolution declarimg
the results of said general municipal elaction was read.
Moved by DurbiR, seconded by Leonis, that Resolution
No. 437 be adopted and a full copy of said resolutiQn copied into
the Minutes. Motion carried.

A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF
THE CITY OF VERNON DECLARING THE RESULTS
OF A REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD Olf
THE 12th DAY OF APRIL, 1926.
WHEREAS. a general munie:ipal election was held in
the City of Vernon, state of California. on Monda1ii the
12th d$y of April, 1926, for the purpose of electing a City
Treasurer and three members of the Board of Trustees; and
WHEREAS, it appears that said election was held and
conducted in accordance with the general laws of the State of
California. so far as the same were applica.ble; and that
the Board of Trustees gave such notice of election as pre-
scribed by law a.nd appointed a. board of election. fixed their
compensation and established an election precinct and polling

place and that said election was held and conducted and the votes
east thereat were received and canvassed and the returns thereon
made in the time, form. and manner as required by law; and
WHERE.AS. the Board of Trustees did meet on this, the
19th day of April. 1926. being the Monday next succeeding the date
of said general municipal electien. said date being a regular
meeting of the Board of Trustees. and at said meeting the said
Board canvassed the votes cast at said general muaicipal electien
and whereupon it was found that the votes cast at said election
in the cODSolidated election precinct established therefor were
as followS:

named received a majority of all the wotEts cast thereat for the
respective. offices ment iQued; now therefore
IT IS HEmmY RESOLVED. determined and declared by
the Board of Trustees of the Oi ty of Vernon that at a general
municipal election held in said city on the 12th day of April.
1926. the persons elected to the respective: offices for the
terms stated and until their successors are duly elected and
qualified are as follows:
J. B. Leonie, as Trustees of the City of Vernon for
the full term of four years;
P. J. Durbin. as Trustee for the City of Vernon for
the full term of four years;
J. W. Kniffin. as Trustee of the City of Vernon for
the full term of four years;
F. G. French. as City Treasurer of the City of Verno~
for an unexpired term of two years;
The City Treasurer, before entering upon his duties
as Treasurer of said city. ~ha11 execute a bond to the City of
Vernon in a sum &s required by resolution or ordinance.. which
bond sb.a.ll. be approved by the Board of Trustees amd fi1.ed with
the Clerk. All newly elected officers, before entering upon
the duties of the office to which they have been elected, 'shall
take and subscribe to the constitutional oath of office and fi1.e
the same with the clerk.
The City Clerk is hereby dIirected to certify to the
passage of this resolution and thereupon the same shall be in
fu11 force and effect.

do certify that the foregoing resolution was duly adopted by
the Boa.rd of Trustee.s of the City of Vernon a.nd signed by the
President. of said Board at a regular meeting thereof held on
the 19th day of April, 1926. by the following vote:

At thi.s time the City Clerk advised the Board of Trustees
that this was the time and place for the continued hearing in the
matter of the assessment for the improvement of Santa Fe Avenue,
as contemplated in Resolution 07: Intention No. 3'1, adopted on
the 19th day of October, 1925. The President of the Board asked
if there were any interested persons present desiring to be heard
in the matter and no one responded. A11 interested persons having
been giyen full. opportunity to show cause why said assessment llhouJd
not be confirmed. all objectioms presented having been heard and
fully cOlinlidered and the Board having been satisfied with the
correctness of the assessment, thereupon Trustee Durbin moved that
sa.id assessment be confirmed a.nd approved, which motion, sec:onded by
Trustee Levy, was carried ~ the following vote, to-wit:

Cormmmication from the L. A. Paving Company requesting
an extension of time for the completion of the work on Pacific
Boulevard was read.
Moved by Leonis, secomd.ed by Durbin, that the L. A.
Paving Company be granted an extension of time of sixty days.
Motion carried..
Communication from the L. A. Railway Company in reference
to changing the p~aee where their bus would stop on Santa Fe
Avenue was read.
Moved by Leonis. seconded by Levy" that the request be
granted a.s asked for. Motion carried.
ApplicatiGn by the Re~iance Rock & Gravel Co. for a
four inch water connecticn was read.
Moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy. that the matter be
referred to the Water Department. Motion carried.
Report of the Railroad Commission on spur track across
Santa Fe AV'enue was read.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy. tha.t the report be
filed. Motion carried.

Company for a building permit was read.
Moved by Leonie, seconded by Durbin, that the application
be filed and permit granted provided that upon inspection by the
City Engin~er it is found that the property has sewer connection.
Motion carried.
Report of the Police Depa.rtment was read.
Moved by Levy, sec~nded by Leonis. that the same be
APPLICATION NO. 842: An application of the Associated Oil Company
for a building permit to build a garage building was read.
APPLICATION NO. 845: An application for a building permit by the
Axelson Machi.e Company for the construction of an office buildiDg
was read.
Both the foregoing app~ications having the approval of
the City Engineer it was
Moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy. that the applications
be filed and permits granted. Motion carried.
Communica.tion from the L. A. By-PrOducts Company request
ing permisSion to haul waste material.- to their property at Ba.ndini
through the pUblic streets o:t Vernon was read.
Moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the communi-
cation be referred to the Police Depa.rtment for investigation and
report to the Board. Motion carried.
At thie time the City Clerk requested. the Board to
transfer the sum ~ Twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000.00)
:from the Fire Alarm Bond Fund in the Hellman Cormnercia.l. Trust
& S8.vings Bank of Los Angeles to the First National Bank o~
Vernon, he reciting that this is necessary to carry om the will
of the Board in paying for the fire alarm. system.
Moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, tha.t the sum of'
$25,000.00 from the Fire Alarm Bond Fund oe tra.nsferred from the
Hell.ma.n Cormnercial Trust & SaVings Bank of Los Angeles to the
First Na.tional Bank of Vernom. Motion carried.
Moved by Leonis, seconded Cy Durbin, tha.t the City
Engineer request Mr. REGAN, County E~i1'Leer of the Flood Control.
to define the width of the channel of the Los Angeles River west
of' Downey Road a.nd the 26th Street Bridge, as there were applica-
tions filed with the Boa.rd of Trustees for sand excaVJations a.nd.
it wa.s necessary to have the width of the channel defined. Motion
carried.
