MINUTES OF THE/REGULAR :MEET ING OF THE BOARD
OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF VERNON HELD ON THE
20th DAY OF JULY. 19-26. AT THE CITY HALL OF TEE
CITY OF VERNON. 4305 SANTA FE A'T']NUE, VERNON,
CALIFORNIA.
The meeting was called to' order by the President,
J. J. Furlong. a.t 8 e~cleck P.M.
The trustees present were: Leenis. Durbin
and Furleng.
The trustees absent were:: Kniffin and Levy.
The minutes ef the meetings ef June 7 and June 21 v
1926, were read.
It wa.s meved by Leenis andsecended by Durbin
that the minutes be approved as read. Motien carried..
At this time the City Engineer presented a. dia-
gram ef the assessment district fer the imprevement ef
Halabird Avenue. as centemplated in Resolutien of Intentien
NO'. 424.
It was meved by Durbin a.nd secended by Leanis
that said diagram be appraved. Matian carried.
The City Clerk then advised the Beard that this
\"las the time and place fix.ed pursuant to' statute and netice
given far the hearing of the matter of the a.ssessment fer
the imprevement of Hela'bird Ave, as cantemplated by Reso-
lut ion af Intention NO'. 424, adopted the first day ef
February, 1926. The Clerk also informed the Beard that
affidavits af the posting and publicatien ef the Natice
ef Filing Assessment were an file in his affice and that
no written appeals or ebjectiens had been filed in his
effice prior to' the day set for hearing~ The President
of the Baard. then aslced if there were a.ny interested per-
sens present desiring to' be heard in the matter and nO'
ane re.sponded.. All. interested persons having been given
full 0pportunity to' shew cause why the said assessment
shauld net be canfirmed, all ebjectiens presented having
been heard and fully censidered,. and the Beard having been
satisfied with the correatness ef the assessment, thereupen
Trustee Durbin moved that the assessment be cenfirmed and
appreved, which metien. seconded by Trustee Leenis, was
carried by the following vote:
Ayes:
Leenis, Durbin and Furleng..
Nees:
None.
Absent:. Kniffin and Levy.

East 49th Stree.t, as contemplated in Reselutien of Intentien
NO'.. 401.
It was meved by Durbin and secended by Leenis that
said diagram be appreved. Metien carried.

July 20, 1926.
The City Clerk then advised the Board that this
was the time and place fixed pursuant to statute and notice
given for the hearing of the matter of the assessment for
the improvement of East 49th Street, as contempla.ted by
Resolution of Intention No. 401, adopted the 16th d.ay of
November, 1925. The Clerk also informed the Board that
affidavits of the posting and publication of the Notice
of Filing Assessment were on file in his office and that
no \'!r:'itten appeals or obj ections had been filed in his
office prior to the day set for hearing. The Pre,si.dent
of the Board then a,sked if there were any interested per-
sons present desiring to be heard in the matter and no
one responded. All interested persons having been given
full opportunity to show cause why the said assessment
should not be confirmed, all objections presented having
been heard a.nd fully considered, and the Board having been
sa.tisfied with t he correctness of the assessment, thereupon
Trustee Durbin. moved that the assessment be confirmed and
approved, which motion, seconded by Trustee Leonis, was
carried by the following vote:

Noes: None.
Absent: Kniffin and Levy.
ORDINANCE NO. 386~ An Ordinance for the vacation of an
unna.me.d street in Huntington Park Extension No.1, and
described in sa.id Ordinance, was read for first reading.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis
that Ordinance No. 386 be passed for first reading.
Motion carried.
An agreement. submitted by the Southern Calif-
ornia Edison Company, entitled "Joint Pole Agreement- be-
tween the City of Vernon and the Southern California Edison
Company,was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that
the -Joint Pole Agreementtt be accepted and the chairman
of the Board and City Clerk be instructed to execute the
same. Motion carried.
An agreeme.nt, submitted by the Southern Pacific
Company in regard to the installation of Fire and Police
alarms under their tracks at 52nd Street, 55th street and
57th Street, was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that
the same be filed. Motion carried..
An agreement, submitted by the Union Pacific
Company in regard to the maintenance by the City of Vernon
of the water main under their tracks, wa.s read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin
that the cgreement be approved and that the Chairman of the
Board and the Secretary be authorized to execute the same.
Motion carried.
An agreement, submitted by the Department of \'ifater
a.nd Power of the City of Los Angeles, in regard to an
electric power line on the north side of 25th Street, wa.s
rea.d.

It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis
that the same be referred to the meeting of the whole
Board. Motion carried.
An agreement, submitted by the Department of Water
and Power of the City of Los Angeles, in regard to the
construction. opera.tion and maintenance of a power trans-
mission line over portions of East 26th street. 48th Street,
Fruitl.and and Slauson Avenues., wa.s read.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonis
that the same be referred to the meeting of the whole
Board. Motion carried~
ORDINANCE NO. 385:- An Ordinance granting a franchise to
the Crescent Refining Company for an oil pipe line on
East 26th Street, was read for second reading.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded ~ Durbin that
the same be la.id over for second reading at the next regu-
lar meeting of the Board. Motion carried.
An application from George A. Abajian for a license
to haul rubbish within the City of Vernon was rea.d.
It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Leonie
that the same be filed. lvIotion c'arried.
The report of the Police Department was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin
that the s~e be filed. Motion carried.

of the City Engineer, were read:
APPLICATION No. 910:- Pioneer Paper Company for sewer con-
nection on East 55th Street al'1d Alameda..
APPLICATION No. 911:- Of Bradstreet Miller for sewer con-
neCltione in Ea.st 57th Street.
APPLICATION No. 912: Of American Ca.n Co. for building permit.
APPLICATION No. 914: Of Southern California Gas Company
for excava.tion permit to lay service a.t 2615 Santa Fe Ave.
APPLICATION No. 915:- Of L.A. Paving Co. to break curb a.t
2613 Santa. Fe Avenue.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Durbin that
the applications be filed and permits granted. Motion carried
